Stayed at Sunrise on the Bund for 3 days during a China tour. Hotel staff were very helpful, spoke English reasonably well. Rooms were clean and comfortable and the location was very handy to all attractions in Shanghai.

A kind of historic building close to the Bund. The room are nice and most without building in front. Only problem is that there are quite a lot of groups and the check in can take for ever. Same for check out. Breakfast is good

We were very excited to stay at this hotel. We stayed on yellow mountain the night before (mediocre accommodation), had been up since 4am to watch sunrise The outside of the hotel and lobby is beautiful. The staff all say hello, however only 1 employee actually smiled and looked welcoming during check in. Bags were taken to room and room...

This hotel is in a great location. Just minutes away is the Bund with its stunning views. Surrounding the hotel are many restaurants and convenience stores. The hotel has four restaurants which are all very expensive. Breakfast was included with our room and it was fabulous. The staff in the hotel are all eager to be helpful and can speak...

This was overall the best hotel we stayed at in a three-and-a-half week tour of China and Hong Kong. Very large room with all necessary facilities, good range of breakfast choices, helpful staff. Good location a few minutes' walk from the metro. Convenience store for cheap beer and wine opposite the main entrance.

This is a superb hotel - especially our wonderful upgraded 3rd floor room with high ceilings, walk-in wardrobe, bathroom with bath and separate shower, and a heating/cooling system that actually worked. The room and hotel was spotlessly clean, and breakfast was all that anyone could possibly want. Location was just a few minutes walk from a lovely riverside park in...

The rooms are large and bright, with everything from bathrobes to a hair dryer included. The hotel is located in a small side street, so you won't hear be disturbed by traffic. Food prices at the cafe on the ground floor are ridiculously high. Go to a nearby restaurant for a reasonably priced meal.

We stayed at this hotel for a total of three nights, the first night was the beginning of our six-night four-city tour and the last two were at the end or our tour. It is located at the top end of the bund on a side street, not too far from the tunnel across from the Pearl Tower. To start...

The reason I gave this hotel 5 stars is not just because it was the best hotel we stayed in during our 10 day visit to China, because they had a great breakfast, excellent service, nice and clean rooms, a metro station nearby, or several convenient stores within 1-2 minute walk from the entrance to the hotel. The reason I...

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed the hotel. Good view and fairly easy access to the metro only 2 blocks away. Concierge was helpful and courteous. Nice gym and pool facilities. Hotel bar was severely lacking - Ye Old Captain bar is awful - update this. The hotel would benefit from a classy bar area that...

Staying in Hongkou

Neighbourhood Profile
Hongkou
History oozes out of every fiber of the city, but Hongkou is a particularly notable neighborhood. Shanghai was a safe haven for about 20,000 Jews during the Second World War, and traces of this heritage can still be found in buildings and park monuments. Historic foreign relations aside, this neighborhood throws you into traditional Shanghainese life without taking you too far away from the city center. Some of the city’s best-preserved, ancient longtangs (laneway communities) and shikumen (Shanghainese lanehouses) are still in use as actual residences here. If you like to be surrounded by local faces, Hongkou is a great area to spend your time in. The football stadium, Duolun Lu and the North Bund area await should you need some entertainment.
