We arrived at Dewa Mandawa in the late morning and were immediately welcomed by Durga Singh the proprietor and scion of the family whose historic home this is. Over a cup of tea in his lounge he explained everything we needed to know about the hotel, its history and much of what was worth seeing or doing currently in Jaipur...

I immediately fell in love with this haveli, Mr Singh, and all the team who work there. The building is beautiful, and set in peaceful gardens, a true oasis. Mr Singh and his team are absolutely wonderful and just effortlessly bring everyone together. We had 2 wonderful, delicious evenings there, and wish we could stay longer. On a boring practical...

I cannot stress what a gem this lovely old house is, or the generous hospitality from the gracious owner. He is much in evidence overseeing every detail. The open courtyard garden is the setting for meals served on colourful tables and chairs. The food is delicious and our room was beautiful. It. Had an upstairs gallery and columns draped in...

This place is a gem amongst the detritis of Jaipur. If you happened upon it as you drove by you would not dream of what lies within. As others have said before me, the 'hotel' consists of rooms/suites around a central courtyard - very peaceful and green. I struggled with the breakfasts - I found the GF millet pancakes really...

The property is just off a very busy road but manages to be tranquil and soothing. Mr Singh is a really charming and erudite host who went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable. I was given delicious millet pancakes rather than wheat, and fresh fruit was provided for my diabetic husband instead of the sugary dessert. The...

Delightful haveli full of character with very spacious, beautifully decorated rooms furnished with antiques - ours had its own gallery on a second floor plus a small private patio. A wonderful welcome from the owner and very helpful staff. Solar heated water and biofuel cooked food are amongst the green features of the establishment.

Audibly Travel included our 2 nights here for our stay in Jaipur. It doesn't look much as you pull into the cul-de-sac off the busy Road but don't be fooled. It is a 120 year old building built by the owners Grandfather. We were greeted by the owner, your arch typical Raj indian complete with turban, handlebar moustache white overshirt...

We were two couples who had rooms 5 and 6. 6 was the honeymoon -after 45 years of marriage! Try for either of these. Honeymoon had a large circular bed on a raised plinth, good sized shower, mirror with carved Kama Sutra scenes, a/c, convector heater, table chairs etc. 3 rooms shared an outside area with large table and chairs...

This beautiful old haveli has been modernised with taste and elegance. Our spacious room was cool, spotlessly clean, and well equipped, with fridge, coffee and tea facilities, filtered drinking water, as well as double glazing to cut down any extraneous noise! The owner host was charming, his English impeccable, and a long history of aristocratic and political service to Rajasthan and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A lesser-known fact about Rajasthani monuments is that rarely were forts, palaces and havelis (large residences) constructed at one go. Each generation added new wings, rooms and arches in an architectural style prevalent during its time. DeraMandawa has also seen such an evolution, as the Mandawa family constantly kept extending the residence over the years. Thakur Durga Singh, the current custodian of DeraMandawa is a keen observer of history, culture, religion, current affairs, and is a bank of knowledge so vast that he has a point of view on anything under the sun. He is what one could call a modern traditionalist, actively seeking the use of modern technology and methods to support the principles of traditional living. The inquisitive can have endless conversations with him on a number of his projects like rain -water harvesting, biogas plant, solar heating and, even, healthy cooking. He would be more than delighted to share his experiences with you. ... more   less
