Hanthana House is a lovely little homestay in the hillside, about 10/15mins out of the busy Kandy city. Mr Putti and his wife Suba are incredibly welcoming and friendly, and will provide you with any information you are requiring for your time not only in Kandy, but throughout Sri Lanka. Mr Puti runs his own travel agent business, and for...

We stayed at Hanthana House this week and loved it. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The owner in particular went out of his way to recommend things to do in Kandy. The bedrooms were so clean with comfortable beds. Would also definitely recommend to eat dinner there as the food was great and such good value....

Hanthana House is the perfect home stay. Pathi and his family are delightful and welcomed us to their lovely house. The bedrooms and bathroom are large and spotlessly clean. The bed is very comfortable and the shower lovely, hot and with decent pressure. Breakfast is delicious, fruit, omelletes, toast etc and always a Sri Lankan dish. Evening meals were also...

We stayed at Hanthana House for 3 nights whilst in Kandy. We booked one of the deluxe rooms which was situated on the top floor. The room was lovely, huge comfy 4 poster bed with mosquito net and a balcony that overlooked the hills. Breakfast was yummy, a mix of Sri Lankan and western. We had dinner there one night...

This place is amazing! Perfect, small, family-run guest house with EXCELLENT food! We only spent one night, but if we were staying in Kandy and the surrounding area for longer, we would definitely stay here. The owner is a tour operator so he knows tons of helpful information about everything in Sri Lanka, but he does not push his own...

Very nice family run home. It was very cosy, with the owners wife and family helping out with cooking excellent meals. They were very friendly and the wife's cooking is superb. The view is to die for and it really does feel like you are far away in the jungle. My only two critics would be 1. The bed is...

My husband and I chose Hanthana House because of the amazing reviews on this site. Please don't read this and think there's always one that has to be negative. This is an honest review based on my opinions. This place was certainly was not peace and tranquility. We were put in a room just above the kitchen which was very...

We had 3 nights in a deluxe room which was a very good size and enormous comfy bed with full-frame mossie net (didn't see any mossies anyway) and the large shared balcony - great for birdwatching. After a couple of days touring we came back for a further night, this time in a standard room, which was a lot smaller...

Hanthana House consists of two en suite double bedrooms and one en suite twin bedroom and one en suite triple room, all with generous balconies overlooking the neighbouring tea estate. The bedrooms have ceiling fans, teak furniture and polished cement floors as well as a wet room with shower, basin and WC. The newly-built spacious and light dining room also has views of the tea estate and it is open to the generous new kitchen, where cookery lessons are always available! The upstairs sitting area has a comfy sofa and armchairs as well as a piano and Wi-Fi access! An organic kitchen garden is planned which will provide most of the vegetables for meals, and various walks through tea plantations and up to local viewpoints are accessed from the front door. Hanthana House is approximately 4 km from Kandy in the Hanthana hills, an area famous for cultivating some of the first tea grown on the island and the location of the Ceylon Tea Museum. Please be aware that a homestay is neither a hotel nor a guesthouse as you live and socialise with a family in their home. Think of it as an extension of your own home, with the usual creature comforts and no-one to make your bed or clean your room on a daily basis! The real experience is the interaction with a Sri Lankan family as they go about their daily life. ... more   less
