The short review: La Loma is an amazing experience and well worth the expense and travel required to get there. The longer version: La Loma was recommended to us by a family friend several years ago. We checked on dates in 2016 but discovered that La Loma booked up quickly. Make sure to so plan well in advance, or have...

How do you write a review for such a unique experience. I've often thought that there are two types of vacationers. Tourists and travelers. This is a place for a traveler. Not only will you experience exceptional food, all locally sourced and exquisitely prepared, but you will experience people. The limited Tuesday through Saturday week allows for a true camp...

La Loma is a remarkable lodge with comfortable bungalows in the jungle. Every morning we woke up looking at monkeys and sloths in the trees, drinking caffe with muffins that were brought to us early in the morning. Henry and Magret have greated a wonderful relaxing place with many small lovely details. The lunches and dinnerd were very good and...

My wife and i just returned from a four night stay at La Loma. To be honest I was a little worried about not having AC in such a hot environment. While it was hot the first day we aclimated quickly and i slept better here than at home. The Rancho had the most amazing view and was very well...

We visited to do the chocolate tour and to have lunch. The host and guide were enthusiastic and informative. We learned so much about the land, local history, the flora and fauna and chocolate making. The grand finale was a delicious lunch lovingly prepared and present with local ingredients. We saw a sloth and her baby, red frogs as well...

We went for the tour of the farm and lunch. From the first moment, you are aware of how special the farm is. Everyone there, from Henry and Margaret to the entire staff, is dedicated to a sustainable and learning environment, respectful of the place, the people, and especially everything that grows. The tour is well worth the time and...

We stayed for two nights at la Loma Jungle Lodge and loved the experience. We had one of the hillside cabins with a spectacular view of the jungle and the water. The bed was comfortable and the hammocks in the room were great for relaxing and taking in the view. Our shower had a perfect water temperature and good pressure....

We stayed at La Loma for 2 nights in mid March. My wife and I wished we had reserved 4 nights after the first day there, it was that good. What a magical place and people who run it. We reserved a cabin on the hill, which has a nice river gravel path leading to the main lodge and bay. The...

I have been to Panama many times, and have taken several trips to Bocas del Toro before, but never have I found such a beautiful, magical, peaceful place. Our cabin (#3) was a few minute hike into the jungle canopy, and worth every step. The room is rustic and luxurious at the same time. The room can sleep a family...

Wow. Everything about this operation is top notch and wonderfully well conceived. The open air cabins are spacious and comfortable. Having coffee and muffins brought to our doorstep each morning was a real treat. But it is the people of La Loma that make it such a treasure. Henry and Margaret are truly lovely. They have been refining their approach...

“It is the jungle. The bugs could be annoying so you had to make sure to stay on top of ensuring the mosquito coils were burning. Plus there are monkeys, sloths, and lots of birds around. I loved the sounds of the jungle which rang out, in one way or another, all day and night. I say this in order to point out, it is never quiet. La Loma is alive 24/7. La Loma suggested bringing extra money for activities and drinks. I don’t drink but everybody raved about the ever-changing nightly rum based cocktail that was on each night tap. I stuck with kombucha, tea and coffee which were all locally sourced in not made on premises. The final bar bill did not add up to much and the prices were all reasonable. Most of our extra cash went to ‘activities’ which are extra in addition to the cost of room and board. Because the actual number of things you can do at the lodge are limited, it made sense for us to head off the island for different excursions. The items we tackled were pretty standard for what other families there did... *Snorkeling: Lots of fish, nice water, worked out great for several families at the same time. *Trip to Zapatillas Beach: Longer boat ride out to and island with palms, waves, beach and protected cove. Was good way to get to beach and escape the crowds. *Bat cave hike: Interesting but my youngest child hated it. Definitely a physical experience that requires some nimble bouldering and wading through actual bat caves. Not for the claustrophobic, arachnophobic, or mysophobic. *Fishing: We didn’t have a great day but still caught a few fish. It was all handline stuff provided by lodge’s guide. This was a good two hour excursion for our youngest child. *Farm Tour: Interesting background on cacao and how it is grown. Cool demo with beans at the end. Good for older kids and adults. Each of the activities is extra. At the end of the trip the bar bill, activities, and souvenirs totaled up to another $500 for a family of four. Cash was required at the end to settle up but La Loma also takes Venmo, and there is an ATM in Bocas. I went with the Venmo option (I was using one of the ATT Daily Passport phone plana and was able to get connectivity in our cabin, but not in the lodge.) ”
