Stayed here for a weekend trip from KL.

First impressions very good. Fabulous old building frontage, very modern interior but with hints of tradition. Very stylish interior design and decor with a nod to the building's heritage. Lovely!

We had an Executive room. Well appointed, reasonable size, lovely bed and bedding.

On first impression the bathroom is stunning. Modern, stylish design with a fabulous looking bathtub and a separate shower.

However!

We checked in to the first room allocated to find a pool of water in the bathroom, looked like the bath had leaked but we couldn't be sure.

The staff moved us to another room straight away to be fair, do no worries.

The new room was very nice, although the carpet could do with a good clean and the occasional chairs were a little grubby and not in keeping with the rest of the decor.

Bathroom looked great but the bath fittings were all loose, the bath itself was loose and it leaked.

Tried to run a bath this morning and it flooded the bathroom floor.

Also, no hot water. I had to boil the kettle to have a warm shave and I couldn't run a warm bath, had to have a cold shower instead.

Eventually after leaving the shower running for 10 mins, my wife was able to have a warm shower.

Service at the hotel was average. Polite and friendly enough but could be better.

Had to pay RM5 for ice each time we wanted some, not a big deal but seems a bit penny-pinching and kind of sets the tone.

We went out about 11.00am on Saturday, left the sign on the door for our room to be made up but had to ask for it to be done when we returned at 3.30pm. Not impressed.

Could do with a few more things to make the stay more comfortable, such as little tubes of toiletries (body lotion in particular) and decent sized glasses and plates, knives, forks and spoons in case we wanted to order food in.

So, apart from the bath and water issues, nothing major. But when added together it was frustrating and disappointing.

That's why it's a shame. With a little more care and attention and proper maintenance, the hotel would be great and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
,
As it stands, I will not be returning and would not recommend

Hotel is new and clean, walking distance to Jonker, lovely tasty breakfast consisting mainly local food (we had the nasi lemak, fried noodles, dim sum & fish ball noodles). exceptionally great service at the breakfast cafe by this lovely chinese waiter who even remembered my name, hotel room number and how i liked my coffee.
we also took the largest room buildup on the 2nd floor which offered more privacy and quiet.

just a couple of things that struck me as off were:
1) they only gave us 1 access card which can be inconvenient if both are not out at the same time
2) although kudos to the parking area is free and near the hotel but it is very very tight and reserved for people with exceptional parking navigational skills. not exactly where i would bring a large truck or suv (see pic)
3) wifi was down during entire trip but apparently this was not hotel's fault as it affected the area
4) there was some water rationing exercise due to a dry spell in malacca but we were lucky enough not to get severely affected. would suggest leaving a note in respective hotel guests' room as a courtesy notice.

overall i would still recommend this place. wouldve gotten a 5 star review from me if not for the comments above.

This was one hotel which I was really looking forward to stay at. I spent a considerable amount of time looking for a great, well located boutique hotel in Malacca and booked the 1825. Unfortunately, the hotel really doesn't live up to expectations for a number of reasons which I think guests need to be aware of:

1. We stayed for 3 nights and room never cleaned, no items replenished, no bins emptied, towels never really dried.

2. There is no fridge in the room, and as it is very warm, you have no where to cool water etc. They give you two small bottles of 'warm' water, but these were never replenished.

3. I looked forward to seeing the beautiful public areas as the website said:

"The 1825 Gallery Hotel is inspired by the theme of antiquity, bringing the experience and atmosphere of the bygone days to reality".

But there were Halloween decorations everywhere. Why?? It really ruined the aesthetic and didn't seem in keeping with the hotel at all. If I wanted a Halloween themed hotel, I think I would have gone elsewhere.

4. Breakfast extremely limited, cooked individually for you. Nothing really for vegetarians apart from a plain omelette with cheese. One other suitable item was never available, I think because of no Nutella, but no one seemed to be bothered to get one, just told us each day that it wasn't available.

5. They seem more interested in telling you rules.... there are pages of rules in the room book rather than great information about what to do locally.

6. When we checked in they gave another group a glass of chilled drinks, but none were offered to us, I don't know if it was an ethnicity thing.

7. Late check out fees. When we asked if we could check out later, we were presented with a list of fees which would automatically be applied! Now I can understand if they were completely booked, but there was no flexibility. The man on check in did apologies.

So, not one to revisit I am afraid. Malacca is great though.

Funky boutique hotel in Melaka with polished floorboards, a fish filled pool at reception, and heaps of seemingly authentic life stained period furniture. Great location on the river in old town nearby India Town. English skills of reception staff were poor. Knowledge of local facilities poor. No maps. No fridges in room. Requests for ice initially rebuffed: “Will bring some to you at 3 PM” before revision to “We’ll bill it to your room.” Eventually resolved to our satisfaction. No fridge and no free ice is not a great customer value proposition. Room not being made up until after 3 PM doesn’t sit well with the practice of the town going on siesta at that time during the hottest part of the day.

