We had a wonderful stay at Villa 6 of Bahia Pez Vela. It was such an easy, beautiful, relaxing, exciting, and reasonably priced getaway. We will definitely go back again.
We got off to a great start, the community is close to the Liberia airport which was small and easily managed. After a short drive, we reached the manicured, monitored entrance, drove a short ways through the lush grounds, and arrived at Villa 6.
The villa was super comfortable and had all the comforts of home - bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living room were all great. The back patio is a highlight, with abundant palm trees and local greenery and birds all around, a view of the water and the sound of gentle waves on the private beach.
The two-level pool, restaurant, and beach were beautiful and an easy walk from the condo. The decking was surrounded by comfortable lounges and tables. The beach was striking and always quiet. We so enjoyed strolling to the far end, wading in the warm water, watching for birds and fish.
Coco was close by and lots of fun. We enjoyed several local restaurants of different price ranges, all had great food and ambiance. We’re not into souvenir shopping, but there’s plenty to choose from if you are.
One highlight was the nearby adventure park where we enjoyed zip-lining, tubing, thermal pools and hiking.
Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

We stayed at Pez Vela for 4 nights. While it’s located about a 10-12 minute car/taxi ride from Coco, once you arrive you don’t have to leave.
The property has numerous private villas spread out through the mountain, all facing the ocean. Near the restaurant Maracuya, there is also 3 joined pools (including 1 Infiniti pool) and a beach area.
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They’re happy to help anything you need.
It was just 2 of us and we had an excellent time, however I would recommend this more for groups, bigger families or 2 couples because the villas are the size of a house with multiple rooms, bathrooms, full kitchens and a decent amount of space to spread out. It’s also bit outside of town so if you don’t have a car, it’s easier to just stay on the property which was also fine by us. We had a few issues with taxi’s charging us all sorts of different prices for trips and we’re reluctant to get into them towards the end of our trip. They’re not unsafe, however there are drivers that want to take advantaged. The trip from Pez Vela to town is $10, if you’re lucky to find an Uber available It’ll cost you about half of that, which we really preferred. We learned it’s better to confirm the prices of taxi’s as you’re getting in so it’s clear on what the cost will be.
The villas are very clean, although you’ll want to bring all the essentials you’d need in an Airbnb type of stay - any food/coffee you want to prepare, soap/toiletries for the bathrooms and laundry detergent if you’d like to wash clothes.
Cesar and Abi at the office are very helpful, we really trusted them to guide us and they didn’t disappoint.

Fantastic 20 days. Unit 17 is beautifully decorated and maintained in excellent condition. I believe that most units are the same design, but 17 is much prettier and more vibrant inside than others we’ve perked at. The water is drinkable from the faucet, AC & ceiling fans maintain perfect temperature, comfy beds and linens. Loved it!! The resort facilities, grounds, and pools are kept in immaculate condition. Cesar & his fellow office personnel provide exceptional concierge services. For example: The dive boat picked us up from & dropped us back at the resort, and the COVID-19 testers came to our door for less $$ than anywhere else. Smiles, excellent service, and friendly greetings made us feel like part of the family instead of just guests passing through. The private cove and black sand beach are beautiful and uncrowded. Colorful fish abound near the rocky points in the bay. The ocean water is always a bit murky when snorkeling, but still worth the effort. The infinity pool and lap pool are my favorites! The Maracuya restaurant (onsite) is delightful and serves such good food that you could eat there e dry day. We look forward to our next visit.

House #23 is beautiful and well laid out. It has a scenic swimming pool which we used daily. The kitchen is big and newly renovated. There are 2.5 bathrooms which is very practical for larger families. Two of the three bedrooms have views of the ocean, and the primary has a balcony as well. The nearby restaurant serves many good entrees and the staff is attentive. Snorkeling at the private beach is worthwhile. The office staff is very helpful and are able to set up excursions. Thanks Caesar and Abby for providing local knowledge of the area. Being 10 min away from the nice town of Coco was a bonus.

Peaceful and secluded resort on sparkling black sand beach near Playa del Coco. Outstanding staff, kudos to Abi and Cesar in the office - they coordinated everything for us (airport transport, car rental and tours). All were seamless and made for a perfect vacation. We stayed in Villa 5, newly renovated and close to community pool (we always could get a chaise), restaurant and beach (to address previous poster, yes, anyone can access beach as all beaches public, as they should be so everyone can enjoy. We never felt beach area was crowded.) Restaurant onsite is fabulous ! Some nights they offer live music. Cocktails are divine and we had some of best meals there. Thanks to Heisson and Lizette (as well as chef, bartender and rest of staff) who took good care of us. They put their whole heart into being gracious hosts and it shows. Heard the howler monkeys and saw an ant eater, many beautiful birds and a coati (?) on the property. Yoga overlooking the beach with Simone (for small fee) was a fantastic way to kick off vacay! Good snorkeling off to right on beach around the rocky shore. About 15 minute drive to Playa del Coco for outing or dinner and 5 minute drive to Father Roosters. Yes, driving on the narrow roads is not for the faint of heart with bicyclists, pedestrians, dogs wandering about…but that’s part of the experience. Secured entrance gate and roaming security gave us peace of mind. Pure Vida !!

