Getting there
Somewhat walkable
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
The room is clean and tidy. The price of the room is affordable and reasonable. The people there are very helpful and friendly. What I like the most is the decoration of the ship in front of the resort because it is unique and you could take some pictures as memory! The dinner is barbecue and it is well prepared but I prefer hand on to make it by myself. It is a good place to have a short trip there!

I stayed in Redang Bay recently, 4 of us. Upon arrival at Shahbandar jetty, the jetty staff told me to pay for the Marine Park Ticket RM5 per pax. I felt strange because I have already made full payment. Upon calling to Redang Bay office, the staff apologized saying that the Marine Park Ticket were left in their office. I was very angry because I have called them 1 day before arrival to get the pick up driver name and ensure everything is in order. So they told me to pay for the Marine Park Ticket first and to get refund upon check-in. Lucky they promise to give me the refund immediately. It seems that we need to bring along the Marine Park Ticket before get into the ferry. I can't understand why the staff overlook this matter.
This is not the first time the resort made mistake. Earlier they argued on the room rate after I made full payment, telling me they made wrong calculation etc. I refuse to pay a cent because I have confirmed the room rate via email several times.
Room cleanliness is average. However, the rooms ( we booked two rooms ) have ants crawling on the bed & pillow. My friend have sensitive skin until her right eye got itchiness which we suspect caused by ants bites. So my friend made a complaint upon check-out and a staff was sent to check it.
Upon check out at 930am, we were told to take the 1030am boat. However we waited till 11.45am to get into the boat. This was because the resort has a group of 300++ guests checking in at the same time. As a result, all the staff were busy with room check-in for new guests and we were left at the reception area waiting to get into the boat. I guess the resort does not have enough manpower to handle a big group of guests. By 11am, still nobody came to tell us where is the boat. I made a complaint that we should be served some snacks or refreshment while waiting for the boat. We all took breakfast around 730am. Everyone was already hungry & frustrated as we did not know why there's a delay. At the end, they gave us a few pieces of toast for 'compensation'.
After we get into the boat ( over crowded ones ), we were told to transfer the the public ferry. Again, there's no proper arrangement as everyone was rushing to get into the ferry. Furthermore, there were guests jump queue. This was really annoying. The ferry was speeding like crazy despite of strong wave. My friends all felt uncomfortable as the whole journey was like ferry 'jumping' on the sea. I did not feel safe at all.
The only good thing about the resort is the Snorkeling staff. The were really helpful and guided us during the snorkeling trip to explore the beauty of underwater world. It was an amazing experience.
Pulau Redang is a wonderful place to visit. However,my vacation was not that good due to unfavourable experience with the resort.

Redang Islands was not part of our plan until two weeks before the trip. We stumbled upon a tour agency from Singapore, offering tour package to Redang Islands at a desirable price. We have set a maximum of $300 for a short getaway trip; hence we went ahead with the package straight away.
We went ahead with Redang Bay Resort that cost $249 per pax. It was a 9 hour bus trip to Shah Bandar Jetty in Terengganu. We set off at 9.30pm from Golden Mile Tower, via the second link. The bus then stop at Yong Peng for a 30 minutes break before resuming the long journey. We safely arrived Shah Bandar Jetty around 6 in the morning.
Shops and eateries were all close during that timing. So, we wondered around and waited for the 9am ferry. A cheerful staff from the Redang Bay Resort greeted us at the ferry terminal to ensure that we were fully informed of the ferry timing. We boarded the Sejahtera Ferry, which travelled at a very slow speed, resulting in a very lengthy 2 hours of journey to Redang Islands.
We were given a room for 3 pax right across their check-in counter, actually a pretty good location to get to their wifi, convenience shop, souvenir shop, dining area and nearer to the beach! However, the room that was given to us were without a television set and basic toiletries. Towels were given though. Room was equipped with an air-conditioner, hot shower and 2 singles and 1 queen beds.
All their foods were served in buffet style, though with not much of varieties. However, rest assured that it will keep you full throughout your stay!
They were pretty tons of fun and fulfilling activities that we did like snorkelling at the Marine Park nearby, worth 2 hours of tiring jungle trekking accompanied by one of their sociable staff, beach football with the locals and last but not least, a therapeutic swim at their crystal blue sea. Snorkelling equipments like safety jackets and power mask can be loan at an affordable price; do keep in mind the deposit, which is refundable.
Night life wise, Redang Islands has several bars with live band performances for those who can’t and do not want to sleep. There were a few eateries too that closes at midnights to satisfy your hunger. A great time to have sociable activities with friends and families.
The staffs at the resort were pretty much outstanding. They were friendly and easy-going. One of whom, Benjamin which came all the way from Sarawak, who guided us during the jungle trekking.

