Detailed Reviews
This auberge is a short drive from Merzouga itself, but is right on the dunes. It was a quieter part of the dunes, with less quad bikes and human traffic. We enjoyed strolling out for sunset straight onto the sand.
The auberge itself has a beautiful pool and nice communal areas with a restaurant and a tented area/campfire for after dinner. We enjoyed the food.
We stayed one night in a room in the old courtyard which was small and the shower did not drain properly, and then on our second stay we were placed in the newer courtyard. The room there was spacious, brighter and had a lovely outside area with table and chairs. I would advise asking for one of the newer rooms if possible.
There were some large groups staying there during our stay. It meant the food on the buffet breakfast often disappeared quickly, but they kept bringing out more.
I found the staff to be helpful and accommodating.

We stayed for half our time in the hotel and the other half in the desert camp - both of which I would highly recommend. The hotel is beautiful and extremely comfortable. Dinner at night was very fun with delicious food and a lively, cozy atmosphere in the dining room with all of the other guests (remember to BYOB!) It was not swimming weather when we were visiting but the pool is a great spot to relax, with gorgeous views of the dunes. The desert camp is also very comfortable (glamping much more than camping) has a similar dining room situation but in a tent rather than the main hotel compound. The dunes are just steps away from both, and we would highly recommend taking advantage of every opportunity to explore them including the camel rides, sunrise hikes, and your own daytime treks. Mustapha was a great host and very helpful in all of the planning leading up to the trip.

This is an interesting and unique hotel, with fantastic staff and good food at Dunes d'Erg Chebbi (at the edge of the sand dunes in the middle of nowhere - 39 kms from town).
Do not expect TV or WiFi, or you will be disappointed. This is a unique hotel with red decor, and large and irregularly shaped rooms.
The staff is friendly and fantastic. The manager, who was leaving when we met accidentally outside the hotel door, immediately brought us to the front desk and then our room, before he departed for the day. We were enjoying a bottle of wine (which we had brought from town) at a patio outside of our room, when a staff member spotted us and rushed over with complimentary appetizers.
The dinner and breakfast buffets were a little touristy, but we did not leave hungry.

We added a stay at the campsite as a part of our Exoticca tour. What an experience! The 4x4 ride out to camp and the the camel ride at sunset in the Sahara was surreal. The food was very delicious that evening. The rooms were beautifully decorated and there is a shower in the bathroom. Air conditioner worked fantastic. No coffee or water in rooms but you do get a complimentary 591 ml bottle of water when you arrive. Unfortunately no bonfire that night since the wind picked up but they moved the musicians into the banquet tent.

We stayed in the tented camp not the hotel. As it was August and the temperature was extremely high we chose the option with A/C and I'm glad we did. Unfortunately around midnight my sister - in -law was stung ( bitten ) by a scorpion and was in great pain. We contacted the nearby hotel and they sent a car which took her to the nearest hospital which is 50 kms, away. She was given an antidote but was in pain for the following 24 hours.
Of course, we do not blame the camp in any way ( the scorpion was in home territory) but I mention this because the camp staff were magnificent.
We had an excellent evening meal and breakfast.
I want to say thank you to the young man who was the "night watchman" in the camp.

A delightful welcome from the staff all dressed in colourful attire, with lovely smiles offering a choice of drinks and finger food.
We were then taken for a camel ride over the dunes to watch the sun setting. An amazing experience!
Thereafter, we enjoyed dinner of freshly prepared cooked food and salads with plenty of vegetarian choices.
The evening sitting around the fire listening to local music brought the day to a pleasant end.
We were impressed with quality and cleanliness of our large luxury tent. The heating kept us warm and comfortable throughout the night.
The next morning, a walk over the dunes to watch the sun rise set the day off to a good start.
I would definitely return to this hotel.

Absolutely lovely experience at this hotel.
PROS: Buffet choices were plentyful, food was tasty, service was fast and friendly and room was clean.
CONS: No water bottles in room, therefore had to bring our own. Shower was modern but provided absolutely zero hot water, took the fastest and most unplesant shower in my lifetime during my stay. Those two issues weren't considerable enough to affect my impression of this hotel, I still highly recommend.

The camp was nice but it was not as advertised. The ad says there is a pool but there is not, and there is no wifi. The dinner was amazing and the entertainment was nice with the communal fire. You could walk the sand dunes, and they also offered desert camel rides. It would have been a great place to see sunset/sunrise but unfortunately both were cloudy and windy for our stay. This rating lost a star due to mis-advertising from no pool and no wifi.

Hotel in the dunes of Erg Chebbi scenario to take the folego of so much beauty by itself.
The facilities and hospitality of the Auberbe du Sud staff make this place even more spectacular and magical.
I was two days on a motorcycle trip for the ADV Moto Tour de Portugal, but I intend to come back more often.

What an amazing two nights we spent at the Auberge du sud campsite! It is such a special feeling waking up next to the gorgeous sand dunes of the desert. The tent was fantastic, great AC and fresh clean towels (Thank you Said :)). Special shoutout to “DJ” Khalid, Hassan “The King” and Said “The Boss” for making this an experience to remember. This is a stop that cannot be missed during your vacation in Morocco!
