We wanted to book a hotel near the Hongqiao airport and hence booked this one.The hotel is at least 15 minutes drive from the airport (in the early hours). We booked two double bed rooms with attached bath and made the payment accordingly. But at the time of checking in,we were given the options either to accept two double bed rooms with...

The hostel is not very centrally located. The location is close to metro line 2 Beijingxin station (5 min), which is 6 stops from Peoples sq in central Shanghai. Beware 25+ min metro rides for getting to places to explore. The hostel itself is old by all means, but standard is OK - hot water in shower is working well...

I was stay here for a week. The location is good. You can walk 5 mins to a subway station but the room is smell and old. I had ask for change but they came up with hundred of excuses. Furthermore, I had ask them to clean up, they promise me to do in the next day, but 4 days...

I have stayed at the Blue Mountain Youth Hostel twice so far and I would definitely go there again. Both times it was with a couple of friends and both times it was for a short stay, only 3-4 nights. The only difference was that during our first stay we had a private room and during the second sta we...

We arrived very late (around 2 AM), had no problems checking in. The place seems like it needs some renovating and revamping. The room (private, with own bathroom) was average… nothing special to it. Bathroom did not feel clean, and I did not feel comfortable stepping into the shower. The lobby walls were cute, you could write on the walls...

If you come from Hongqiao Airport it is only a 30 minutes subway trip to get there, now if you come from Pudong Airport that is a long way to get there. Having myself a departure ticket from Pudong Airport early morning I had to take the taxi the cost of 200 yuan , the subway open the door at...

Stayed here one night to be close to Hongqiao Railway Station. The hostel is easily reached directly via metro line 2. On arrival, the reception area looks tired and in need of sprucing up and a good clean. I stayed in a good sized, clean, double room however. Bed was quite comfortable, bed-linen and towels clean. I was glad of...

First, this isn't really a *hostel* - it's employee housing. The majority of the guests are Chinese who work in Shanghai, or people who are job hunting and cannot afford housing (expensive city) so they stay here, many of them for a year or more. For those seeking a backpacker/chat/festive atmosphere, I strongly suggest somewhere else. You can and will...

As a youth hostel, we can't expect too much for the facilities, but there's an important thing I guess the hostel management team should put effort is the quality of the guest. Because some of the guests (most of them are the local Chinese) are extremely rude and arrogant. I've seen them argue with the receptionist because they didn't bring...

This a delightful hostel. They are located about 2 streets from the # 2 Metro line. The #2 line actually runs directly to either of the Shanghai airports. I booked an en suite room and was suprised that a hostel provided in room amenities similar to many hotels in China. This hostel room was more like budget hotel. The room...

Staying in Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang

Neighbourhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.

“If you happen to stay in the 6-bed male dorm reachable only via the roof terrace, be sure to check if you have a good wifi signal. If not, the people at the reception might give you the wifi password of the room of the cleaning ladies (who are unaware of this) which is close to yours. Also, ask the staffmember that shows you your room how the AC works. We had some trouble figuring this out”

“Choose a private room, they are not that much more expensive and it's worth it, as the dorm rooms have a lot of guests who wake up early and go to bed early, which may not suit a lot of young backpackers lifestyle.”
