Looking back, i would define it as a family museum, where you can see a number of family photos hanging on the walls at every corner of the hotel. I like the structure of that building. the room was very tidy. you can find a book shelf in the room to read books. not sure whether those book were left...

When I read the other reviews of Fairlawn, I think of what someone once told me before I traveled to India: India is a mirror. What you bring to it is what is reflected. Of course, that's much more interesting to think about in other contexts, but when people complain about the staff, it makes me wonder how they went...

Clean and cool rooms with fans and air-conditioning. Great nights sleep! Value for money and breakfast included. Central location with museum and train station close by.Kolkata is hard work in the heat but coming back to the Fairlawn was a delight. It is not 5 star but you are not paying 5 star prices.Staff were friendly and courteous and Mrs...

We were not impressed with this old worn out property or the rude staff. This place is still trading on its old name of an escape in this midst of Calcutta, but really is just a run down overrated Lonely Planet pick. On the plus side the room was huge with plenty of beds.

Hotel is really well located, easy access to nice restaurants on Park Street and a walking distance to Victoria Memorial, metro-stop and also to Mother Teresa's (if not too hot weather...). Place is a "haven" after chaotic street-life of the town, neat and relatively big rooms are good, as well as breakfast with fresh fruits. Especially the elder gentleman in...

Sure, it's a little bit of a physical manifestation of has-been glory. Maybe there's too many coats of paint on the door and window joints. Perhaps there's better food elsewhere...Doggone it, I defy you to find a more charming place to stay in Kolkata! The rooms are clean and comfortable (and roach-free!), the management gracious and delightful (who doesn't love...

I was dissapointed by my visit to the fairlawn hotel. I was in the pokiest, darkest single room you could imagine with an A/C unit, next to the bed that sounded like a jet engine taking off. The bathroom facilities were fine but the Garden was filled with rude, beer swilling locals every night. Eating (if you could get a...

I stayed in the Fairlawns Hotel over 30 years ago.....and looking at the pictures I recognised it immediately. Still very green....nothing seems to have changed! When I was there it was one of the best hotels in Calcutta (as it was then). I was a young volunteer at Mother Teresa's Home for the Dying and Destitute and I was alone...

We stayed at Fairlawn for 5 nights in mid March 2012. It was like stepping back into an earlier era but with modern comfort. You could spend an hour or more in the upstairs looking at photos and objects of interest. The owner is a charming lady and the reception staff is very helpful. We arrived in the middle of...
