We stayed at the Pura Vida hotel in Alajuela with Berni, Nih, and Carlos and the gang (including 2 cool german shepherds) 2 nights, during our visit to Costa Rica. What a fabulous place! it was like staying with old friends who have a gorgeous home 5 miles from the San Jose airport. The cabinas are lovely and tastefully decorated,...

We stayed at the Pura Vida our first night in Costa Rica. When we checked in, my wife realized that our passports were missing! Berni and his wife helped us track down the cab that dropped us off, and thank goodness the driver found them! That was just the kind of above and beyond service we experienced while we were...

From the moment Carlos greeted us mere minutes from arriving in Costa Rica, we fell in love with Pura Vida (both the hotel and the meaning behind the phrase you'll hear often in Costa Rica). Besides two of the most memorable breakfasts I've ever had in my life, the gorgeous grounds, the ridiculously convenient service of arranging our car rental,...

I first met Berni while reading in a hammock on our private little patio outside our villa. Delightful, entertaining and knowledge-rich conversationalist who left me laughing and informed. Berni knows people who know people ... which gave us great confidence in moving about by cab and tour bus. The grounds and buildings -- and humerous postings -- gently coax guests...

I cannot write enough good things about our experience at the Pura Vida. As soon as we contacted them about availability, Berni responded immediately with a witty and extremely helpful e-mail regarding the hotel, area, points of interest, rental cars, and so forth. He made the reservation for our car to be delivered to the hotel/picked up from the hotel...

Thanks so much for the kind review. Perhaps we'll see you again one day - in the meantime we'll be working diligently on making this the kind of place we like to stay when we travel . . . thank you again for taking the time to write your review, Berni, Nhi and Carlos

A rendezvous with my spanish-speaking-backpacking daughter was made perfect by the warmth & beauty of the Pura Vida Hotel, Berni, Nhi, Carlos & staff on either end of my limited 10-day exploration of Costa Rica. Advice & hospitality, nourishment, and beautiful & luxurious surroundings -- everything we needed. Thank you.

We got so much great help and advice from Pura Vida even before we got there--a car rental was reserved, advice on where to go in our short time was given, we got instructions for getting a taxi from the airport, and a tour guide and day trip was arranged for our first day. We planned to stay two nights...

I would recommend this hotel very highly to folks traveling in and out of San Jose. We stayed overnight after our arrival flight and again before we departed. The hotel is lovely and comfortable, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and the food was fantastic. I would come back for the food alone! Don't miss the breakfast and dinner.

We ended our trip at Pura Vida and were wishing we could have stayed longer. Berni helped us with many of our arrangements, including our rental car. He not only helped us find a trustworthy rental car company, but helped us even further when the charges were a little off. (They were so nice about it that I would recommend...

This was one of the best hotels I've ever been to. You show-up and are greeted warmly by not only the owner, but his big german shepards (sweetest dogs ever..little kids could hang on their ears and I don't think they'd even flinch). I went in large group, and stayed one night at one end of our trip, and two...
