If you love 20th-century architecture or the marriage of East meets West, you'll love this hotel. The entry and the rooms are a charming mix of Asian and Western design elements. It's an authentically early-20th century building in a city that often lacks for architectural history. As an actual hotel, the Pei Mansion is adequate but not a standout. This...

I stayed here for one night because the history sounded fascinating and I'm so glad I did. It's a former art deco architect's home transformed into a quite luxurious boutique hotel and I very much enjoyed my stay here. The rooms and fit out are spectacular and it's located in a trendy part of Shanghai and I enjoyed wandering the...

This is more a building with large private dining rooms for Chinese and some nice, old style, rooms with nice, overly large, bathrooms with a jacuzzi and high end shower, than a hotel. Had little to offer to enjoy the stay but the room. Breakfast is horrendous as is dinner in the "garden restaurant". Now the entrance lounge was rented...

The hotel was in a great location near Nanjing road shopping. It is need of a refurbishment. Breakfast was included but questionable quality. It was generally clean, but not really clean. Staff were friendly. The grounds were small but interesting. Carpets are worn and wifi was awful.

The bedroom was comfortable but the good experience stops there - breakfast was so bad - you would not give it to your pet.... restaurant is a tent - and the salad was a week old - bread was hard - and the service was slow and ignorant... real bad experience

An excellent place to stay. Great location- being handy to the city and in walking distance to most places or transit lines. The staff as per Shanganese style were both friendly and efficient. The rooms were wonderful and had that old world charm about them. They were filled with antique style chattels . The bathroom was modernised with a large...

The Pei Mansion is not a 5 star modern hotel with no character - but that is exactly why we chose it. We wanted a unique hotel with character that reflected the "personality" of Shanghai and that's exactly what we found at Pei Mansion. The hotel has a "faded grandeur" that is appealing and distinctive. The hotel rooms & bathrooms...

It's nice to stay in a very chinese style hotel, the room are big and very comfortable but I cannot say the staff was friendly nor helpful. And the service and the food were just very bad. But the area is cool....

This hotel was like nothing I had been in before. A tiny property down narrow alleys and lots of traffic. A beautifully decorate period piece occupying such a tiny footprint - with a few floors for rooms. Lovely antique glass fronted cabinets displaying antiques or bath robes (who knew). Lots of dark wood, all antique and solid Asian heritage. I...

The rather old mansion hosts very nice rooms that are kept in old traditional style. They offer all possible amenities that a visitor to Shanghai wants to expect who does not like to go to large hotel chains. The service is rather simple but the breakfast quality acceptable. Language wise don't expect too much English but they speak enough to...

Staying in Jing'an

Neighbourhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.
