We had an exceptional room with a huge glass wall between the bathroom and the lounge/bedroom area. Lovely leather sofa and chair and overall a beautiful room BUT it was absolutely freezing! Our heating system was pumping out freezing cold air. We reported this to reception in the morning after a chilly sleep and asked them to fix it. We...

We stayed 2N in a standard room on the 8th floor. Although a standard room, it was luxurious. Has a pillow menu for you to choose from. Our room overlooked the city, and looked down into a primary school. Saw the kids doing morning exercise before class. The surrounding area has a few constructions going on, but we didn't hear...

This is a great hotel, my somewhat small room had a comfortable bed, an amazing bathroom with a view of the Shanghai skyline, for a bath with a view, excellent restaurant, and the hotel is a very short walk from the bund. The only downside was most staff (except at reception) did not speak even the minimum amount of English,...

On the 8th floor where the room was a decent size for a big busy city. Reception staff very helpful and their English was much better than my Chinese. Easy check in and comfortable room well equipped with great bathroom with all amenities including shaving kit, toothbrush etc etc. Breakfast selection was very good for our 4 day visit. Great...

We stayed here for only one night. The rest of our stay we stayed at the hustle and bustle of Nan Jing road. This is a very cool place to stay if you want to see the skyline from the park and see how locals live. This is a non touristy area with a lot of perks if you want...

This is a lovely hotel with large and comfortable rooms and beautiful bathrooms. The food is of a high standard. The breakfast buffet is huge and contains a mixture of western and chinese food. They have a large pool although you do need to have a swimming hat which seems to be mandatory in China. Staff were helpful and friendly....

No doubts this is a nice hotel with comfortable rooms and good breakfast. However, there were a few irritant that need to be considered if you choose to stay at that hotel. Location: This hotel is located 3 km from the Bund (6 km return) and much more from other locations. Hotel restaurant: Good food but very expensive. Exemple, a...

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour package. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom is amazing. My friend loved the rain shower head. The buffet breakfast was very good with freshly squeezed orange juice. Service is also very good as front desk had our rooms sorted in no time. Would definitely recommend it.

In common with several reviewers, we ended our 2-week touring in Hong Kong/China here and it was easily the best of a decent selection of hotels. The location, facilities, breakfast, pool and wifi are excellent, cleanliness is also to a very high standard. Other reviewers have pretty much nailed it but it is worth adding that the staff training must...

Staying in Hongkou

Neighbourhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
