We stayed here for 2 days as we were here for a friend's wedding. Superb location - you can't really beat that for the cost which amounted to about USD 190 for 2 nights. However I found the rooms very very dark. So for ladies out there who needs to dress up/do makeup for a special event while in SH,...

Not that this room is haunted or anything...it's right above the hotel's kitchen. I was hearing workers cleaning their pots and pans from dinner at 12 midnight, lots of banging and chopping....they started preparing breakfast at 3am and cooking at 4am. I tried to call up the front desk but no answer. Abit tiring in the next morning when I...

We booked a suite room in Lapis Casa in June. I was a little bit disappointed when I arrived and found that it was under some minor construction. The rate was 260USD per night for a suite room so I was expecting a better room and service. However, the room was plain and dark. The television in the room was...

The hotel is extremely well located. The staff is very helpful but very few understand English! For a holiday it is not appropriate. But if you are a business traveler it is worth a try. The breakfast is very typical Chinese and the staff does not understand your needs at all. There is a Fish restaurant on Premises and the...

The decor and service in this boutique hotel are its real highlights, and the location is what makes it a good value, and also why I'd definitely choose it again over a large hotel chain when staying in Shanghai. Also, unlike other newer boutique hotels in the area, they take Amex which is good for corporate travelers. When I say...

Excellent location and nice deco, but really need to improve its make- up/cleaning standard, as the mould in the shower room is thrilling.

The minute my family and I (6pax) went into this small hotel lobby we were rather impressed by the old-fashioned decor and the courteous, friendly welcome. English speaking is not a problem at all. The bedroom, a romantic, comfortable and reasonable size was filled with aroma from the burning candles, Even the toiletries in the bathroom was of a certain...

This beautiful boutique hotel is a rare find in Shanghai. Perfectly located 2 blocks from Xintiandi, you'd be hard pressed to find a hotel or staff that would make you feel more at home. Each of the 18 rooms is unique in its design and contains antiques - all available for purchase - from the glamorous days of 1920s Shanghai....

Staying in Xintiandi

Neighbourhood Profile
Xintiandi
The refurbishment of a block of old shikumen into a carless entertainment center called Xintiandi, filled with restaurants, shops and bars, turned this area below South Huangpi Road into one of Shanghai’s most fashionable areas. Luxe condos house people who can afford the high-end brands that fill the malls and shops along Madang Road. The pleasant Taipinghu Park provides the area with green space and is also home to Shanghai Fashion Week twice a year. It’s not all glitter and glamour, though, as the rise of Danshui Road has given the Xintiandi area a shot of toned-down character. Small bars and cafes, mostly owned by locals, have people hanging out in a formerly quiet, unassuming part of the neighborhood.
