Beds are hard. Internet is slow. Bathroom wall is glass and up against one of the beds. Read the reviews - they're all accurate. The rooms varied so much from person to person in our G Adventure tour. Our room had cigarette burns in the chairs, other rooms had windows that wouldn't open/close, other rooms had no heat. Some rooms... More

We stayed in this hotel only one night and it was ok... Location not bad as close to the metro station, old town and walking distance to the band. But none of the staff spoke english and was not very friendly. Would not stay there again

We stayed here on tour through Shanghai and found that it was a short walk to the Bart and public transport. It's around the corner from the shopping centre too. It's very basic and not exactly the best beds they were hard and the Internet reception was quite bad. But the staff were friendly and it was basic but location... More

I stayed here with a g adventures tour and was sharing with someone i hadn't known long. The hotel is located fifteen minutes walk from the bund and in a very chinese area. The room was clean however the glass wall for the bathroom posed a challenge. While an adequate size we realised oater that some people on the tour... More

Think for once I have perfectly described this hotel in the title.... but will write a bit more so that I can get my review in and a few more points.... joke. The Brit reviews largely down to the fact that it is a G Adventures tour base. They use central hotels and this is ideal for the Bund and... More

Very near to the bund (20 minute walk) and taxis are easy to get and cheap. The wifi is very poor, to the point that not much can be achieved. Rooms are spacious, shower nice and warm. Mine had a used nappy in the corner so obviously not cleaned too thoroughly but generally ok. The bakery over the road is... More

Was staying here a couple of nights as part of tour. First room they gave us had wet carpet, peeling ceiling and smelt damp due to leaking air con. Also room was small and the bathroom had a glass wall and one bed right up against it which didn't give much privacy as I was sharing a room with someone... More

A slightly shabby hotel not too far from The Bund. Prostitutes calling cards were shoved under the door (not uncommon in China unfortunately). There was a notice in the room saying to ignore any cards and not to go off with strangers but then I wondered why they weren't stepping up their security and monitoring who was going up in... More

The last hotel of the G Adventures tour, this also goes by the name of Yuhang Hotel. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfy and the showers are decent, but the staff are unhelpful. Wifi is good (although expires every 24 hours so you need to speak to staff) and it's around a 10 minute walk to the nearest... More

This hotel was ok as a place to sleep while you're exploring the fabulous city of Shanghai but nothing special. Our room looked nice on first glance but when you looked a bit closer was a bit grubby, when I checked under the bed as we left it looked like it hadn't been cleaned for months - there was even... Staying in Hongkou

Neighbourhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
