RipJack Inn can also help you arrange all of your activiites including sailing, golfing, diving, sport fishin and much more. We are located just one hour from the Liberia International Airport (LIR) or 20 minutes from the Tamarindo Airport (domestic). Playa Grande is a laid back quiet beach town.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
I just hosted a yoga and wellness retreat at the Rip Jack Inn and it was an incredible experience! The staff were the absolute best--from the people at reception, to the restaurant and house and grounds keeping. The location is idyllic too; nestled amongst trees, with monkeys swinging overhead, and only a 1 minute walk to a pristine beach. There are two spaces to practice yoga, and both are impeccably maintained and come with all of the supplies one needs to practice. And the food at the restaurant was great! I could go on on and about how perfect it was... I'll definitely be back!!

Great out-of-the-way inn. A surfer’s paradise. Walk from your room to a foot trail leading to the beach with the best beach break in the world. Come back to eat delicious food in the TreeTop Restaurant and relax at the pool before heading to the room with super comfortable bedding to recover from and rest up for your next ocean adventure.

We enjoyed our stay at RipJack in Playa Grande. We are a family of 4 with 2 teen boys (16 & 18). We booked a standard room for them and my husband and I had a Luxury Queen. The rooms were comfortable, with nice linens and supportive matresses. The showers are large, and have shampoo, conditioner and body soap provided. They refresh towels daily. The hotel is right on the beach, and has aluminum beach chairs that can be rented for $7/ day or $35 for the week. I think it would be nice if the chairs were just included with the room. The restaurant is amazing, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My boys room was right under the restaurant, but they said it wan't noisy at all. The restaurant closed by 10 pm. We are early risers, and there is coffee available by the pool as well as in your room. It was nice to sit by the pool and listen to the birds early in the morning. We spent a lot of time on the beach, and the hotel arranged a surf lesson for the boys. We walked to Tamarindo one day and took the ferry boat over, which was fun. Also did an excursion to La Leona waterfall which I highly recommend. I was able to take advantage of the beautiful yoga studio on site, but did not do any group classes, as the times did not fit with our other plans. Overall, this was an awesome trip and I highly recommend RipJack if you will be traveling to Playa Grande.

We loved this place! We stayed in the bungalow for four nights and had plenty of room and great AC. There is a water dispenser by the pool so no need to buy water, which was much appreciated. The beds were comfy too. The staff is very helpful. Angie coordinated the turtle tour and estuary tours for us and answered all our questions. Everyone working here seemed friendly and helpful. We were so impressed with the restaurant! The food at breakfast was great and the grilled mahi-mahi was amazingly fresh every time. Lua was our server everyday and was so sweet. Excellent service! This is a place we will definitely return to. We love finding special, small places like this. It makes traveling so much more enjoyable.

19 years ago we came to Costa Rica for our honeymoon. One of the places we stayed was the Rip Jack Inn in playa grande …a great little boutique hotel right next to the most amazing 3 mile long beach. We had never been to Costa Rica and chose it based on their website. We met and got to know the owners during that first visit and truly enjoyed 5 days there.
We came down again in 2007 for a friend’s wedding but had not been back to CR/the Rip Jack until last week.
The Rip Jack has expanded from like 8-10 rooms and no pool to 25 rooms and two pools (the owners had just bought it the same year we came down 19 years ago) but what has not changed is the incredible location, wonderful hospitality and the upstairs bar/restaurant that serves the most delicious food and drinks.
We can’t recommend this place enough.

Great week long family stay at Rip Jack. Close to the main break at Grande for those who surf and/ or want to chill on the beach. The staff here truly exude Pura Vida and treat you like family. The restaurant is very good with many options for breakfast lunch and dinner. It is a bit pricy for Costa Rica but the quality of their food is exceptional. The entire restaurant staff are focused on making your dining experience memorable and exceed expectations on delivery of such. Front desk staff are much the same with being helpful and simply lovely. Good family vibes location, couples or for the solo traveler which is not easy to pull off in other lodging options. Happy employees = good vibes & service, nice job owners! We will definitely stay here again.

My husband and I along with our 17 year old daughter spent 7 nights here during Thanksgiving week. We fell in love with this location. The hotel is safe, clean and quiet. We loved the close proximity to the beach. Our days consisted of breakfast at the hotel restaurant, beach in the morning, lunch and pool in the afternoon, and back to the beach for more play in the waves and to watch the sunset....and then back to the hotel restaurant for dinner. The food was SO amazing at the restaurant we could find no reason to go anywhere else. (Twice we walked up to La Huerta, which was also good.) The service at both the hotel and the restaurant was professional and very friendly. The hotel arranged transport to and from the airport for us, and also arranged surf lessons. The vacation for us was strictly for relaxation, so we didn't engage in many activities, which is exactly what we wanted. We fell in love with Playa Grande and RipJack! Thank you!

The Rip Jack Inn is by far the best place to stay in Playa Grande. The owner's and staff work tirelessly to make sure everyone is having the best possible stay and it shows. I have been to Rip Jack three times and cannot wait to get back. The location is directly across from the beach where you can enjoy the sunset or surf it's world class break. The restaurant is a must not only is the food amazing the whole atmosphere makes you feel like you are always having a meal with friends. If I could give more stars I would!! I would recommend Rip Jack Inn to everyone the place is truly top notch.

It was our first time to Costa Rica and completely fell in love with Playa Grande. The Ripjack inn has a fantastic location, delicious food, great yoga and surf options- and a super helpful front desk to assist you in planning your excursions. Staff was super friendly, and the rooms were clean- we are already planning a trip back for next year!

Warning! I’m a little bias because I’ve known the owner since the early 90s. Quality people running this place and they do whatever possible to make people’s stays here as wonderful as possible.
Yoga, Surfing, ATV and Horseback tours, zip line, and other excursions can all be booked through the reception desk.
The world famous surfing beach is 75 yards away. There are a couple of swimming pools. Lots of yoga retreats happen here.
A HUGE plus is the restaurant. Fantastic food and atmosphere at very reasonable prices.
Rooms, suites and villas are comfortable, with most amenities you’d expect except NO microwaves and that’s by design.
This is a fabulous boutique hotel to relax and a great base of operations to explore the surrounding areas.

Hi Erik,
We loved that Ripjack Inn was a quieter location. Tamarindo was way to busy for us. But we did have a car, so went to Tamarindo for lunch one day, and Play Avellenas one day as well. RipJack is great for beach and surfing time, and long walks, walk to local restaurants and pool time, etc. which we were happy with most days. If looking for nightlife or music, it's probably not your place. Tamarindo was about 35-40 minute drive, but apparently there is usually a boat taxi for a shorter trip (5-10 minutes). We didn't look into that so I don't know if and how it runs right now.
Hi! The Liberia airport is about a one hour drive from the hotel. You could rent a car, the drive is very easy, if you like you can download an app called waze for directions, it is very good for driving in Costa Rica. There are also driving directions you can print out on our website. We recommend Adobe Rental Car.
If you prefer we are happy to arrange a shuttle to pick you up, the cost is $80. For this we would just need your flight information. Once you are at the hotel if you decide you would like a rental car we can have one brought to RipJack for you.
Please let me know if I can provide any additional information!
Hi, yes you can surf right in front of our hotel. We are 75 meters from the beach. We can arrange for surf board rentals from our local surf shop frijoles locos. They will bring the boards right to the hotel for you. Would you like to make a reservation?
There are more places to choose from in the Playa Grande area.
