Staying in this lovely hotel for 2 nights with our Travelmarvel tour of China. This is one of the nicest hotels we've stayed in during our 11 days so far and is very central. The view from our 20th floor room is amazing and the amenities are great. Elegant lobby area.

This is the 2nd hotel that i stayed in on my business trip to Shanghai. Location is pretty good (approx 300 mtrs from the line 2 subway). The best thing was that i got a free upgrade to the room i booked. Good room, good bed. I wish the staff at the reception was a little more courteous. No access... More

Entrance to this hotel is through a large lobby with very few seats in it, this shouldn't be a problem as there is a bar/ coffee area towards the back. The only hotel we stayed in which allowed smoking within the inside premises the bar had a 'smoking' and 'non smoking' area. These were all in the one large space.... More

My 2nd visit to The Equitorial Hotel Shanghai and found it, as before, a very pleasant experience. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the general 'feeling' is happy. My room is quiet, clean and well serviced and the hotel has all the facilities I need for a business trip.

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