Girls.. please be careful of this resort! A group of 12 of us stayed here in one of the dorm room and we had a VERY BAD experience. The bathroom is so dodgy since it is not inside our bedroom. There are only 2 shower rooms in the main hall. And on the 2nd day we stayed there, we caught a camera inside the bathroom while showering!!!!!!!! We were shocked and immediately logded a complain at the front desk. The lady did not treat the case as serious and so we lodged a police report. It has been a police case now, and it basically ruined the whole trip! So I suggest you girls DO NOT stay at this place. It is so not worth it..the service is terrible, food sucks (feel like ure in a school canteen) and it is way too crowded...u better stay somewhere else like Berjaya, Coral redang or Mutiara redang..which is much much better.

One should avoid this resort at all times if you are looking for a good experience on a wonderful Malaysian East Coast Island;there are countless other resorts, hotels or villas out there.
Rooms here, though acceptably good air conditioning, are largely unclean to which even bed linens had blood and brownish stains on them. Moreover, there's an inexplainable amount of flies and mosquitoes, luckily not dengue everywhere.
Food is generally not the recipe for a proper holiday of this range, more suitable for street side food. In fact, even random hawkers in Kuala Lumpur make far better food. The only good food here are the buns they bake for tea; that's the good part.
Staff attitude shows a vast gap. Some staff seem genuinely well mannered; plus point. However, majority of staff have terribly arrogant attitude to the point of sounding angry and annoyed at the question for directions of a newly arrived visitor. Perhaps some hospitality training course would do.
Money seems to be the only thing that goes on the mind of people who run this place. Wine corkage goes up to 50MYR, while even more established and furnished ones on the island cost only approx 15MYR. Ridiculous! Rental for cups(yes, empty cups that you have to wash on your own) costs 10MYR, that's also the case if it's an emergency for medication.
There are no preparations here for emergencies as well. My relative had a bad case of fever and required immediate medication and extraction. Not only they did not have medication on standby; not even cold medicine found in standard first aid kits, they did not have equipments for emergency extraction as well.

Redang is the ultimate paradise island. Redang Bay provides all inclusive package with ferry transfer, all meals and 3 snorkeling trips. The resort is very well maintained and the beach in front of it is pristine. The house reef just off the beach is very rich and good enough for snorkeling for hours. Food is mostly to suite Malaysian palate, but you would find something to gorge on. I never went hungry. Wifi is available only in the reception area, but who bothers when you are in paradise. The resort also has a convenience store, which was very popular with guests of surrounding resorts. They provide snorkeling mask and life jacket for a onetime fee of MYR 25. Underwater cameras can also be hired for the day for MYR 30 onwards. Their dive shop is also well maintained and have lots of gear for you to hire. Other than the food in the package there is also a bar on the beach and a small restaurant in this resort. Must visit. They also provide good transport options to the airport and resting place at their office in China Town of Kuala Terengganu. What i didnt like was that they made us walk half a kilometer through afternoon sun on a hilly road for a snorkelling trip. Later when the guests complained they arranged for the pickup from the adjacent beach.

Hotel seems to think that thumping disco music on the beach from 5:30p, to midnight is the way to draw in tourists. They are so wrong. For Palau Redang this cannot be further from the truth. We walked along the beach towards the Laguna Hotel and the bass was so loud it could be easily heard across the entire beach including indoors - it registered 60 to 70 decibels (on an iPhone app) indoors and 80 to 90 decibels outside at a friends place in the Laguna Resort with the background late at night being something like only 50 decibels. It's madness to have such a heavy sound system pumping out such volume in an otherwise quiet resort. I'm surprised the other hotels haven't had complaints and 'had words' Avoid this place and hopefully they will get the message soon.

Some staffs are friedly and helpful espeacially the front desk, however there is a gaping difference for the others.. Lackadaisikal attitude, arrogant, do not care for the feelings of their guest. More hospitality training should be provided? Food was average, not much variety.
