Detailed Reviews
Heeren house was run so long before big tourism comes.
It seems previous owner had Chinese writing on the wall,
which makes more symbolic.
Very good location and nice river view.
It is not too busy because of the edge, a little bit noisy Karaoke song
the other side of river but it stopped late night.
Historical building, just good enough renovations,
nice furnitures(not too fancy) and comfortable facilities.
Sitting chair beside window makes time back nostalgic feeling.
Cafe downstairs has good coffee as they say and kids(staff) are very nice.
We were driving up from Singapore, all enjoyed staying here.
If we have a chance to come here, we would stay here again.

it's my kind of boutique hotel, it has lots of character and is in a great location. Our room was a good size, nice view of the river. The staff were very nice, perhaps a little nervous (I think it was new management at the time), I'd recommend it, if you like boutique hotels with character. I would definitely stay there again. Oh and they have a kitchen and washing machine and dryer.

I and my friend stayed there for 3 days. fell in love with it right away. My room has a fantastic Melaka reviser view. The owner is a good friend. He's open-minded and friendly. Heeren House is older than my grandma =) It's over 200 y.o.

Yes, Thom, Heeren House the building is around 230 years old. It was built by the Dutch during their colonization of Melaka. We strive to maintain such environment and ambience at our guesthouse. Thank you for your very kind words.

Please note that most reviews are for the previous owner. Currently there is little focus on the hotel side of things at all. The staff largely ignored us, there is no breakfast and the room was never made up during our six day stay. The main aim is to make money from food sold at roadside tables which was often accompanied by live music from 9-12 -this may take place below your window! Be warned - there are no staff on the premises overnight!

The Heeren House is a small hotel in Melaka. They have good reviews in the Lonely Planet and in the Rough Guide. However we found it very disappointing. It is an old building and has a great location but it is very badly maintained. It is also run very inefficiently. All the guides mentioned that it had a good cafe - this is non existent. We arrived hot and tired after a long drive, with kids, looking forward to lunch and had to walk out again for a bite in the heat. Breakfast for three days in a row was stone cold scrambled eggs, toast and coffee. We avoided the eggs after a day as we were not sure how long it was stuck in the fridge!!! The orange juice was watered down with ice. One had to ask repeatedly for hot milk for the coffee. The board in the cafe was a source of amusement. It always mentioned grandiose items like cheescake and applecrumble which were never available. The staff seem to be cutting corners as the owner is not on site. Also for their price you can find better rooms in that area. We were not looking for luxury and have stayed in small hotels all over Asia but you do want value for your money. We learnt a lesson. Never go by web-sites and guide books alone.

The hotel is an authentic old Dutch house that has retained all its charm. Excellent location, in front to the river and in the street where are all the most beautiful buildings in the old town, right next to the Jonker Street. Spacious rooms, beautiful colonial furniture and very clean place. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. This hotel is a really good value!!!

Heeren house is about 2 minutes walk from the red place, the central place of Malacca. The staff is very nice and helpful and they "forced" us to try their home made cakes: absolutely delicious.
They made a big effort to maintain the originality of the rooms and of the restaurant.
Look at Facebook for the cakes 😃

We booked to stay at Heeren House for a couple of nights. Unfortunately, we couldnt bear to stay for 1 night and left the same day. We were shown the room with the 4 poster bed (antique) and I was amazed that the windows which looked out to the Melaka River did not have any curtains, or blinds, so as a woman I had to openly dress/undress in view of all. The rooms faced the river bar 1 room which had a small double bed and this was private because the mango tree outside the window provided the privacy. The tiny cupboard was lined with newspaper. No tea/coffee making facilities, no phone, no satellite Tv. The plaster on one wall was crumbling, probably due to water getting in. The shower/toilet area was cramped and in my opinion, the electric shower seemed unsafe to use. We couldnt bear to spend 1 night there and checked out same day. Heeren House is badly neglected by the owners and its about time they invested money to bring it up to a reasonably standard. The bill for 2 days was RM$278. Extortionate considering that the facilities were so poor.

Very close to market and hotel. Need Taxi to Sentral.
However please check the beds. I had bedbug bites all over me after staying there and even bought them home in our luggage. Had to get pest control in to get rid of them. There are much cleaner places same location.
