The room and the bathroom is spacious and well equipped, interesting artwork in room. To me the room is too dim and prefer to have better lighting, the remote control for the blinds is kind of strange and maybe it is me, unable to find the switch for one of the ceiling light which needed to cut off with the... Just a really great hotel. The rooms are incredible, the service is perfect and I am sorry I only had one night. This is understated luxury. The location is also perfect in the French quarter. Good food and bars just around the corner. Definitely worth a stay.

First of all you deserve a huge CONGRATULATIONS for even finding this little known hotel here on Tripadvisor, I never found it in any brochures and took a pot luck gamble with a Travelzoo deal one day...and I'm glad I did, this is an absolute GEM and I'll explain why! I stayed here for 4 nights, my first time to... More

The room/lift key didn't work properly any day I stayed in that hotel. Had to recode it every day, it was annoying. Staffs were not accommodating. Didn't get even one hour extra late check out after staying there for 5 Days. Only great thing was that the room was nice and well decorated and all amenities perfect. But won't stay... More

Yes, the room are nice and spacious. The beds are wonderful, and de location is excellent. But there is too much wrong with this hotel to let it have 5 stars. Boutique also means understaffed, so the staff too often asks you to solve your problems yourself. Need coffee cups? You can fetch them yourself. Putting your campagne cold? You... More

The rooms are unbelieveably huge. The bathroom itself can be a bedroom! Robes are provided. Comes with a double bed and a lounge that can comfortably sleep one. The toiletries are branded and good. Location wise is walking distance to Xintiandi and 2 subway stations. Service is good though they had mentioned to us we burnt their curtains with our... More

The room was just awesome. I had the change to have a free upgrade from standard room to a magnificent suite. The reception staff is great, but the Chinese restaurant is a disaster. The hotel is though nicely located in the hart of the French quarter in a quite street.

This is a wonderful hotel for the room and the size of the room. Beautiful but the service is the worse that I have experienced in some time. The breakfast was terrible so we went either to Starbucks or even McD. They could not get a taxi even when we asked the night before. This is ridiculous. A wonderful room... More

Thumbs up for the size of room and the amenities in the room ranging from the kitchenette to the hifi and surround system. The office table even had a printer! The bed was very large but too soft, and made my back feel uncomfortably curved. I was checked into a room that had a faulty TV and DVD in the... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
