First off, the hotel staff is very helpful. The area is also great, located fairly close to the metro station and just a 5min walk from the Yunnan Road street food. The biggest problem is the 3 floor walkup to the rooms. I had 2 large bags with me and it was a mission to carry it up the stairs....

I stayed here around 4 times whenever i need to visit Shanghai. :) It's just located on near People's square that quite easy to looking around Shanghai. I stayed both dormitories and double bedroom, they were quite acceptable that considering the price. But some of the hotel staffs cannot understand English, so i used Google translator that show them the...

When we arrived and checked in, the beds were still dirty and we had to ask if we could get clean towels. The toilets are just disgusting and the floors and beds are really nasty. We were happy we could leave after two nights. The people who are working there, don't speak any English and can't provide any information. The...

This hostel is probably the worst I have ever stayed in. The only good thing is the location, which is really good and central to everything in Shanghai. We had booked male dorm and female dorm and when we arrived we were told that there were no more room in the female dorm. So our only option was to stay...

Pros: Great central location, that can easily reach both the Bund and the French concession by foot. Cons: -Staff seemed indifferent to us, both in the lobby and the bar, I suspect and hope this is more to do with being shy around English than genuine rudeness. They couldn't offer much tourist advice either. -Unclean and smelly rooms with dirty towels....

Drab, lacks hostelling atmosphere, rooms and toilets not cleaned regularly. Hot water morning and evening only. Dominated by longstayers. No sign of any managers with everything left to young staff. No signs prohibiting smoking. Hot water morning and evening only. Many better hostels in Shanghai

The overall accommodation is good except for the housekeeping services. I was staying in a private single room. The trash was not taken out as well as the bin in the bathroom. Sometimes they didn even change out the towels. I think that should be improved.

Over priced for a hostel of it's "quality". Renovations and construction noise from neighbouring buildings begin before 7 AM and continue nearly constantly for at least the next 12 hours. The hot water is stated as being 24 hours but unfortunately they don't say these hours are consecutive. After they start up the water heater it takes about another hour...

great location, close to the metro. Near the hostel there are shops, restaurants and bars. The Bund, People Squiare and Yu Yuan Garden are within walking distance. The hostel is above the bazaar / market hall. From early morning you can hear the noise from the street. Because of the bazaar is also a bad smell in the hostel (smells...

Perfect location, most things walkable and otherwise you can take the taxi or the subway. The bund is a 25 minutes walk so that's okay! There is a supermarket in the street, very nice. They also have a shared fridge. The only bad thing was if you are sleeping in the dorm, do not sleep next to the lockers because...

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
