Chose this hotel as we had an overnight in Shanghai and it was fairly close to the airport. Overall impression was the service was excellent from check in to lobby restaurant. Lobby looks great at night, but somewhat dark during the daytime. Room was large but underwhelming in decor. Dark wooden flooring and furnishings. Must be a new trend in...

Stayed for 3 nights on a business trip. Used hotel car collection from hotel, which worked a treat. Met at the hotel entrance by a dedicated member of staff who took me straight to my room and checked me in there. Perfect, when arriving off a long flight. One of the quietest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in, no...

First of all, the rooms were wonderful, especially the bed linens - I need to find out what kind of sheets they use, such luxury and made jet lag a non event. The service was very good and the staff attentive. I found that straight across the street you can find several great restaurants and bars/local pubs. The area seemed...

This is a great hotel if you need to be at the convention center. There are plenty of shops and restaurants in the direct vicinity, however, it's a ways away from the Bundt and the more touristy areas in Shanghai. My room was great, spacious and well-equipped. Didn't have time to explore - stayed just for one night.

This is primarily a business hotel : it's principal advantage is to be across the street from the new exhibition center, similarly to its competitor the Kerry hotel. It is just above a subway station, but that line is not very convenient. Surely there is a price to pay to stay so close to the convention center, but finding taxis...

Staying in Century Park

Neighbourhood Profile
Century Park
Shanghai residents see Pudong’s suburbs as the place that grown-ups retreat to when they’re ready to settle down and stop living in the cramped confines of a refurbished lanehouse. The areas around Century Park are some of the most desirable as they are in close proximity to the Metro Lines, granting easy access to the heart of Puxi. The park itself is a huge draw, it’s one of Shanghai’s biggest and there are sports fields tucked into one of its corners, but five-star hotels, museums and great malls make life in the Century Park area easy for the homesick foreigner. And if living in a Western bubble in China isn’t your thing, there is plenty of local flavor to be had in between the major development. Some of Lujiazui’s futurism can also be seen in buildings and sculptures throughout the neighborhood as well.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel Shanghai is perfectly placed for business and leisure. Located in the heart of Pudong, the hotel is directly opposite the Shanghai New International Expo Centre and close to the green expanse of Century Park. Metro line 7 is accessed directly from the basement of the Himalayas Centre, allowing easy citywide connections. The Maglev train station is just a short walk away for speedy seven-minute transfers to/from Pudong International Airport. Construction of the Himalayas Centre started in 2006 under the direction of world-renowned architect Arata Isozaki, who also created the Barcelona Olympic Stadium and Los Angeles MoMA. Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel opened in March 2011. Inspired by Chinese cultural elements and traditional feng shui principles, architect Arata Isozaki designed the landmark Himalayas Center, where Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel is located. A three-dimensional Urban Forest comprising dramatically sculpted columns defines the central section of the Himalayas Centre. It also carries an important loading capacity function and provides an arresting entrance to the Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel. Tien Shu Patterned Walls Wrapped around the base of the two towers presents a conceptual interpretation of ancient Chinese characters from the Tien Shu by Cang Jie. Special windows have also been custom made to subtly insert between the characters allowing light to flood the hotel interiors. The Jumeirah Himalayas Hotel tower is constructed in the form of the Yu Cong, an ancient Chinese ritual object formed from an outer square representing earth, and inner circle representing heaven. The cylindrical atrium stretches 14 levels through the centre of the tower. ... more   less
