We stayed at Hotel Hibiscus during a recent visit to Sri Lanka. The resort was located at a great location at Waskaduwa in Kalutara. The property featured rooms and villas with a swimming pool for adults and children. The villas had a seperate swimming pool as well. The check-in experience was decent. The rooms were a major let down, The walls were patched up and the bathroom ceiling showed signs of seepage with green spots quite prominent. The water had a sort of stink though the shower worked well and hot water was available all the while. The room had sand in the corners, the bed was not super comfortable though I would still give it a thumbs-up. The room service staff were hard working, but, well, if the walls and ceilings leak, what could they do? Another family reported a lizard in their room and their main switch tripped when they turned on the electric kettle. The electrician came down immediately and even offered to change the room, which was really great. The beach was next door, literally at stones throw distance and there were enough taps and mats to wash off sand. The breakfast spread was good, the lunch and dinner a-la-carte menu was quite decent. Plus point - EXCELLENT restaurant staff who helped adjust the meal for us. The swimming pools were really good. Major negative point - VISA cards did not work, only Mastercard did. The check-out experience was also decent. Overall, there are other resorts around, but the restaurant staff could be the only reason why I could recommend the resort to anybody. This place needs to be renovated ASAP!

I would like to sincerely thank all the staff of the hotel! I had a vacation from June 29 to July 10, 2023 and I am very happy that I came to this hotel, although there was a conflict that a young cleaner stole some money from the room! Be careful! Carry money with you! I especially wanted to recommend the young man Sami and his friend Denis! Denis is the best choice of tuk-tuk, he knows many languages and there is no problem where and when you will be taken. I highly recommend the Hibiscus Hotel and will definitely come back here, sincerely Svetlana, Moscow! Russia!

Me and my wife picked this place for a quite holiday. It was well worth the price for full board basis. We really enjoyed both the pools (special thanks to Bonny who is in charge of the pool), and the beach. We also enjoyed the view ; greenery (trees). I guess some rooms may need renovation, but ours was not bad overall. Would say slightly above average. The basis amenities were there, so we wouldn't complain. There were more pros than cons. The welcome drink was awesome. Food selection was not bad. but the food got cold fast, which I thought was odd. Its ideal if what you were mainly looking for was the beach, pool and the calm serenity.

By the way we are in Sri Lanka for the third time. Hotel is cosy and charming))) also middling, little bit old (necessary renovations in rooms - they’re morally obsolete…) The air conditioner has always worked well. The room was well cleaned. We swam in two good pools. Important we had FB - excellent meal, chicken, pork, vegetables, rice, potatoes, always many fruits papaya, sweet pineapple 🍍🍍🍍 watermelon, guava. When in hotel was little bit people so we ate like in a restaurant! The best waiter Rohitha took the order and the chef cooked for each guest separately! Bravissimo👏👏👏 crab 🦀 perfecto - molto bene 🙌 ice cream 🍨 The territory of the hotel is neat, well-groomed, with different flowers 🌺🌺🌺 Kind advice - the beach needs to clean up behind the fence… distance from the fence to the ocean 🌊 a lot of plastic, sticks, trash...sadly Big plus hotel situated seaside near Indian Ocean in 10steps 👍 high waves definitely! All staff were friendly and nice 👍 The main recommendation is to buy excursions only from Sandy +94 71 171 5900, he is honest, sincere, positive! speaks English and Russian well! He lives near hotel and reference point trees with CD 💿💿💿 I recommend excursions Ella, Bentota, Galle, Hikkaduwa. All staff were friendly and nice 👍 especially waiter Rohitha 👏👏👏 Peyumi on reception 🌺🌺🌺 Best wishes Prosperity Sincerely, M.

We stayed at here for 2 nights and while I have only given it 3 stars the service from the F&B staff was great. I can’t eat gluten or dairy and they did their best to accommodate this at all meals providing me with many alternatives. The reason for the lesser stars is for the hotel maintenance in general, parts of the hotel feels a little old, the rooms need a redecorate and a good deep clean (we had some mildew on curtains and bathroom door) but generally the room was clean. It’s hard to judge this as covid, low tourism return & economic problems in Sri Lanka have lead to I am sure funding issues and beach side hotels do also get worn easier. It’s a fine hotel for a cheap beach break or to use as a base just could be better with some care.

We went as a group to the Hibiscus Hotel for a one night stay. We all had a wonderful time and the service we received was really good, especially from the front office and restaurant staff. Rooms were clean and comfortable but looked very tired and dated. If the management could invest on refurbishing the hotel, this would be a fantastic place for group outings.
