The Royal Hotel is the exact opposite of the little island where it stands. While everyone else in Levuka greets you with a smile, service is non-existent here. At first the bar is “for resident guests only” but after one of the nicer ladies remembered seeing us around town earlier, they let us order beer and soft drinks (no food,...

We didn’t stay in the Royal Hotel : when we arrived, the hotel was full and the lady at the reception was pretty unfriendly, not ready to help us to find another place. We went to the very close Clara’s Holiday Lodge… that I recommend a lot !! It’s cheaper (50 $ double room with breakfast) and clean, the family...

The photos give the hotel much more credit than the actual place which needs some signficant restorative work - the hot water heaters barely produced any hot water. The staff however, are incredibly friendly and helpful and are always willing to help.

I stayed in a garden bungalow. It was cheap but run down and not even very clean. I had to clean the bedside cabinet before I wanted to put anything on it - it was filthy. The coffee table in the sitting room is a hazard. The corners of the glass looked really sharp and I tried hard to avoid...

The Royal is Fiji's oldest working hotel. Like stepping back in time, it reflects the old world charm of yesteryear. The staff were all courteous and helpful as well as a great source of information about Levuka. My daughter and I stayed four nights, enjoyed the people and heritage and would the Royal to anyone who likes unique experiences when...

A step back in time. We stayed 3 nights in this rambling old hotel. Full of character and characters. We stayed in the family room; spacious, comfy old cane chairs, windows opening on both sides with a view to the park and a view to the sea. If you're a light sleeper the thin walls could be an issue but...

I despair at the negative comments by self indulgent Australians who expect 5 star luxury on a South Pacific Island where the average wage is $3.50/hour, cost of living is astronomical by any standard and yet the level of service in terms of a smile, a welcome and 'how can I help you' leaves one wondering - why do WE...

We stayed the bungalow for two nights. It is a roomy open plan room. It has a comfortable bed and dining table and chairs. There is a fridge in the room. Outside has lovely big porch for sitting outside on. There is a pool to have a swim in just outside the room. The hotel is no more than 100...

The price does reflect the standard, but we had expected something old and quaint, instead it was just old. The twin room in the main building was probably one of the worst available, really narrow with a very dingy porch, the worst part was the horrendous bus ride from the ferry in the dark then the dismal room with rumpled...

We loved staying here, the bungalows were roomy and mostly comfortable but we had one very old, dodgy bed. Breakfast was good, and staff very friendly and helpful. The whole place was calm and relaxing - unless you stayed in the cabin named Winifred that came with its own rat, who we promptly named Winifred. The town was lovely, great...