We loved our stay here. The home was beautiful, and had a lovely ocean view. The office made many arrangements for us, including restaurant reservations, tours, and transportation. Everyone was very hospitable and helpful. The black beach is beautiful, and the beachside pools are gorgeous. The recently reopened poolside SoLuna Beach Bistro, there, has fantastic food! Freddy was particularly attentive, making sure everyone in the family was offered food, ice cream, or beverage. It seemed that his joy came from making us happy to be there. We definitely recommend this spot for a relaxing holiday!

Bahia Pez Vela ("Sailfish Bay") is a beautiful gated resort on the beach in the Guanacaste area of Costa Rica. We stayed in one of the 3 bedroom condos, it had a covered deck and a small pool. The condo was very well stocked with everything we needed for cooking meals. There is a nice restaurant and swimming pool on the grounds. We enjoyed walking on the black sand beach and exploring the tide pools in the lava rocks at low tide. At night we went to the beach to watch the Hermit crabs and the Halloween crabs. There are areas for snorkeling on both ends of the beach, gear can be rented at the office. We saw lots of reef fish, a stingray, sea urchins, some coral, and a pretty sea weed. Kayaks and paddleboards are available for rent also.

Bahia Pez Vela is a pretty and secluded resort with terraces of townhomes that overlook a calm black sand beach.
The resort is a short drive from Playas del Coco so having a rental car is helpful. Driving in CR is part of the adventure, after all. We mixed exploring the region by car or boat with days at the resort. The concierge staff (always responsive and helpful) arranged transportation for nights on the town in Coco. $15-20 each way for a taxi.
The food and service at the Maracuya Beach Club (the resort’s bar and restaurant attached to the main pool) are exceptional. The bartender mixes terrific tropical cocktails. The staff is friendly and professional. We ate most of our meals there during our stay.
Our townhome was well-equipped and included its own pool. There was plenty of space for our family to spread out. Some of the townhomes have been updated more recently than others but ours was great nonetheless. The washer dryer was nice to have and it was so easy to get food and supplies at the Automercado in Coco.
Highly recommend.

Staying at this spacious condo was fantastic. Great air conditioning and easy layout makes this feel like a home away from home. I would highly recommend this for a great vacation rental. It’s walking distance to the main pool and ocean and is also remote enough to feel great privacy.

I took my four kids, just 5 of us, to Costa Rica for the first time, and we loved it. This place was recommended by a friend who had taken her family a few years earlier, and she was correct!! There is a quiet, clean, sunny beach (with shade trees nearby), pool, bar, restaurant and SUPs and kayaks to rent (inexpensively) all right there. I just read the many positive reviews, and I agree with all of them so I won't be too repetitive. Here are things that specifically stood out as they cannot always be expected. Our condo (#22) has everything you need to cook, and we cooked often. Sometimes you are left with odds at ends when you rent, but not here, our place had every utensil and pan we could need. There was even a sterio and good music/CD collection, some family games to play, and a cooler for cold drinks and snacks on the beach. The views of the private beach from I think ALL the condos are very good. I felt safe a secure within the complex, and also with the polite, charming, professional and excellent staff. Everything was very clean and well kept. Food at the restaurant was excellent, and served on time by happy kitchen workers (who we sometimes saw coming and going). It just has a happy atmosphere, from everyone. There was live music one night, a man and his daughter, who sang probably better than any live performance that I have ever seen in such a small setting. What a treat that was! Fresh Drinks are tasty and there is a good wine selection as well.

We stayed in one of the condos at the top and the walk is very steep. My husband and I exercise regularly and we were both winded by the time we walked up. It’s great exercise but not a pleasant walk back in the heat if you forgot your sunscreen.
It is a wonderful place for families. We took are teenage boys and chose this resort so we all could spread out and have privacy. It was amazing and Caesar, both at reception, and Caesar in the restaurant made our stay even better. We were not on the beach but one tier up and there were villas with private pools. The villa next to ours was a family with younger children. The beach is pretty private which is nice.

Probably not a good choice for a person with mobility issues. Lots of stairs everywhere and no easy access to the beach. There a plenty of full services resorts in Costa Rica that might be a better fit for your party.
"Your experience will vary depending on which villa rent. But the whole place is quiet, peaceful and really clean and relaxing. A great base camp for daily adventures!"
