We traveled to China in September-October of 2012 with Viking River Cruises company. It was unforgettable experience for us! You can read my China diary here: http://bit.ly/TUDpp2 All the hotels we were staying in were superb, especially we liked 'The Portman Ritz-Carlton' in Shanghai and 'Kowloon Shangri-La' in Hong Kong. Room cleanliness, comfort and services were surprisingly amazing there!

The rooms are very nice, though a little worn. Fantastic location, and amazing breakfast buffet! There is a metro entrance close by, which makes it very convenient for getting around the city economically. There are tour busses that use this hotel, though, which can be annoying with the pushy crowds.

This hotel is one I stay at every time I visit Shanghai (6 times a year). The property is in an excellent location near metro stops and shopping malls. A 15 mins walk to People's Square, this hotel has a choice of dining (inside and outside) and a newly refurbished gym and spa.

I have stayed here for business - twice this year. Ive stayed in other ritz carlton (osaka, guangzhou) and thought the rest were more prestigious and nicer than this...But i still enjoyed myself here. My first stay here i just used the fitness club anytime i wanted...they also lent me a yoga mat then (unfortunately this time they didnt lend...

This was my first experience in a Ritz Carlton, and though you hear a lot of to-do about the chain, this particular hotel really wasn't much to write home about. The area is nice around the hotel if you're looking for shopping that you can get back in the US. There's also a Starbucks onsite. The rooms are adequate and...

This Ritz is in a fine location, surrounded by the world's most expensive designer clothing stores and up, up, up-scale malls. But you definitely feel you are staying in an office tower, a feeling intensified by the fact that you walk into the hotel and find elevators -- the desk is around the corner and not easy to spot the...

We arrived at the hotel at 1 am after our flight from Manila was delayed by the typhoon. Our check in was fast since it was early in the morning. Our room was ready with welcome sweets(eclairs) and a personal letter from the General Manager which was expected from 5 star hotels like this. In the morning a lady knocked...

Stayed here for 5 nights just after the Grand Prix. The room was beautiful and the hotel itself was in a great location not far from central Shanghai and the Bund. Even a taxi to Pudong was about USD$5 so we had no troubles traveling back and forth for business meetings. The staff were extremely attentive and the service during...

After the 12hour flight from Seattle and all the normal fuss with customs and getting to hotel we would have been happy with just clean sheets.....but this hotel was a wonder! Exquisitely decorated, comfortingly welcoming. Service at the pinnacle of expectations. Room service dinner delicious. Comfort of the room exceptional. A side note: I unknowingly had left an envelope with...

Spent two nights here on business and local colleague insisted staying in this part of the town (in stead of PuDong), what a good choice... The hotel is located in a central affluent business/shopping area. While you have world's top luxury brands within your reach of less than 50 yards, you can easily walk(or a quick cab-ride) to some of...

Staying in Jing'an

Neighbourhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.
