Our room ( Room 5) was damp, musty and cold. The top sheet was torn and the bottom sheet was stained. The staff were helpful in dealing with the sheets and promptly brought a heater to warm and dry out the room. The second morning there was no water in any of the rooms, not even to flush the toilet...

Staff were friendly and went out of their way to provide a light meal to our group at short notice. Overall the rooms were a disappointment due to a poor water supply, several times there was no water. Some beds needed a higher quality bed linen, holes are unacceptable. Staff need a master key to enable them to clean rooms...

We were in Darjeeling to celebrate our baby's first b'day. The staff really went out of their way to help us in making the arrangements, creating the right ambiance and ensuring a great B'day party. Besides, the rooms are very spacious, well decorated, well furnished and very cozy. We had parathas for breakfast which were also really tasty.

Ivanhoe is British Era heritage house. Most fascinating thing about this place is essence of Old English culture which perfectly reflects in its wood flooring, room designs and especially wood fire chimney. Having breakfast or light snacks in outdoor garden is memorable one for us. Only drawback for lazy tourist is that main mall road is at walkable distance.

It was the Guest House and part of Windamere Hotel converted into heritage hotel, which boast of some very famous personalities staying in the property in the past which included Vivian Leigh, Charles Everest among others. Great Room and hospitality and wonderful staff. Conveniently located. I would strongly recommended this property. The only thing that robbed it off the 5...

The hot water didn't work and the weather was 4 & 5 degrees C, and they could not fix it after several attempts and nor did they let me check out earlier! So better be careful when booking as checking out early is not an option!

This booking was made through booking.com for 3xnights. The guest checked in around 10.30 a.m., but claiming they were very weary and needed to take a rest immediately, we did not take the payment at that time (our fault, but we took pity on their plight and thought to sort this out later). Later on, the guest complained that there...

Ivanhoe is and interesting heritage building, where most of the rooms are located, including the dining room. A new section has been added next door, which is not a disadvantage. The rooms are clean, spacious and very well appointed.the approaching garden is pleasant and would be lovely to spend time in weather permitting.. the meals were very good with plenty...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are a 2-storey Heritage House of India – originally built in 1871 - as a “quietly comfortable and elegant” Boarding House for British Raj families”. Famous names like ‘Vivien Leigh’ (of ‘Gone with the Wind’) and ‘Julie Christie’ (of ‘Dr. Zhivago’) used to live here. Sir George Everest, the Survey General of India (who discovered Mt. Everest as the highest point on earth) was here, along with Col.Younghusband, who led the British Expeditionary force to Lhasa, Tibet (then a forbidden country to enter). The House was also occupied by the Vicereine of India, Lady Curzon (wife of the then Viceroy); Sir Charles Bell (Indian Civil Service – British Political Officer for Sikkim, Bhutan and Tibet); George Mallory and Andrew Irvine – British mountaineers who disappeared below the summit of Everest in 1924 and alas, never returned. ‘Ivanhoe’ was, of course, one of King Arthur's beloved knights of ‘The Knights of the Round Table’ fable (or was it true?!)Today, we are delighted to see a rising tide of discerning domestic guests, who relish a stay in “an old place from the Indian Colonial days”. We also host the stays of overseas guests (with, or without, family), who feel that an old Colonial home is just right for them! ... more   less
