We stayed here our first night in Costa Rica. It was about an hour and a half drive from the Liberia airport. This is a family run hotel and they were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean, the beds are comfortable and the included breakfast was delicious! You are about a five minute walk to the beach/marina and a delicious restaurant called Pleamars which has the best Mojitos ever! The grocery store is right next to the hotel. Would definitely recommend this place!

Cute place with large rooms and powerful AC. It’s kind of in the middle of nowhere, though. It’s about a 10 minute walk to Play Potrero. It’s easiest to get a taxi (or rent a car) to get around to Playa Flamingo or Playa Brasilito. A taxi was 2-3mil each way.

Really cute little hotel with nice pool and well kept gardens. Room was also spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was nice and fresh and the staff were friendly and welcoming. There’s also a super cute cat who loves a cuddle and a tickle.

Nice little hotel, located close to all the beaches, Potrero, Flamingo, Conchal, Tamarindo, great service and place is very well kept. We had a blast and were able to go to all beaches since it is close to every one. The breakfast was great!

We were there before christmas and the hotel was not fully booked. The beach is pretty close and was nearly empty. Hotel was good and clean. Good shower and big bed which was comfy.
Owners are speaking spanish and only a bit english. But you will get along with them quite good. Nice to stay there. Beach restaurants were nice and good.

Felt uncomfortable the whole time I was here..not a good bive here. First the rooms are small ,beds not comfortable small beds..room not that clean this place looks more like a motel 6 but worst. Pool is filthy with hairs and nasty..i notice right away I made a mistake by staying here..i choose this small hotel to give a try..real cheap price you get what you pay for, also you only get 1 towel per person and that's all you get..the worst part is here...this place is full of local people cause of the price ..also the kids that are staying here from other tenants are ghetto kids ,,screaming like crazy at all hours ..specially at pool am talking annoying screaming ..and they wake up to the pool since early hours till night..for them thus place is a resort..you been warned..if you don't mind been MIX with ghetto people ..then go ahead and book here..goid thing I only use this place to sleep.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, the grounds were park-like. Great breakfast served next to the sparking pool. Wifi signal was inconsistent. Rooms were very large. Centrally located to many beaches, store and restaurants. Great value for price.

The Guanacasta Lodge put us smack in the middle of the most wonderful beaches in Costa Rica. The Lodge itself had a GREAT swimming pool and the rooms were comfortable. They served breakfast that was simple but included in the price. Attached to the hotel/motel was a GREAT restaurant and their food was Excellent.

My wife and I usually "go big" when we are on vacation. Instead, this time we wanted to stay at a place that is operated and visited by the locals. While it did not have all the amenities of a resort or hotel, it was very peaceful and the management and staff were very kind, gracious and helpful. The second night of our stay my wife had a minor medical emergency. Being unfamiliar with the area and having poor Spanish speaking skills, I wasn't sure what could be done. The lodge management jumped into action by contacting transportation and a urgent care clinic, where my wife received the care she needed. They waited up for us to return in the middle of the night as the were truly concerned about our situation. Not only did the Lodge management and staff save our vacation, they continued to go above and beyond expectations for the remainder of the week. Thank You Guanacaste Lodge!

We are a retired couple of modest means, so the price was definitely affordable (+) We arrived in a rental SUV from San Jose and drove past the entrance to the hotel. It seems a local lawyer had erected his street sign partially obstructing the hotel's entrance sign, so we eventually figured it out (-) The hotel's parking lot was extremely bare-bones, almost no shade for the visitors, but well-tented for two cars probably belonging to the management (-)

Since our visit was in late March, the temperatures we experienced were around 100 F. at midday (-) So the heat became a factor in all our activities. The pool area and surrounding landscaping were 1st class; pool water was wonderfully clean and refreshing (+) but every morning there was a class from a scuba school using the pool for their instruction all morning, every morning and occupying the entire pool (-) Breakfast was beans and rice, scrambled eggs, toast, fruit and coffee. Every day. No variation allowed. Large birds insistently swooped down onto our food when we were off-guard to pilfer our eggs or toast(+?-)

The A/C in our room was barely up to the job. The hotel economized wherever possible, so the A/C was only turned on upon our arrival, at which time the room had already become stifling hot, and there was scant way to conveniently air it out. The first night was hellish (- -) We had to plead with management to allow us to keep the A/C running when we left the premises, as it was their policy to turn the unit off when the maid made up the room, around 10 AM to Noon.

The room itself was spacious and quiet(+) The bathroom was ample, but no shelves for our toilet articles (-) There was good and plentiful hot water, sometimes an iffy commodity in other comparable lodgings at the price (+) There was no stopper to make filling the sink possible (-) We improvised, a skill which we recommend as a substitute for complaining when traveling abroad. The beds…ah, the beds: Very Spartan bunkhouse. Same for the pillows. And the blanket? Nonexistent, of course. Who needs a blanket when sleep as such will only be occurring in heat (- -)

WiFi is offered free of charge, but reception is iffy, not so much from the hotel itself but I suspect from a source beyond, so that Internet cuts in and out on a fairly regular basis. And our room was just remote enough from the modem so that we only got the smallest wave of the WiFi icon (+?-)

The family that oversees the hotel, who may also be the owners, couldn't be nicer. They seem always eager to serve, and did on several occasions help us out of reservation mixups with our reservations at our next venue. And they non-verbally let us know that they wished it could be better for all their guests (+++)

So there it is, our review. Add up the + and - and you will understand why the mixed review.
