Stayed 2 nights at the Majestic Suite, and it was literally the most underwhelming hotel I have ever stayed at, in my entire life. Do take note that the suite costs over rm1.5k per night (list price was almost rm2k) and this was supposedly a luxury hotel. But the entire stay experience s more like 2.5-3 star hotel. In fact, it was a rather traumatising experience. Customer Service (1/5) - We arrived on a hot Sun afternoon. No welcome towel nor welcome drink provided at the lobby. They did provide a pot of hot tea later, at the room. but who wants hot tea during a heat wave. - Once, I went out shopping and returned with hands full of huge bags of purchases. This hotel’s layout is as such where, in order to get to the lift, we need to go through 2 doors (excluding the lobby door). No one offered to help me open the doors. So, I had to place all my purchases on the floor, open the door, use my body to block it from closing, at the same time bend down to collect my stuff, and slowly edge myself over to the other side of the door. I had to do this TWO times since there were 2 doors to navigate - YTL hotels pride themselves for their spa services, But their spa only opens at 11am. Enquired at the reception on more details about 2 of the services I was interested in, but the staff are not trained at all in basic knowledge about their treatment n gave obviously wrong desc. to me. But by then, I was already having very little expectation of the service there, so I just booked the slot and told them I will choose the treatment later at the spa village itself. - On the day I was due to check out, a staff barged in without ringing the bell nor knocking, obviously thinking I had already checked out. I have requested for late check out, but obviously they have communisation issues and did not convey it properly to housekeeping team. Mind you, this is a small, boutique hotel. It can’t be that difficult to keep track of which guests have checked out and which haven’t. Amenities /Facilities (1/5) - Our room key card kept malfunctioning. Throughout my 2 nights stay there, my husband n I have had to go to the reception to get replacement cards a whooping 4 times! When I asked what the issue was, they claimed that their cards are very sensitive and should be kept away from mobile phones. Funny how this issue seems to only occur so frequently at this particular hotel. - My suite did not come with cotton bud, shoe horn, shaving cream nor body lotion. The toothpaste set is like those you find in cheap motels (refer to pic), the laundry bag was the plastic type, not cloth. My sis laughed that at least her 4 star hotel in KL provided Colgate. - For whatever reason, the 2 plugpoints in the bedroom area are “strategically” placed BEHIND the dressing table (refer to pic). Good luck to you if you have large palms or fat fingers. In fact, we were only able to reach 1 of them. Gave up trying to reach the other plugpoint as it is too hidden. No plugpoint placed beside the bed. - Wifi in our room was not stable and it would drop a couple of times a night. Extremely annoying. - An expresso machine was provided but when we tried to use it, coffee was somehow leaking from the machine onto the table! And the coffee tasted really, really weird. Needless to say, we threw it away after a sip. It is obvious that nobody bothered to service or check the working condition of the machine. Why bother to provide it when you don’t intent to maintain it, We didn’t figure out why the coffee tasted weird. Probably due to outdated bean pods or dirty machine. Food (2/5) - This is Malacca, for heaven’s sake. How difficult can it be to provide decent quality nyonya kuih (the kuih served at my husband’s meeting was hard = stale). - Every afternoon, I found dry butter cakes at my living room. It would have been much better to showcase Malacca food, by providing stuff like onde onde, or even pineapple tarts. - Breakfast was mediocre at best. In fact it was so mediocre that some of us opted to eat at the local coffee shop instead, eventhough breakfast was included in the room rate. Seriously, how can anyone mess up nasi lemak? It was so tasteless. - I did not eat other meals at the hotel but my husband and his friends did and they found it to be disappointing. Finally, 2 positive things : - Luckily the room air con n shower facilities worked fine - The Spa treatment was still as good as I remember it to be. Hopefully it stays that way.

Check in to the hotel was very good, processed by a friendly and efficient member of staff. We loved the original building that forms the main part of the hotel and accommodates the reception, dining room, spa etc. The bedrooms are in a more modern tower block attached to the original building. The bedrooms are large and well appointed. We had a comfortable stay, spoiled a little by noise seeping through from another room late at night. There was a rather overactive young child who appears to have to run around the room screaming for a couple of hours before they settle down for the night. The hotel management cannot be blamed for this but improved soundproofing of the rooms would solve, or at least minimise, the noise issue. We loved breakfast with the mixture of the usual hotel breakfast dishes and some local dishes that we had never heard of before. We were adventurous in our choices and enjoyed every one of them. Service at breakfast was friendly and efficient. The breakfast experience set us up for the rest of the day. The hotel, like many of the other larger hotels in the area, is located a distance from the main tourist area. It took us about 20 minutes to walk there, which may be challenging for some guests. Taxis are available but we did not find many around when we wanted to use them. Our checkout experience was very positive with the receptionist coming out to the driveway to wave us a cheery goodbye. We had an enjoyable stay at this traditional hotel, despite the soundproofing issue.

