The Highlights: Extensive pools and hot springs Wonderful pool bar with a good lunch menu Beautiful hotel grounds Some other notes: The restaurant was just OK. Wish there were more kid-friendly options. Got very busy our first night (big school group occupied half the seats) and staff were friendly but clearly over-worked. Breakfast selections were nearly identical each morning, so they might get boring after a few days. Rooms are a bit worn and dated , but were very comfortable and most have great views of the jungle and volcano. The star of this place is definitely the pools. If you have kids, they will love the waterslides. There was always plenty of seating, each pool has a different temperature, and I loved the fact that some pools had shade.
Los Lagos exceeded my expectations. I was surprised how huge our room was, and the grounds were gorgeous. We had a wonderful view of Arenal Volcano once the clouds lifted. The food was excellent, and we enjoyed the pool and hot springs. We also were able to book a couple of nice tours and were picked up right at the front office. The people were very friendly, and I was impressed by their ability to speak English so well. We had a great visit!
After dinner we made our way to Hotel Los Lagos: Arenal Volcano Resort & Spa in La Fortuna where we would call home for the next couple of nights. Check into the hotel was smooth and simple. Our room was a little dated, but the beds were very comfortable, and the air conditioning worked great. There is a large pool area that has one pool that is cool and refreshing. This side had 2 waterslides that we all enjoyed; the other side had a naturally heated spring fed pool with a bar. Both areas were spectacular. Just above the pool there are several naturally fed hot spring sitting pools, These were extremely busy late in the afternoon but as the evening got later, they became quieter and gave the guests an opportunity to sit in the warm waters under the stars as the night set in. Each morning at this hotel we got up early because of excursions. This gave me an opportunity to look East and watch the sun come up over the mountains while listening to the wildlife that lives around the resort before we enjoyed the breakfast buffet at the hotel that was delicious. This hotel is a little drive outside of the downtown area so if you do not have a car or transportation this hotel may not be the best option. …
The grounds are beautiful and so much to do that you really need more then a couple of days. Our room was very comfortable but unfortunately the seal around the tub was loose and the floor was flooded. The room was comfortable but really needed an update. The bathtub had a stool you could use but it was still very difficult to use. The grounds are very steep but there is a shuttle that takes you around making everything easily accessible. The shuttle does not go to the observatory, and it's a great 20-30 min hike each way going uphill then returning downhill. There were many hot springs and you could pick which temperature best suited you. One of the hot spring pools had a walk up bar. Wish I could have stayed longer.
We really enjoyed our 4-night stay. The staff are super friendly and helpful and the hot pools and grounds are amazing. There was ample selection on breakfast buffet (included with our stay) and the other meals/beverages we had on-site were were tasty and for the most part reasonably priced. We enjoyed the pools at all times of the day and they were never particularly busy. Our room was spacious and the very bed comfortable. The bathroom was funky but functional. I would have liked a sofa/chair/small table in the room - somewhere to sit besides the bed; there was definitely space. The front patio did have chairs and a beautiful view of the volcano. It was a great spot to enjoy a morning coffee and listen to the birds and tropical rain showers. You would benefit from having a car here - it's a $10+ taxi ride to town. Although not a super far distance to walk (and there are restaurants/shops along the way), the roadway are not designed for pedestrians. Don't miss strolling through the gardens (with ponds), and butterfly garden.…
Los Lagos has a deservedly great reputation for its Thermal Pools and one acre of jungle hiking trails. Our large, comfortable room was right across the road from a water slide that went into one of the 10 thermal pools. The pools are all sizes and varying temperatures. You can choose from a large one with a bar to secluded 2 person pools with built in shelves. Colorful birds flew right nearby as we sipped on delicious fresh tropical fruit juices in the dining room. On a clear day you can see the volcano the next mountain over or else drive or walk up a steep 3/4 mile road to an observation 'deck' that is directly across from the top quarter of the volcano. The hotel is about 20 minutes from La Fortuna along a good road. Once at the hotel there are plenty of touring and taxi options available to the nearby sites and towns if you don't have a car. Make sure to reserve in advance if you want a full spa treatment. …
This resort is lovely with many hot pools and beautiful grounds. Our room was spacious with a roomy deck. They have a great recycling project. The meals we had at the restaurant were very good. The staff was friendly and those at the front desk were very helpful. I hope to go back. There were a couple of small negatives for me. The pillows were very hard, so hard I slept on a decorative pillow. That being said, my husband didn’t mind them. As the bedroom was so large I’d have like a garbage can. The only one was in the bathroom. A bar fridge would also be nice. There’s certainly room for one. The other inconvenience is that it is out of town and there is not much in the immediate vicinity. If you don’t have a car, a taxi is required to get to La Fortuna. The ride one way is about $12.00 USD and we had a taxi in 10 minutes after the front desk ordered us one.…
Our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children ages 13, 11 and 8 yrs) recently stayed at Los Lagos for 4 nights. We would recommend Los Lagos to anyone travelling to the La Fortuna area. We thoroughly enjoyed the many pools of various temperatures that are heated by the volcano - the 2 water slides are fun however we were disappointed to see that they had closed a few and allowed vegetation to grow over them - the buffet was very good : it had a good amount of varieties and options - the volcano look out at the top provides a wonderful view and is worth walking or driving up to the look out point - the location is close to a large selection of delicious Sodas and restaurants - and has very nice grounds and staff. The shower water in the rooms was incredible - we never ran out of hot water - our room easily accommodated the 5 of us as it had 2 double beds and a good sized pull out couch. Unfortunately we didn’t see much wildlife at the hotel - a few lizards was about it. Our only complaint was that periodically two of the hot springs had a funny odour coming from them - not sure what caused this to happened or subside.…
Exceptional Property in the midst of the rain forest. Great breakfast, thermal pools, beautiful grounds Nice staff. We awoke to the sounds of the rainforest and exceptional flora. Transportation around hotel Was very good. Will stay there again and recommend it highly
We stayed 3 nights in a Volcano view room, with breakfast - very impressed. The room was great, close to the pools and reception so definitely worth the added cost. Really enjoyed all the facilities at the resort, springs and pools were fantastic. The pool bar was slightly understaffed at times which made it hard to get a drink, but it was generally just at peak times. Buffet breakfast was delicious, with a wide variety of options to fill you up for any planned day trips. Not too far from town or local restaurants, we got a taxi out two nights and it wasn’t too expensive. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would love to go back one day.
