Tripadvisor gives a Travellers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travellers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.
Few vacation destinations offer the stunning natural beauty of Costa Rica, where vast stretches of white-sand beach give way to lush tropical forest and misty mountain peaks, and where whale watching, marlin fishing, zip-lining, snorkeling, orchid hunting and sunbathing are tempting diversions. Now you can own a piece of this paradise. Ideally located steps from the ocean on Playa Flamingo, The Palms is a beautiful privately-owned luxury villa community that combines the benefits of home ownership with the amenities, pampering service and conveniences of a resort hotel.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
We stayed here as a VRBO (we reviewed the townhouse there - incredible), but here we are reviewing the grounds, location and staff where are also all amazing! There is a bar on site to get freshmade drinks and just adjacent is a restaurant that is great that will deliver to your room or you can walk there for dinner. The Palms will also create private waterfront dining for you if asked. We were greeted by staff as we enter and then given a personal tour of our vrbo townhouse. At one point, I couldn't figure out the lockbox, so they immediately sent someone over to help. The grounds are keep pristine and the pool is so relaxing. This was a wonderful trip with a beautiful sunset each night!

We rented Casa Chocolate thru Airbnb and everything went great. Carlos’s villa was fantastic and he is an excellent host! The unit was extremely comfortable and clean. The kitchen had all high-end appliances and every imaginable item you would need to cook anything. You could have daily maid service if you liked or less often if desired. The onsite staff was very helpful if you needed anything. The grounds are very beautiful and the infinity pool looking out over the beach & ocean was great. The crescent shaped beach faced due west and provided fantastic sunsets, a great place to walk, and warm refreshing water with great waves. We drove to the grocery store and picked up food and drinks. We ate most breakfasts & lunches at the villa and ventured out for dinner. You can just walk down the beach or road to Coco Loco next door which has excellent food in a casual setting. The new marina is close by with several other excellent restaurants. We highly recommend staying at Casa Chocolate!

A fabulous, relaxing, top-notch property and villa supported by wonderful, friendly, and responsive staff. There is no property like this in Playa Flamingo. Communication and planning pre-arrival by the concierge were excellent. It was the beginning of the "off" or rainy season and not crowded (which we enjoyed). The ocean water was clean, clear and warm, and very swimmable and the two pools on the property were a nice option. Security was present all day and eve. Some owners kicked off remodeling projects, etc, which made for some noise but that's to be expected during off-season. We will definitely return to the Palms!

Beach is lovely. Palm's service is very good. Our villa was overall good with some minor issues (horribly loud toilet flushing and screaching, shower that didin't work well, security camera outside in parking lot with no shades on front bathrooms or kitchen windows..felt a little creepy). Note master bedroom huge but second bedroom is small and the loft is a joke (how can anyone safely use that?) We were quite surprised though that the other guests were somewhat low grade- in behavior and appearance...seemed like they should be staying at Margaritaville. Pool was very nice but guests drinking in pool and standing in it all day. Heard young kid tell her mom she just peed in pool and her mom just shushed her instead of getting her out of pool. Yuck. The property itself is quite nice but I'd think again before picking this spot.

When watching the Costa Rican sunset, with a cocktail in hand, in the Infiniti edge pool, that seems to be the question that you first asked another guest you saw. It’s a gem of a property and feels like a slice of heaven—like it’s a secret that you kinda don’t want anyone to know about.. It’s quiet, secluded and exclusive. Only 32 privately owned units, some of which are available through rental program. We have been twice with our family and hope to return again soon. Covid: no test to get in, only test to get out. We had our test on thurs for our mon departure. The concierge there arranged it all. Doc to the door, printing out results, etc. The concierge is there to also book dinners, excursions (private sunset abs snorkel tour is the best), dinner on beach, etc. They also have an on premises outdoor massages for $50 an hour—best massage ever.

Private and Quiet. This condo is lovely with great amenities and well equipped kitchen. The two levels provided a much nicer view from upstairs, where we mostly were out on the veranda. Pro: Clean and tasteful. Con: The units are apparently becoming dated, and we had no water in the one shower at a few points. A/C in master was spotty. Ice Machine was somewhat non functional. Beach: Fabulous and at he end of the public beach so really private. Soft white sand and easy waves. Con: Very much an older crowd, and the place has little "vibe'. It is close enough to town to go get vibe, but basically without a car, we were trapped in a retirement village. Pro: We could mind our own business and not be bothered. But is began to get a bit monotonous. We really missed the boat on the rental car situation, which apparently you have to order like a year in advance. Con: We asked what time we should be out on our check out date, which was a Thursday. Being told that a new set of guests were coming in, we obliged an early check out. But then we were told that no guests were coming and we should just cancel our hotel (til Saturday because of flight options being limited), and stay there.Like it was a no brainer! However it was too late to cancel without losing our money. That deadline was a week earlier. Had we been aware of this at a more appropriate time we might have just stayed and then we would have made sure we stocked up on more food to cook in another night or two. But no car, no way out and no knowledge of this change in availability left us with no choice. Con: communication with the staff and Owner is difficult unless you have "Whats App" on your phone. Advice if you go: Plan a rental car for sure. And be ready with books and headphones. No music allowed by the pool. And if you like to work out in a gym, this one is perfect, for two or less people at one time. It is a bit dated as well, but worked for us and was a way to keep a little busier. Pro: Get the massage. Ask for Vanessa. The Best at $60!

The Palms is a low key, easy going, group of villas side by side on the south part of Playa Flamingo. Beautiful sunsets and the white sand beach right in front of the villas - what else do you want? The accommodation is a bit dated, but it’s very well equipped. There’s even a comunal BBQ.

Beautiful, serene setting with spectacular views and unparalleled access to a gorgeous beach. Modern, comfortable, well-equipped luxury condos. The water was wonderfully warm, in both the ocean and the pool. The staff were kind and helpful. Would definitely go back.

There is a smaller round pool further back from the beach that is adult only. The larger pool is for everyone, with a bar in between them that is open until sunset. .
There is a grocery store within walking distance (they also will have liquor). Within Playa Flamingo there are a few places, I would have the transportation stop there on the way to the lodging however, so you can stock up on the way there. Then you can top up at the closer location.
There are also a number of restaurants within walking distance at the end of the beach. We took the walk each evening, Coco Loco is within a very short walk on the beach and had nice food as well. Worked for watching the sunset with a beverage and food in hand!
We loved it there, enjoy!!
There are more places to choose from in the Playa Flamingo area.
