Location : The Phoenix is located on a nice spot, it is close to people's square and the Bund. The staff: The personal is friendly and helpful. The rooms: We stayed in a private room. The room was very noisy and the beds are far from comfortable; we could feel the springs in our back! After complaining, they gave us...

Hotel is placed in the very centre of the city, 1 minute walk from the Dashaji metro station or 5 minute walk from People's Square metro station. We chose the double bed standard room. Before coming there we got message from hotel with precise directions how to achive the hotel. Guys are speaking english easily so this was the place...

A friend and I stayed at The Phoenix Hostel for 3 nights. The location is perfect; right by Dashijie station so getting around Shanghai is no problem! It is also just a 20-30 minute walk to the lively Bund. On the first night of our stay, some other guests from our room went out and arrived back at 3 in...

My friend and I were here for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hostel is very modern and clean and the ensuite shower and toilet were a great bonus. The staff were also very helpful and accommodating when we asked to switch rooms (thanks to some inconsiderate roommates!) and moved us straight away with no hassle. The rooftop...

Nice place to stay, in the middle of town. Relaxed environment, friendly staff and a cool rooftop bar to enjoy Breakfast or a beer in het evening. Really enjoying this spot! Shanghai is a beautiful city and full of really cool attractions and scenery

Friendly and helpful staff make this hostel/hotel a good option for a first visit to Shanghai. Excellent location near Dashijie station (2 minutes walk) or People's Square (5-10 minutes walk). Yunnan Rd South also has great food options, so you can literally walk out the door and find restaurants, or walk up the street a few blocks and find great...

At a walking distance from the town centre. Good value for money. Clean and quiet. Athough a hostel it had a hotel standard and the location was excellent : could see the Pearl tower from my bedroom window and at the same time a very traditional area with small shops everywhere, Within 5 minutes walk from a metro station.

We stayed three nights here. I thought the hotel was quite centrally located, organized, and rooms were clean and tidy. It's also budget-friendly. Wifi was free but really spotty. The main issue here is definitely the staff, while generally friendly, were really less than helpful... with anything really. Luckily we had planned ahead in terms of places to visit and...

I stayed here in 2014 and again in 2015. They did some renovating in between so the room I stayed at was even better than before. They have both rooms and dorms. I stayed in rooms both times. Some of the rooms have those window walls in the bathroom, but not all. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was...

We stayed here for two nights whilst transiting through Shanghai. The staff are good, plenty of restaurants nearby, subway station close by, although it is not to far to walk to many places. We had a room with private bathroom with an interesting view into a little alleyway... Locals going about their daily lives etc. Would we stay here again?...

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
