Yes it's a hotel, but it seemed just as much an art installation. In the light well that passed my bedroom to feed the breakfast hall, hung a collection of a dozen birdcages. Generic unidentifiable bamboo frames, perhaps for kitchen use, were now stretching colourful local fabric. The sewing machine used in the process was still parked in the old rice warehouse floor should you wish to exercise your seamstresship skills. Not every choice was equally inspired: in attempting to cater to the international crowd, their version of breakfast paled beside the soup and noodle parlours on every side... that and the river! Your guest status comes equipped with free access to one of four rickety old bikes with which to negotiate your place in the traffic flow. The weekend hysteria was bubbling to the surface as I left, but during the week the bike was terrific for braving back alleys and slowly enlarging your neighbourhood circle of familiar facades before heading out to expand your reach beyond the tourist maps. Providing one takes care not to be run over there was considerable flexibility among local road users; even not being phased by a determined dart in the wrong direction. Once home again, you'll have spotted innumerable eating establishments. Those mass muncheries right of the river suited both me and hordes of non-europeans fine. Two bridges up river Papanya or something featured the //Shellout//: your table gets stripped as they lay out a large plastic sheet; small pyramids of wrapped rice appear. Then, out comes the seafood bucket with your favorite sauce* that gets slopped into the middle of the table for your tactile handy dining pleasure. (*The choice of sambal manis seemed to awaken my waiter's approval of appropriate levels of foreigner curiosity.). ---This should of course be its own review... I cannot carry on about what seems to be a local tradition of sponsoring a birthday or honeymoon meal where two people eat across from elaborate arrangements of flowers and presents.

Charming hotel. There is a back door to the Malacca River. There is a Halal coffee shop (Makan Avenue) that sells great chendol. Short walk to Jonker Street. Great escape from the noise of trishaw music blaring (except for very occasional ones) and yet close enough to walk to Jonker Street. Cons - No lifts, ask for ground floor if you have challenges to climb/ carry luggage upstairs. Walls not very soundproof. Very soft bed (too soft for me, but it's subjective).

Found this hotel by accident when searching in Agoda and TripAdvisor, looking good and with the looks of old style shop houses at Melaka. Very authentic old Shophouse, the staff is friendly and great attitude, the hotel is well maintained, just a very short distance from Jongker street (5 min walking distance) and also the Dataran Pahlawan (10-15 min walking distance), quite alot of eating place nearby for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I bet you wont disappointed to stay here when you visit Melaka. One of the minus things is, the swimming pool is "under renovation" for quite some times.

Very friendly staff and in a great location. However the room had no window to the outdoors which was not described. The room was also quite dated. The pool was out of order also. Overall an ok stay but I would not return if I was visiting Malacca again.

Beautiful and super fascinating hotel. People working there are nice and the breakfast is ok but the most beautiful thing is the magica atmosphere and the colonial style architecture. Rooms are super big and comfortable.

Charming hotel with a beautifully-designed Peranakan interior - you may even want to spend some time in the hotel just to appreciate the intricate and tasteful in-house decoration. The room was very clean and extremely comfortable, equipped with quality fittings, comfortable bed and pillows and all the amenities you need. Strategically located within close proximity to various places of interest, especially Jonker Street which is just a short walk away. They provide free parking albeit limited and in a very tight alley (not very suitable for big cars), but there is a public parking directly opposite the hotel's designated parking alley which is a very good alternative considering how challenging it is to find a parking spot in Malacca. Reception staff were helpful and courteous too. The only slight downside was the underwhelming breakfast - I would suggest foregoing the hotel's breakfast and instead enjoy a hearty local meal outside. Overall an excellent experience - I would not hesitate to come back.

There were 7 of us and we booked 3 rooms of different types. One with window but no view, one without any window and another huge suite with a balcony. Overall they are all nice and clean and the one with the balcony overlooking the river is really nice and spacious and can easily fit 3 or max 4 persons. The hotel is within walking distance to Jonker Walk. The hotel provides a limited parking space on a small dead end alley nearby but just opposite that alley is a private paid parking which is much better for RM 15 overnight parking. Breakfast is sufficient and nice. Will definitely stay here again considering the location and the price.

Good location, closeby all interesting sites (Jonker street, temples clock tower) within walking distances. Room large, clean and bed offering good sleep. Quiet location. Free HotelParking nearby or large public parking available just at the corner of the building block.

Stayed in the superior suite for 3 nights last week. Had an awesome stay. Seri at the reception was warm, friendly and helpful. We had some lovely giggles. And her colleagues were equally lovely and helpful. Room was large and spacious. Very comfy bedding and the black out drape helped to get a good night sleep. Beautiful nyonya style interior almost 100 years old. The place is very close to the Jonker street yet quiet at night. Totally will stay here stain.

The room decor was beautiful. Location was great. I had the room with river view downstairs. Just a few steps out of the room, was the main walkway along the river, and onto all the attractions along Jonker. The breakfast selection was limited, but the great service from the staff made up for it. They were friendly and helpful. Only downside was that the room had a unpleasant sewerage smell.
