I went for a short weekend to malacca . Our hotel is a very convenient place to stay cause my family and I just have to come down of the hotel and we are in jonker street. We don't have to go far to find for food because everything is near by
checking in was a breeze. if you are driving, the location is a nightmare as you have to find public place to park nearby and then walk to your hotel. the best would be the road behind it, or next parallel road to jonker. The room is quite basic, with all sufficient things you would expect from a hotel. They do provide a parking space, however it cannot be accessed if there is night market. there is wifi, hot water for shower and 2 card keys. however, the hotel main entrance will be locked from 7pm onwards, as it is a busy street. however, they provide only 1 key for it. hence, it would be quite inconvenient to split up. would definitely try out a different hotel, unless your whole trip would be to stay near to jonker. The hotel would need to do more.
We only arrived close to 4am as there were bad traffic jams at both Singapore and Malaysia Checkpoints on a Friday night. I sent a text message just before midnight to inform Fomecs Boutique Hotel that if there would be someone to help me checked in when I arrived as the hotel does not have a 24-hour reception. So I didn’t expect a response after sending the message as it was close to midnight then. When we arrived, the reception was around to open the main secured door for us and quickly helped us checked-in in under 10 minutes. Really grateful and appreciated the great service. Booked a room without window but it actually came with a really small one, which was fine since there are always mosquitoes around and opening windows is not ideal. The room was clean and bed was comfy. There were bedroom slippers, hairdryers, hot water flask provided too, which were not expected due to the very value price. As we had requested for a room away from stage, the room was really quiet and we had good rest. The bathroom was of adequate size and hot water shower was abundant. The WiFi strength was alright throughout our 2 nights stay. The hotel has a drinking water dispenser that we can take hot/room temperature/cold water any time. As it’s a shophouse, there’s no lift to the second level but it wasn’t long flight of stairs so it was no problem for us that had only haversack as luggage. Would definitely return again. …
Affordable accommodation with good location but the cleanliness of the rooms could be better. It was a decent stay. At the entrance of the jonker walk street. The rooms were not very clean though. Floor was sandy and dusty. If you are not particular, it's pretty decent.
Needless to be lengthy but whoever wanting to shortlist Fomecs as your choice of hotel, please read the following comments prior to booking:- <Pros> 1. great location on Jonker Street 2. bare and clean 3. acceptable reception area <Cons> 1. Very rude front desk staff especially a woman named Pxx Ling 2. although deluxe (?) triple room, toilet is very, very small. They almost shortchanged our paid room by auto downgrade-not ethical. 3. toilet's hanging hooks unreasonably placed at shower area; logically your new changing clothes can get wet easily 4. sleeping area not friendly as it has only 3 clothes hangers and no other hooks for hanging purpose 5. not enough electrical sockets and storage area 6. stain on in-room sitting sofa and many other places 7. comforters looked like never changed or cleaned at all; maybe due to prolong recycle for use for next guests 8. bad smell. Stink badly when humid and hot. 9. very stingy hospitality; they charged for almost anything the guests ask for; eg. extra toiletries, extension 30-mins late check out, towels, etc. Fomecs don't even keep their reception area air-conditioned and was so hot and humid. Other cheaper guesthouses along Jonker Street can afford to maintain comfortable, better air-conditioned reception area. 10. no in-room safe box. It seems Fomec do not display the Innkeepers Act. Overall, Fomecs is NOT THE RIGHT CHOICE for family with infants, younger kids and older folks. Without due care and hospitality, this place is NOT IDEAL for guests who bring along trolley bags, infants who need electrical kettle for preparing milk in the room, younger kids who may face safety hazard by playing near the stairs, older folks who have weak knees or immobility. Lastly, no baby cot. Undoubtedly, without perks to guests like concierge service or free breakfast, Fomecs' rates were much more higher for being 'boutique' than those near Dataran and Mahkota 5-stars hotels can offer. Last but not least, the room images you see in those hotel websites may be misleading. Many rooms come without windows! We will not be back for sure!…
