Great location , clean and well equipped. The only thing to note was that we had to call for the shuttle service from the airport and it did take a while to arrive. Other than that we would definitely recommend the Holiday Inn and use again in the future .

My goodness, this is an IHG hotel,and boy what a disgraceful place to stay. Staff are so rude and abrasive. Lacking in any help at all. We endured two nights here due to flight changes and its been the worst experience. We were placed in a ground floor room initially, disabled room that is, even though one was not requested. Went back to reception and asked to be moved onto the second floor. Very rudely front office staff stated we would have to wait until check in at 2pm even though others who came after us were given rooms immediately. This hotel is basic to say the least. They way "sustainability" is branded about within Costa Rica, this hotel is a complete mockery to the words. Everything is in single use plastic covers, in room plastic cups in the bathroom, single use paper coffee cups, at breakfast single use cutlery, single use paper bowls, single use plates, everything goes into the trash. I mean everything is single use. There is no on site restaurant, they tell you to go to Denny's, opposite, and fail to say there is a chicken restaurant at the front or a restaurant in the casino. One needs to look around. There is no where to have pre dinner drinks at the hotel, lucky if they even have hot water to get a cup of tea, if there are any teabags at all, and no milk. only creamer. Staff are very very lax. The room is comfortable, bed large and it is clean. Thats where to good ends. The pool seems ok but when we went down no towels were available. Old fashioned ice machines on both floors as no fridges offered, just a small ice bucket to cool drinks. Do it yourself Laundry facilities are available at a cost for detergents. Would i recommend or return to this hotel. Never. I would stay closer into the city so we could walk to restaurants etc. This is two nights we will never get back. …

Stayed here the first and last nights of our 13 day trip. It was comfortable, clean, and convenient and the perfect place to lay our heads. The breakfast was adequate, but the fresh fruit offerings were the star. The server was happy to prepare mangoes and show us how to eat the local fruit like the granadilla, star apple, and water apple, just to name a few. The shuttle to and from the airport ran like clockwork. Denny’s next door was a bit expensive and the Chicken place across the way was just ok.

We arrived much earlier than anticipated and the staff were very accommodating and gave us a room at about 11:00am. The room was very nice- spotlessly clean and well maintained. There is a Denny's and a Rosti Pollos restaurant as well as a sports bar inside the neighboring casino. Hint- best option is Rosti hands down. Shuttle service to the airport was great. We needed to leave at 5:00am and there was no problem. Pool area was nice, though pool towels were not readily available. There is nothing negative to say about the stay at the Holiday Inn Express though some may not like the roar of plane engines so close.

Stayed here during my last day in Costa Rica before going back home. It was very convenient to find a place to stay right in front of the airport because I didn’t want to deal with traffic and delays before my flight. The shuttle service to the airport was a plus! The staff is very welcoming and attentive. The facilities are clean and the room was nice and comfortable. If you get hungry there is Denny's right in front of the hotel and also a Casino with a bar if you feel like getting a drink. Breakfast could be better but it was acceptable. Now there is one thing you should consider if you going to stay here, the hotel is located very, very close to the airport so the planes departing can be felt inside the rooms. I didn't mind and slept very well.

This hotel is perfect for an airport hotel but the breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Easy shuttle to airport and very close to San Jose. Parking next to hotel. Walls a little thin but if it’s just a night you’re staying or works out just fine.

We stayed here on two separate occasions on the same trip ... Dec 24, 2022 and Jan 4, 2023. On each occasion we had early flights from the airports in San Jose. In terms of location, it's about a 7 minute shuttle ride from the airport to the hotel (or vice versa). The staff is very friendly, warm, welcoming and accommodating. Check in is very quick especially if you have an advance reservation. The rooms are spacious, comfortable with lots of light ... both natural and lighting. The bed (ours was a king) was very comfortable and afforded a very good night's sleep. The a/c makes the temperature more comfortable on those hot and sticky nights. For food, there is a Denny's ... which serves good basic food. The hotel will give you a 10% discount coupon. The food is just like what you'd find in any Denny's ... nothing special but satisfies your hunger. The staff is friendly and helpful. The shuttle service to and from the airport is fast and convenient. Takes about 10 minutes each way. The drivers are friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this hotel if you need to stay close to either the domestic or international airports.…

Great stay after a late arrival at SJO. Our room was clean and quiet. Continental breakfast was good. Staff was friendly. Didn’t use the pool but it looked nice. I am not sure how the shuttle works exactly… we walked to the shuttle area and a man in a blue vest that said “can I help you? Tour Guide services” asked if we were going to the Sheraton. I said no, holiday inn, and he called the van for us. I was worried we were getting scammed or he would put me in a non-HI van, but indeed the HI van showed up 5 min later and the blue vest man explained that he works for tips (and we did tip him as we appreciated the quick van service. Who knows, maybe it was already on the way, but we were grateful).

Once you arrive at the airport, you must go to the arrivals area and right in front of Malinche restaurant you can get our shuttle service. Our driver stops for guests in this area every 20 minutes. If you have access to call us at (506) 2443-0043 we can send you the shuttle immediately in order to pick you up. Coming off a 12 hour flight, we needed a hotel to stay in close to the airport to sleep off the jet lag, the holiday inn express was a perfect choice. It is located right next to a business park that is home to most of the major car rental brands in costa rica including the one we used. There is a free shuttle bus that comes from the airport, they all stop pretty much in the same place and come every 15 minutes, we called the hotel when we arrived and they very kindly arranged for a shuttle bus to come pick us up immediately and it literally appeared 5 minutes later. The building is quite dated, sometimes (and in this case) this is a sign that the rooms are more spacious since consumers 20-30 years ago refused to be accommodated in shoeboxes, the hotel itself is well maintained, the rooms were extremely clean. Generally when you think holiday inn in Europe you normally associate it with a bed and breakfast level of quality but this is closer to a 4 star in terms of quality and service. The other plus side is the TV in the room was great, the wifi was free and you could stream your own content extremely easily to the TV in your room (and not random other people's rooms as sometimes happens). The breakfast in the hotel was a bit limited in terms of range, but there is a huge denny's right across the road so who would not go there for pancakes!…

But also, we apologize if our breakfast service wasn’t what you expected. Our food and beverage staff strive to offer the best and most varied options. They always incorporate local typical dishes (like tamales, gallo pinto, fried ripe plantains among others) and more traditional breakfast staples such as eggs (scrambled, friend, omelettes, etc.), breakfast sausages, hash browns, french toasts and waffles. They always offer fresh fruits (tropical and seasonal), different types of cereals, dried fruits and nuts, yogurts, pastries, assorted breads, cheeses and cold curts and marmalades. Our drinks include fresh fruit juices, teas, hot chocolate and off course, a great selection of coffee varieties from Costa Rica. We would really appreciate if you could let us know what you would like us to include or change in the breakfast selection.