We spent three nights here and were underwhelmed. Overall, it was poor value for a visit to Melaka. If you have stayed at similar properties in other cities, don’t expect the same experience. This hotel is far smaller with fairly limited amenities. The rooms are nicely furnished (as in the photos), but ours was not particularly clean. If you are at all sensitive to noise, pay attention to the other reviewers and don’t stay here. You might as well have a paper screen between you and your neighbors. Pity you if there are small children or people who like to watch TV on either side. A notice acknowledging poor sound proofing and requesting people to be mindful of noise after a certain hour would be helpful, but there’s no such thing. Breakfast is included and included eight or ten options, two of which lean toward a more traditional Western breakfast. The fresh juice, fruit and pastries were quite good. We were very disappointed to learn the pool was closed due to exterior wall work. It looked lovely, particularly after walking around during hot days. If we had known it wouldn’t be available, I would have chosen another hotel with a pool that was available or paid a lot less for a similar historic property knowing we wouldn’t be swimming. Add problematic key cards, no cold water or tea on offer in the lobby (a nice touch that many other hotels have), a dusty room and paper supplies not having been refilled in the room when we arrived, and I’d give it a pass. I really wanted to like it, but the little annoyances added up and I was glad to leave.

Wonderfully welcome stay in this boutique colonial gem. It has the most amazing luxurious rooms, beautifully styled, with AC and classy products for the guests to use. The location is full of interesting history, Dutch & Portuguese, which is celebrated at the hotel, especially breakfast & dinner menu, and it’s services offered. We ate some of Malaysia’s uniquely different dishes, at the Majestic as well as indulging in an amazing spa experience too. If you want to discover something different, personal and with a touch of class, visit the The Majestic if you’re in Malacca, and not one of the big hotels! Alvin & his team will offer you a warm welcome. The hotel’s location is in town, near the Heritage Trail, the eclectic Joncker Street area and river, which is full of bars, restaurants, street food & market shops. We only had two days and was able to make the most of our time there!

This was the first hotel we stayed in on our trip around Malaysia and it was not a great start. We arrived at night and the entrance hall seemed drab and uninviting (as was the receptionist). It was the standard of the room which makes this hotel 3* instead of 2 as it was truly in the heritage tradition, large and comfortable with a walk in shower. But so noisy. The walls are paper thin and we could hear every movement from our neighbours and the outside traffic. There were painting works going on which didn't help. We ate in the hotel's restaurant which was pretty dreadful as our first intro to Malaysian food. We vowed to eat elsewhere the second night but reception completely messed up our booking for a popular restaurant so we had no option but to eat there a second night in solitary splendour! Breakfast was a little better as there were other people around and a good choice of Malay dishes.

We had a wonderful two days in Malacca at the Majestic. From the moment we entered to the moment we left it met all our expectations. The facilities that we required were met in spades. The staff were helpful and polite. Breakfast was a great start to the day. We also tried the restaurant at night and that didn't dissappoint. As you can see from the pictures the room was a wonderful place to relax after a days walk around Malacca. It's opposite the river and and an easy walk along the pathway into the old part of Malacca. It does take about an hour but the restaurants and murals along the way are a delight to see and worth the walk. Alternatively the main road from the hotel to old Malacca is an easy walk and alot quicker. If I'm ever back in Malacca this is where I will go,

It’s such a pity the hotel has deteriorated in service by so much after covid. It was such an exquisite boutique hotel pre-covid, with turndown service and welcome tea, which was absent during our recent visit. We arrived late at night and there was no one at check in counter. Waited for some time before staff appeared and another staff brought us to our room. He requested for a tip from us for bringing us to the room. What a disappointment. Would have offered if hotel and service is still as good as before. Took 1h to look for a cot around the hotel. Luckily the breakfast is good. It’s quiet and exclusive compared to bigger mass market hotels with market scene. The spread is very adequate and it’s quality > quantity. The staff on duty during day time are much better th tan those I met when I checked in late at night.

This is my second stay here. Its a very beautiful hotel but honestly, its aging inside and hopefully they get these small things sorted before it gets worse. The shower room is marble, so its tarnishing terribly, whats worse is the silicon around the shower screens are getting terribly mouldy and disgusting looking. The wifi is terribly slow and practically useless. One of the toilet door doesnt roll smoothly as well. Another issue for me is aircon; its permanently set at 22 and centrally controlled, we cant adjust it and at times, it feels too warm. The soundproofing is kinda bad too, lots of noises of people moving up and down can be heard on our second night. The gym is small but sufficient. But overall, its still beautiful. There is free breakfast and the staff are friendly. The bed was exceptionally comfy and they do a turn down service. Really hope they settle the issues and make it beautiful inside as well (now they are painting the exterior and the swimming pool is closed).

This colonial house has been beautifully restored to its former glory and is now a quiet and comfortable hotel. It has a wonderful spa and best of all it offers all guests a complimentary city walk with the friendly and extremely knowledgeable Wati. This two hour walk completely changed our initial view of Melaka being a tourist town. We saw beyond the river cruises and brightly lit rickshaws and discovered historic back streets and an insight into Malay and Chinese culture. We would never had such an education had it not been for Wati at the Majestic. The hotel is situated near to the river and all the main sites. I also loved having a pristine launderette next door so I was able to do a weeks washing before we moved on.

From the moment you enter this hotel, you realise how special this experience will be! From the gin cocktails in the lobby, to the view from the room - all the staff care for your stay! We enjoyed the most relaxing spa, the most comfortable lobby bar, a magnificent breakfast selection and a cooking class showcasing the local cuisine. Alvin - you and your team ensured our stay was perfect and memorable. Thank you!
