Stayed in Marvel Hotel for 4 days from 20-24 Jul. Pros: Location is just perfect, just next to Dashijie Line 8 Metro Station for easy connection anywhere in SHA, only 1 stop to People Square. A lot of food options nearby. The road next to the hotel is famous for the Mongolian style hot pot and Lamb Skewers. A must...

Service here is terrible / non-existent. Worse than a typical chinese run hotel. Highly don't recommend unless you just want to sleep. When I reserved a non-smoking room they gave me a smoking one, they said non-smoking is more expensive. Is that logical? Then I reserved twin bedded room, two guests. They forgot to give me breakfast coupons on check...

Wow this is a great hotel. Its location is prefect. It is located a few meters from a subway station (line 8) just beside the People's square. Two stations from the bund and all the main shopping area and 4 stations from the world expo site. Can't find a better location. Also it is almost in straight line using the...

I have been in Shanghai in March for business trip. In the past I stayed in YMCA HOTEL several times. I prefered that hotel for the good location and convenient price of it. But last 2 years there was renovation. When I stayed this time, that hotel was completely changed. The rooms were very well. It was possible to enter...

This historic hotel is very clean and beautiful. Within a few minutes walk, one has easy access to three different subway lines as well as a major bus hub. In addition, the hotel is centrally located so that all the main tourist attractions are just a short subway ride or average walk away. The service is excellent. Upon arrival we...

This was probably one of the worst hotels ever. 1. My mum ordered a non-smoking room. I arrived in the room and noticed two ashtrays and a cigarette lighter. So we go to tell the lady at the desk that we ordered a non-smoking room. Do you know what she tells us? “There are no non-smoking rooms”. AARRRRRGH. We insist...

whew. this probably was the most expensive hotel in this trip == my group was trying to limit hotel expenses == except for the beijing leg. well, it's not really worth the price. the rooms were not very clean, as you probably can see on the pictures, there are some stains already on the bathroom wall and floor. i wouldn't...

We stayed 4 nights in April 2007.As budget travellers we found the hotel ideal and cheap. The room was large, with a view, but the bed was so hard.Check the mattress when you arrive.Behind the hotel was dozens of places to eat,so cheaply. Maybe a bit seedy, but very safe. The metro and top of the main street were only 200 metres...

This was actually more like "average" but I put above average because the price was right. Clean rooms, no cleanliness problems, laundry prices were very reasonable, minibar prices also very reasonable (6 RMB for a beer, 5 RMB for an OJ). I stayed here for 4 nights. No complaints; the maid service was actually better than that in a "5...

This was perfect... cheap lit all day/night parking, I was warm and left alone. It's in the bad side of town but I don't care. Just make sure you bring flip flops for the shower.

Staying in People’s Square

Neighbourhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
