Nice and clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Just a walking distance to mall, famous tourist spots and Jonker street. Need to be careful on night when walking because less people around and the street light limited. Also very limited car parking lot.

We had a very pleasant stay. The staff was very accommodating. All the amenities were excellent. It would be great to have a dressing table or rack near the mirror and a side table for the bed. Kudos..you all deserve a pat on the back

My stay at Rucksack Caratel Hotel in Melaka was disappointing. The lobby and reception area looked unprofessional, and the lift to go up to the rooms was small and slow. The rooms were extremely small and cramped, with black blinds instead of curtains and a poor selection of TV channels with bad signal. The WiFi was also poor, which made it difficult to use the TV and surf the internet. The room was dusty and lacked basic amenities, such as a place to put toiletries in the shower area, and there was no fridge available. Furthermore, the room layout was cramped and uncomfortable, with a dirty bed underneath the sleeping bed that wasn't even covered with a bedsheet. The quality of the room slippers was also poor. To make matters worse, there was no sheltered carpark for those driving, and early check-in was not possible despite requesting it in advance. Reception was only available until 10 pm, after which you had to look for the security guard if you needed anything. Overall, I cannot recommend Rucksack Caratel Hotel in Melaka due to the poor service and accommodation provided. It was an unpleasant experience that left me disappointed. Meant for backpackers in my opinion.

Response from General Manager, General Manager at The Rucksack Caratel
Responded 3 weeks ago
Dear Vacation13591531785, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We appreciate your stay in our humble hotel. Our hotel is a small 2 storey boutique hotel hence the size of the lift as per suggested by the professional is as such for the safety of the people using the lift. The concept of our hotel is a homey leisure feel where people traveling from around the world can feel at ease and relax. As we are located in the middle of the city, our hotel provides easy access for our guests to walk to all the highlighted tourist attractions without worrying about traffic. We focus on giving our guests a comfortable sleep after an enitre day of exploring Melaka town. Our television is not smart tv. However we do provide 9 channels which includes Cartoon Network, HBO, Chinese channel, CNN, BBC to name a few. We apologize we were not able to provide you with a specific channel of your preference not listed in our channels. As for wifi, we are trying our very best to provide the best. Our room is equipped with the basic amenities such as bed, 2 pillows for each person, 1 bolster (for double beds), kettle, hairdryer, iron, clothing hangers, mineral water, bath towels, slippers, toothbrush+toothpaste, shampoo and shower body gel. The shower area there is a small compartment at the shower to hold facial cleanser. We have already informed online that all our rooms do not have fridge. However we do have a sharing fridge at our reception to keep guests items chilled if needed. All our beds are provided with fresh clean linens for each new check ins. However, our hotel policy for make up rooms is only upon request because we respect our guests' privacy and safety of their belongings. We do not allow anyone to enter rooms without the knowledge or permission of the guests. Our slippers are bio-degradable hence they are thin. We sincerely apologize for a few areas which were overlooked by housekeeping. We will highlight this to housekeeping to ensure cleanliness to be the utmost priority for the comfort of our guests, Due to the location of our hotel, parking is limited and outdoors which was already mentioned online under hotel facilities. Early check ins are upon availability and not confirmed eventhough pre-requested same as any other hotel. If upon arrival room is ready early, we would allow early check in otheriwse check in will need to follow our hotel standard check in time as per mentioned online. We apologize that you did not enjoy your stay as it was not up to your expectations. We appreciate your feedback for it will help us improve to provide better service to all our guests. Have a great day ahead and stay safe!

Affordable price, nice location, facilities are just right, friendly staffs...What more you need? Even I don't plan to go to Melaka to swim, lol, but they have small pool. I think it's more than enough for a hotel with this price range. I definitely will choose Rucksack Caratel again if I visit Melaka again :p After book the room online, I contacted them via email for reconfirm. They replied quickly.

The accommodation is near the central, easy to walk and enjoy Melaka. The staff is friendly and helpful. It was great accommodation for my solo travel and to try the "caravan" style room. If you are a backpacker traveling to Singapore and you are searching for a place to stay and enjoy Melaka for 1-2 days, it might be a good choice to choose the Ruck Sack.

Rucksack Caratel's primary plus is the excellent location. It is extremely central, but is set back enough where you don't have to compete with the night market traffic. I opted for a larger room with a view for a small upgrade price and I would recommend doing so if you are considering this hotel. The bathroom setup is a little strange and I would note that. The sink is outside the bathroom, which is fine, and the toilet and shower are in small frosted boxes. If you are not comfortable seeing your bunkmate nude or knowing that they dump, it may be an awkward stay. There's a very thin privacy line there. The hotel also seems to have some very strict Covid protocol that is still lingering. You have to tell them if you want a proper room cleaning. The location and sizable upgraded rooms make this an excellent option for your Malacca stay.

Rather than opting for a normal kind of arrangement for my small family usual family trip on school holidays, we then choose to stay in this establishment, full of hope it can offer something fresh. It safe to say that we had been blessed with wonderful experience instead. Their biggest selling point was definitely the location itself, as a host of attractions just a walking distance away. Yet we would like to remind you that parking spots are scarce, please act accordingly. Check in process is smooth, we had been allotted with Buddy Caravan room (was informed that the rest – in which able to cater numbers of family members has been fully booked) The setup of room was ok, able to accommodate 2 adults and 2 kids accordingly. The mood / deco was full of reference towards the States pop culture, and possess so many instagramable spot, plus readying board games + books to read offers something different with the rest. Wi-Fi readied was surprisingly good, in which enabling me to settle pending office matters. The only letdown I can clearly see from both of my boys were their inability to have fun at readied pool, due to both of them can’t swim either. I do confess that we will seriously consider of staying there in the near future.

Near to main square, bout 5 min walk, clean room(elvis) thought it was going to be noisy as situated next to the main reception but all good. Night market in town is good on sat and sun nights. Pool was small but OK, construction site behind was the view though. Shower was good, and water in the main reception area, both hot and cold available.

Stayed here for 4 nights and really enjoyed our stay! Rooms and beds are very comfortable. Used the pool several times and pretty much had it to ourselves. In a really good location quiet, but a short stroll to the town. Great value for money and loved that they had a water dispenser in reception for refills of hot or cold water. More hotels should do this.

I love this little hotel. The room is clean and bed is comfortable. Free carpark lot Infront of the hotel. Instagram photo spot all over the hotel. Love it. Only con is the location is abit quite at one corner. Not far from the main action area but a 5min walk back on a quiet street to the hotel feel abit uneasy.
