There was a considerable amount of rmb price difference from what we were quoted on our reservation than what we were made to pay at the front desk. A hidden 15% tax was added to the total and we were told it was an extra charge to use our bank of china debit card. For this price we could have...

The hostel is nice in general but can be a better design to make it more user-friendly. Upper deck is difficult to climb up because of the poorly designed ladder. The bed is very light that I can sense the motions of the traveler sleeping below me. The ventilation fan is very noisy so I can't turn it on even...

Very good quiet, comfortable and clean international hostel with good accommodations at moderate prices and friendly staff. Many resources to help you get around shanghai. Close to many restaurants and easily accessible by metro line 2 & 7, in the heart of the city.

This hostel's common area is spacious and comfortable, but the rooms are tiny. The dorm room has metal lockers and small beds, though comfortable. There are bikes to rent but the deposit is a bit high at 700RMB, I never have that much cash on me. It is located in an ideal spot near Mr Pancake and not far some...

Good location as it is near cheap food, the subway, and a temple. But the atmosphere felt like stale bread. There aren't any bonding activities. The common space is not that inviting as there are only a few benches. Would be better served with more furniture and tables so people could sit, chat, and make friends. If you are looking...

Pros: - Well-located - 10 min walk from the metro and 15 min from the all-night airport bus. Staff on duty all night to help you out. - The rooms are clean, spacious and there are massive lockers for all your belongings, as well as power points for each bed - Clean showers and toilets, good amount of hot water...

My friends and I stayed here and really enjoyed it. The location is close to many things and makes catching a cab quick and easy (yes, you can take subways but we found cabs to be quicker and easier...just have the address in Chinese). There is an amazing street vendor less than two blocks away every night...they serve up ramon...

Tucked in a gritty alley, you get a little worried when you first arrive, but once inside you feel better and the neighborhood is obviously safe. The rooms were comfortable with a nice clean bathroom and shower, good linens on beds and working A/C. It's also very well located if you want to explore downtown Shanghai. A couple good restaurants...

The hostel is nice, quite and clean. The hosts are mostly young traveler from everywhere. The room are nice with the bathroom and the shower, the rooftop bar is not very exciting, but is good and relaxing. The receptionists are helpful but not very kind. Overall it was a good stay and i think i will choose it again

We stayed in a four bed room and it was very clean but had a strange smell in it. The staff were helpful and attentive but some had limited English and did not know some things about the hostel. This hostel has well appointed facilities but seemed pretty empty when we were there, Overall a place to stay for a...

Staying in Jing'an

Neighbourhood Profile
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Le Tour Traveler’s Rest Youth Hostel is located in the downtown area of Shanghai and is just 10 minute’s walk from the Subway (Line 2 and Line 7) (JingAn Temple Station and Airport City Terminal). Shanghai Exhibition Centre, Paramount Entertainment and former French Concession are all within walking distance. 5-minute's walk from the subway Line 7 - ChangPing Road Station, which leads directly to Shanghai EXPO Park.Nearby Nanjing West Road is a busy main road with offices, shops, restaurants and pubs. However the hostel is set back in a quiet residential side street away from the hustle and bustle. The building itself was built in the 1930s and is a former Towel Factory that used to supply towels to almost every family in China. When renovating the building we tried to salvage and re-use as much as we could from the old building – much of the furniture, flooring and panelling that you see in our guest rooms and common areas are made from the original timber. We accepts ISIC, IYTC, ITIC, HI Hostel card, Hostelworld VIP Card, … as our membership cards. We can offer accommodation in double rooms, twin rooms, apartment rooms and shared single-sex dormitories. The hostel offers a lively, vibrant atmosphere and has a Café and Bar, 24 hour access, free internet, bike hire, laundry, luggage lockers, garden, TV/DVD lounge, Table Tennis, Billiards and a quiet reading room. Also, at our reception there is a Travel Center, where customers can book flight and train tickets, as well as tickets for local one day tours and acrobatics shows, and much more besides… ... more   less