The room was very spacious and clean, with a large bathroom too. The staff was super friendly and they even helped us out printing some documents we needed for onward travel. The design of the lobby (and the rest of the hotel really) is really cool so as soon as you enter the hotel you can feel the boutique vibe. Location of the hotel is great too; close to Jonker Walk (where the night market is on the weekends) and the Red Square/Dutch Square with all the historic buildings, lots of good food options close by as well.
The view out of the window in our room wasn't spectacular but it was great to have at least some natural light coming into the room. We didn't have breakfast included in our booking but tried it 1 morning and it was ok, nothing too special so for the price I'd recommend eating breakfast out.

Booking last minutes when we suddenly decided we wanna go to Malacca. Glad that we only booked it for one night because there was no Wi-Fi connection during our stay. It was very important to us since we didn’t have local SIM card. Went to reception to ask and they kept saying they checked and they got internet whilst our phones stayed no internet, we even showed it to them. Bedroom was clean and in good size, a little dark in the bathroom but manageable with two bed put together so it’s uncomfortable in the middle. Location was on little India and only a short 10 minutes walk to jonker street. Maybe because our room was very close to the elevator, it was quite noisy throughout our stay and got so noisy very early in the morning with kids running around and screaming their guys out, we couldn’t really sleep. Breakfast were made to order, we had nasi lemak & pancakes which were really good actually. I think we’d give this place another try if they have internet that works and we can choose the furthest room from the elevator.

Hi guys, stayed here with my friend. We picked River Suite aka most expensive room at this hotel. However there are things that this hotel can improve:

1. Steamer. Why on earth you provide a steamer not iron to your guest? This is my first time, staying at a hotel and doesnt have iron but only steamer. Fyi, iron is much cheaper than steamer. And your steamer doesnt do the job. 👎🏼

2. No kiblat sign

3. No laundry bag

4. Very basic amenities. Paid for suite, but i expect at least you provide lotion, bottled shower gel, conditioner and shampoo.

5. Water heater took a while to heat up

6. Room key card only 1 unit per room.

7. Very not practical cloth hanger.

8. Quite small tv size for a big room like river suite

9. No room bell.

Pros:
1. Staff friendly and attentive

2. Spacious room

3. River suite great view

4. Air cond very cool

5. Carpeted floor

6. Water pressure ok

8. Good mattress

7. Has bath tub jacuzzi

8. Nice interior at lobby

This is a beautiful hotel located just along the malacca river and walking distance to Dutch Sq and Jonker. The interior is very nicely decorated and lobby snells wonderful.

Room is of good size and bed is comfortable. My kids loved the bath bubbles and bath bomb provided. The antique looking cabinets has a very foul snell when you opened it up thou and hence we didnt bother to put our stuff in there.

What I thought was lacking was the touch of hospitality a hotel should have - 1) staff did not greet us when we entered the hotel and continued talking among themselves. I stood infront of them for a good 1min before i was served… in fact throughout our stay, no one greeted us except for a v young lady working at the breakfast var. 2) requested for extra towels for my kids but they rejected and told me only 2 towels a room and i wanted more, i would need to exchange my existing ones. These are no big deals really but its factors i would consider if id like to stay there the next time esp when there is no short of boutique hotels in malacca

Lovely place. Excellent location. Hotel is by the river. You may walk to any where as it is close. The hotel is lovely - friendly reception, nice decor. Parking is available. Though limited. We loved our stay there as we could get around day n night easily. Near by there is a coin laundry to wash our clothes as Malaysia is too humid

A disappointing stay from the photos the hotel and room looked beautiful, we booked a Riverview suite however a riverside room would be a better description due to the density of the trees. It was a room not a suite, albeit it looked beautiful and offers a large bathroom with fountain and bath. The staff didn’t engage with us during our stay nor did they seem interested, only in stating the rules and costs should we break any ie not producing our receipt for the Rm 200 card deposit and many others. The room had a mosquito issue which we had to sort ourselves after a bad night with us both sustaining 20 plus bites. On checking out we were advised that the deposit would be founded after 7-10 working days - news to me! I have never had a room inspection on checking out. We are older and house trained …..

No. Not all suites have river views. I booked the king suite - no windows. Just ask if you want the river view and see what the price difference is. 😊

Is a roadside/street parking. As usual don't leave valuables and unattended bags in the car to attract attentions, should be safe. There is a mini fridge in my room.

If you want a room with a view, pick a river view suite. otherwise wasting your money. our room with a window looked onto the building next door which was very close
