We really enjoyed our stay here and by booking early we got a very good rate (c£70 per night for a double room). The rooms are very nice with big bathrooms and the location on Nanjing road is also great. The bund is a c10min walk away with all you would want of shops and restaurants just outside the hotel....

The position of the hotel is the best. Right on the peoples square in Nanjing Road. You cannot have a better place to stay in Shanghai. I have stayed at atleast six 4& 5 star hotels in Shanghai and can confirm no place can rival Nanjing Road in Shanghai if not whole of Asia. The lobby is also great. Rooms...

Stay for a week at HOJO plaza, one block away from Pedestrian Walk Nanjing Road Shopping belt. Lots of cafes and fast food restaurants around the area. Next to it to the west is the Charm Hotel, Majesty Plaza, Le Royal Meridien and across the road is the Radisson. To the east is Central hotel, Grand Central and across the...

After a trip around China, staying in Beijing, Ningbo, Shangai and Hong Kong, this was unfortunately well below the standard of the other hotels. Not a truly European standard 5*. The porters/bellboys did not bring inside our luggage, and only took it up to the room after we asked at reception (this may sound a bit anal, but when you...

A perfunctory five-star hotel that goes through the motions without pride or care. To save money on the aircon bill, they simply disable it in "winter". "Winter", FYI, means external temperatures of up to 15 C and with the building heat and full-on sunshine, rooms reach 28 C during the day and stay at 26 C at night. That is...

I've happily stayed elsewhere in Shanghai but selected the HoJo Plaza for this trip due to its very close proximity to the location of my three days of meetings. It was a fine choice. Ignore the name on the marquee -- for North Americans, at least, it evokes an acceptable but middle-to-lower grade of hotel/motel experience. Instead, this place offers...

This is an adequate choice, good location, reasonable price. Okay views of city from 12th floor. Nice, active plaza below with lots of Chinese people out at night shopping and eating. Can walk to Bund, but is a bit of a hike. Hard beds, but manageable. Good breakfast buffet. They don't want to give complimentary email at the business office...

This was a great hotel for the price we paid -- the location was excellent, right off Nanjing Road and in between two subway stops that were on multiple lines, making travel around Shanghai very convenient. The rooms were spacious and clean. However, hotels.com marks the Howard Johnson as having complimentary wi-fi, but please note this appears not to be...

Our stay in China, began here in Shanghai and ended in Beijing with stops in Xi'an and Suzhou. Arriving into Shanghai, we navigated the our way (via a friendly American who was familiar with Shanghai) to the Meglav and then a easy transfer to the amazing Shanghai subway system. Clean, efficient and easy labeled in english, we made our way...

Stayed on the Howard Johnson Plaza for three nights. I came directly from a stay at the Gran Melia Shanghai, and even though the Howard Johnson is a nice hotel well situated in the center of Shanghai, the Gran Melia outrank it by far. I got a room on the 9th floor with city-view and complimentary internet access. Bed was...

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
