Nestled on a serene beachfront, Hotel Bosque Del Mar Playa Hermosa is a haven for guests seeking tranquility and direct ocean access, with many travelers lauding the secluded ambiance. The staff's friendly and attentive service often receives high marks, although there have been occasional mentions of inconsistency.
While the rooms and grounds are celebrated for their cleanliness and comfort, some guests note the hotel's higher price point and the rooms' functional and privacy concerns. The amenities, including a spa and tours, are well-regarded, despite the modest pool size and limited bathroom storage.

A rare boutique beauty on a quiet beach. With jungle-like grounds leading right up to the sand. It’s bigger than the condos or other small local hotels, but smaller than the corporate resorts and all inclusives which are off by themselves. Staff and locals were very nice and there is an on-site restaurant, spa, and tour options (expect to pay US prices, which are 1.5-2x more than some of the other local options). Even in the “slow” season, there were 3-5 local restaurants open within walking distance with good food available. A couple of walkable mini markets as well for snacks and drinks to stock your hotel mini fridge with. The hotel can call a cab or van for you but can be expensive, so be sure to ask for the price up front (there is no free airport shuttle, and I was shocked by the price they quoted after I’d already taken the ride). It was conveniently located near the Liberia Airport and most tours in the area will pick you up on site. Overall a beautiful hotel and would stay here again!

As senior travelers, my friend and I wanted to avoid the more overcrowded "hot spots" on the Guanacaste coast. We were advised to check out Playa Hermosa and Hotel Bosque del Mar by a friend of my sister's who has stayed there often. Great advice. The hotel sits right on the beach, and although the beach itself is public, there are lounge chairs reserved for the hotel and we saw only a few locals on their daily stroll plus a few beach hawkers. The views from the beach are lovely, and beckon guests to just relax and enjoy. Supposedly there are monkeys that inhabit the trees on the beach although we didn't see any. We had hoped to do at least one of the posted activities (evening sunset cruise) but sadly it wasn't available when we wanted to book it. The rooms are quite lovely, and out rooms on the second floor had great balconies as well as all the modern amenities one would want. We indulged in happy hour, which was nice, and ate dinner one night. Breakfast seemed to us overpriced and not terribly good so we sought out a cafe on our departure day instead.

A tucked away and serene location with rainforest vibes yet open ocean is only a few steps away. The beach is a great walk and the ocean is perfect for swimming. For food, we had breakfast included and all choices were good. The civiche with tigers milk is a must have.
Tips: watch for monkey poop on the path. There is an outdoor shower station for foot or body wash.
Pack bug spray for your feet. Lots of small buggy stuff. We weren't sure if they're sand fleas or ants or noseeums. Do not use sparkly and perfume ladden body creams or sprays. The bugs love it.
Tap water is drinkable.

If you happen to get booked in room 705 , decline it at the front desk and ask for another room away from the hustle and bustle. If you want to sit on your terrace for morning coffee or after a day on the beach or touring, the only view from your terrace is of the lobby, restaurant, bar and foot path that EVERY guest coming and going to their room must traverse. You will also have a lovely view of the shower where people clean their feet when returning from the beach. And it’s not just hotel guests, it seem that other tourists are permitted to use these showers at anytime they choose as they cut through the property from the public beach on the way back to their condo rentals. Had some clearly intoxicated folks there last night. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Room itself was spacious but not quiet at all.

We stayed for 3 nights upon arrival to Costa Rica LIR Airport. It was a perfect size, ambiance, location, etc. for our short stay before heading to La Fortuna. Loved our large suite room with view to the interior of all the trees and shrubs. Staff were constantly cleaning the area. Entire facilities were very clean. Never saw any monkeys although one morning I could hear them early about 4:30am but not again so missed seeing them. If you are looking for a big chain hotel, large pool area to spend hours instead of enjoying the perfect beach area, then this is not a place for you. I relaxed 1 day by pool area before heading to relax on a chaise lounge at the beach. The location right off the beach was perfect and we enjoyed walking and relaxing at Playa Hermosa. Not as crowded also as the Coco Playa area, much more calming. Staff were very accommodating and always willing to help. We had breakfast included each morning which was part of our package. You select one entree from menu with coffee and juice so right amount of food for us (no buffet). We had two dinners there also and enjoyed each very much. So glad we stayed at this hotel with its unique structure and location.

This hotel made you feel you were staying in a treehouse on the beach. Floor to ceiling windows, very spacious rooms, very clean, beautifully decorated. Felt very luxurious. The pool was small but surrounded by vegetation, monkeys often walked in the trees above you. The food in the restaurant was nicely presented and very tasty. Lounges were available for free on the black sand beach, there was lots of shade. Bryan Arvar at reception told us about a snorkeling and catamaran tour right off the beach that was well worth the money and he was very helpful in making that booking. Thank you Bryan. The waves were often very intense so be aware of them, they will tumble you. Overall a very enjoyable stay and would highly recommend.

Beautiful hotel complex with direct beach access, small pool, open restaurant and bar concept. The rooms were clean and the staff tried to be friendly. The loungers on the beach were freely accessible including pool towels. You could book various activities such as kyak, jet skiing or trips to Arenal and Rio Celeste. The food was average and the bar menu was very clear. The prices were top class. Maybe it was because of the hotel's prominent location, but the price-performance ratio is not even close to right here.

We spent the last 3 nights of our amazing Costa Rica trip in this beautiful hotel. Nice facility, very friendly staff, good restaurant. The only criticism: when we were able to move into the room, the air conditioning was set to the lowest possible temperature and it was freezing cold in the room. After we turned it off, all the rooms were damp, even wet - it was running down the walls because it was so hot outside. Please cool the room a bit - if it's 32 degrees outside, it shouldn't be below 25 degrees inside

This is a wonderful resort. The service and amenities are first class. The food in the restaurant was also good and tables were available. The beach is kept very clean and food / beverage service provided. The location is less crowded and very few beach vendors. The spa was excellent and the hotel has a driver available to shuttle you to excursions and touring. Management made sure we had whatever we needed. If you are looking for the party-like atmosphere of Coco than this is not your place. Very relaxing, quiet, and peaceful. We will be back!

Comfortable Hotel with great staff and located on a quiet, broad sandy beach. Playa Hermosa is certainly a quiet paradise compared with some other Guanacaste beaches (we checked some of them with our rented car), and this Hotel is likely the best on Hermosa.
So if you want a peaceful vacation to enjoy/swim in the ocean and relax on a tropical sandy beach with a nice cocktail - this is your choice. If you want parties all day and night long - you may want to go to Tamarindo :)

Hola! There are many options around, fast food or "sodas" are cheaper but have basic options. There you will also find fine restaurants with international menus.
We snorkeled in front of the resort, walking in from the beach and swim to your left. We were in HUGE schools of fish. It was amazing. I wish that I would have brought a GoPro to film it! There is not much for coral to look at, but hopefully you will have an experience like we did.

Sure, there are a couple of small places beach front that you can reach walking on the sand. Walking on the street you will also find a pizza place, and two supermarkets.
All of that less than a mile away.
There are more places to choose from in the Playa Hermosa area.
