We booked volcano lodge last minute when our previous hotel could not find our reservation, and it turned out to be a great decision! Manrique at the front desk was super welcoming and helpful in checking us in and also in booking us a room for an extra night because we liked it so much. He was also a great resource for tours and activities around the area. The grounds were safe , fun , and family friendly, and relaxing in the pools was a great bonus.
Made a last minute, same day reservation with booking.com (it was $100 cheaper than booking directly with the hotel). Staff in the lobby were great. Room was outdated and dark, smelled musty. The bathroom smelled of sewer. Stayed for one night and was not able to take advantage of all the property's features, but it was surrounded with lots of greenery, flowers, and birds. The breakfast buffet was good. The main paths leading to the rooms are a little rough, so keep that in mind if you're pulling luggage. I didn't ask, nor was I offered, to be shuttled within the property, so not sure if that service is provided. I didn’t like that you have to wear a wrist band and exchange tickets to receive pool towels, but that’s just me.
What a great property. Everything was amazing, very friendly staff, clean rooms with great views of the volcano, food and drink selection was great. Tons of excursions you can book right at the property, anything we needed they delivered from getting a taxi to extra towels. The thermal springs right at the resort was the best, after doing some hikes it was so amazing to come back to the hotel and get in to the water water to relax and have a drink ! I will most definitely be back for future stays and recommend this hotel to everyone. Pura Vida !
Stayed here on our last night in Costa Rica as we wanted to relax with a spa day. We booked the room with a private pool and were so happy with it! There was also champagne, beer, and snacks waiting for us which was a total surprise. We enjoyed the pools across the afternoon, which were mostly lukewarm, not really hot. Easy to order drinks at the swim up bar. The three tired rock pool by the restaurant was the hottest, with each tier getting hotter. That was heaven. The restaurant had good food with vegan options but service was a little slow. We booked transport to SJO airport via the hotel and that went smoothly. Overall it was a fine place to spend out final night in Costa Rica!
We stayed here for only 1 night sadly, as part of a tour of Costa Rica. On arrival, we were lucky to see 3 sloths in the trees at entrance to hotel, up in trees. A mother and baby, plus another adult sloth. You are given orange wristbands to wear signifying that you can drink and food to rooms. Food was lovely with the best breakfast of our tour, so far. Bedrooms are a good size with large picture windows on to grounds, a fridge, safe and a good bathroom. Grounds are large with a wide selection of pools, including several thermal ones. Pool towels provided. Wish we could have stayed longer.
The grounds are well maintained and the place is spotless. While the staff were great, our waiters; Robert, Ronny, and Ariel were superb. They were so friendly and kind. It’s was as if we were old friends. I’ll miss seeing their warm welcome. Plus, Robert & Ronny make a fantastic banana flambé!
I never leave reviews, but this hotel deserves one. It’s hard to pick a hotel when you’ve never been to La Fortunsa, so I picked what they considered a “mid-level” hotel. I was shocked when we arrived! I would consider this a luxury hotel! The pictures don’t do it justice! The staff were very friendly, the room gorgeous & spotless. We had a view of the volcano from our room. The food was amazing, the grounds immaculate, the pools divine and the drinks amazing! It was 10/10 perfection and I am so so picky! I hope to come back soon!
My husband and I enjoyed the natural surroundings- we spent hours birdwatching on the grounds. A wonderful variety of species. The natural flora was well cared for making the grounds breathtaking. The pool was clean and inviting. The staff was extremely helpful and pleasant. The food was amazing. It’s central location made connecting to our adventure trips so accessible.
Great welcoming and friendly staff. The resort has plenty of jungle foliage and gorgeous birds. Comfortable rooms with rear patio that opens to green areas with trees and birds. Mineral springs were delightful and relaxing. On site restaurant has breakfast buffet that was included and very ample. The food service for lunch and dinner was excellent. Good location for enjoying tourist activities at Arenal
Recently stayed as a family of four. The rooms are clean but outdated. The staff was friendly and attentive. Of course, the major attraction is the thermal springs. The breakfast buffet was very good. Overall, We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere of the location.
