The Nature Center was informative and fun for the kids (and adults). The gentleman working in there was happy to answer all of our questions. He brought a box turtle out for the kids to pet and they were intrigued. They have a great variety of shells, which was what we were looking for in particular, and we learned what...

We drove our RV with towed vehicle in for a few days and, after one night, extended our stay for over a week. The spaces might not all be tucked away and private but they sure are spacious and clean. Each site includes full hookups ( yes, sewer, too), cement L shaped pads, and a large picnic table. The park...

The camp ground was very nice. The state park has many trails for hiking, walking and biking. There are bathrooms, water fountains, swings, benches and picnic tables along the trails. We even saw alligators in the stream that leads to Lake Shelby. I found wild persimmons.

This is our 4th year coming to the park to camp. We normally are here in March for a week with our youngest son and his friends and this year 3 weeks in January with just ourselves. The campground is well kept with large spots. The walking/bike trails are numerous and maintained with new additions this year. The entrance to...

We have stayed here before in the winter months but this winter did not top off our motor home's propane tank before arriving. Decided to call and get a delivery from numerous local dealers. As it turns out, the State Park prohibits delivery of propane to the camp ground. So if you plan to use propane to heat your motor...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about our campground. I'm unsure of why propane delivery is not allowed but I will have someone look into that. We apologize for the inconvenience. We are glad that everything else here at the park was a positive experience and we hope you will come back and visit us again...

The campground had spacious lots and clean showers and bathrooms. Quiet and peaceful for the most part. Do not reserve a site on Raccoon Rd if you want quiet. It's the main road to all sites. It's a busy road. Most do not obey the speed limit. The only down sides are fire ants. They are being treated but watch...

Gulf State Park has alot going for it. The most important thing in our opinion is LOCATION. It's in the middle of Gulf Coast activities, but feels far far away from the frenzy of the high rise condos and tourist craziness. More bike & hiking trails are being added - we biked and hiked all that were available - a...

We spent two weeks here in Nov./Dec. and had a great time. The weather could have been better but the camping was great. The parking pad is level and large. A picnic table was on site and a hibachi grill provided. WiFi was only available at the office and at an activity building, but I am told it is soon...

My family and I stayed here for about two weeks in October. The lots are large and the campground is well kept. The only down fall is it is not walking distance to the gulf. We will definitely be back next year though.

Thanks for your review. I am so happy to hear that you will be back next year because part of all of the new things being added to the park is a trails and walkover that will allow our campground guests to safely and easily get the beach without their car. Thanks again and hope you enjoy your next stay...

Gulf State Park campground is a very large campground located across the Beach Highway from the Gulf. Sites on Sumac Road, where we stayed, are roomy and some have partial shade from trees that survived Hurricane Ivan. There were 3 bath houses close by and they were kept very clean and well-stocked. There are bike paths throughout the State Park,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Approximately 1.5 miles from the white sands of the gulf beaches, Gulf State Park offers a 496-site improved campground including 11 modern bathhouses, pull-thru sites, back-in sites, water front campsites, and ADA accessible sites. Tents are also welcome in our campground. Great for spending time with family and friends, all camping pads are paved and big enough for large RVs with pullouts. All sites have water, sewer and electricity (20, 30, and 50 amp), a picnic table, and pedestal grill. There are laundry facilities and recycling bins located beside the Campstore to accommodate our guests. There are two playgrounds located in the campground. Gulf State Park offers very limited WiFi service and cannot guarantee service. New to Gulf State Park are 11 brand new primitive camping sites that include stone campfire rings, grill tops, and picnic tables. These new sites are nestled among the trees and on the creek, and include access to the bathhouses, playgrounds, and laundry facilities. ... more   less
