Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort is applauded for its pristine beachfront locale and varied pools, which guests have frequently highlighted as the resort's most redeeming qualities. While the resort's cleanliness receives commendation, issues with housekeeping service have not gone unnoticed. The atmosphere, though scenic, is sometimes marred by noise and aging decor. Service experiences vary, with some guests encountering unresponsive staff, overshadowing the praised personal touches and breakfast offerings. Room conditions often disappoint, criticized for being outdated and uncomfortable. Travelers also question the resort's value, finding it overpriced considering their overall experience.

We had a wonderful stay at Diria! The setting is gorgeous with a great swimming beach. We found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating, and it was easy to book excursions. My very favorite experience was yoga every day with Banessa, who is a beautiful soul that offers morning and sunset yoga - highly recommend! The massages on the beach were inexpensive, but I preferred the massage through Diria with experienced masseuses that really knew what they were doing. We went ATVing which was really fun since it had rained the night before - don't wear anything that you care about! We also did a zipline tour which was fun. Due to the location, anything else would have been a full day excursion and we didn't want to spend half the day in a van to go see an animal sanctuary. We met a few couples that raved about La Fortuna, and my recommendation would be to spend a few days there and then a few days at Diria for different experiences. The breakfast at Diria was fantastic with a wide variety of options - not just a banana and yogurt! We found the food to be very good and reasonably priced (as are the drinks), and appreciated that there were a number of restaurants to choose from that we could charge to our room. Highly recommend the gelato next door to top off your meal! The rooms were a little small, and despite being at the end on the top floor we found it to be a little noisy with the housekeeping closet right outside our door. Bed was firm but comfortable, pillows a little too full and stiff for our liking. All in all we would recommend.

It is a beautiful beach resort with several restaurants with different cuisines and a boulevard with shops. It has two wings separated by road and we had our room in second wing (not the main wing) which is secured but access to this building is dusty and once you enter the building and is quite a walk to reach the room and has no elevator. Room is decent with pool view is nice but tight.

Enjoyed swimming in the pool and has a tour desk. We signed up for surf lessons and kids really had fun, felt little pricey probably should have shopped outside the resort and also used their spa. Complimentary breakfast is served which was awesome with several choices of omelettes, pancake. Waffle, cereal, fruit, bread. Hashbrowns etc. gourmet coffee was also provided. But the beach view is great becoz of this i am giving 1 extra point.

We had lunch and dinners at their beachfront restaurant Barisa Mar it’s ok taste wise nothing really stood out. Beacuse of beachfront location and nice breeze we ended up eating there than the taste 😀

Stayed two nights while on Gate 1 tour, se were across the road from the beach but it was no issue as they had a guard to assist. This is a very large resort and I believe we were in the Luna section which is very close to a pool and a bar and another pool and swim up bar were close by on our side of the road. Room was small but for two nights it was fine and enjoyed the beach side with plenty of chars and hour massage on beach for $30 was good. Food at restaurant was very good and we had no issues
and there are small bars/restaurants in walking distance they we visited and had lunch and some Imperial Light. I enjoyed my stay and would consider this area for future trip and a nice change from crowded Mexico oceanfront resorts.

Tamarindo Diria is a beautiful resort. Right in downtown Tamarindo and within walking distance to restaurants shopping and directly on the beach. The resort is clean, the breakfast was perfect and the staff are super friendly. We will definitely return to The Diria.

Our first room had a public walkway less than 10 feet in front of our big picture window with the ocean view. We couldn’t see the view because we had to keep the curtains closed for privacy. Front desk staff were extremely rude insisting that the room WAS private and that I was just FEELING it wasn’t private, even though a couple had walked by and looked in after being there only five minutes. He also insisted that there was a chair in the room which there wasn’t. He told me there should be tissues in the room, which there weren’t. When I asked the cleaning lady for tissues, she brought me a little pack with nine tissues in it. I had to ask her for another one for my husband, so we each had nine tissues. The bathroom had a light/fan fixture, which when you put the light on, the extremely loud fan automatically went on. It was so loud that we could not leave the light on in the bathroom during the night for safe access. We were moved to a room. After a very long, wait the next day, and many trips to the front desk, we finally got into a different room, on the second level, which was bigger, had a chair and offered privacy. The resort itself had other annoyances, such as having to wear a plastic wristband 24 /seven to bed, in the shower, etc. They also only would give you one towel to use at the pool or the beach and if you did not return that towel you were going to be charged $20. The breakfast had a lot of different options, but there were often long lines to wait for your eggs. The options were the same every day and we were there for three nights. we have stayed at three resorts in other parts of Costa Rica and all three were wonderful experiences. Unfortunately, we were ending our trip in Tamarindo and it was one of the worst stays we’ve ever had.

We regret that you felt uncomfortable in your initial room. However, your reservation was moved the day after your arrival, as we did not have immediate availability for a change at the time of your check-in. That said, we did fulfill your request as soon as possible. Regarding the wristband, it is required to identify our guests and ensure a safe environment, especially given our central location and easy access to the hotel. As for breakfast, we offer a buffet with a variety of options available daily.

When booking a stay at a 4 star resort you’d export more. At first we had a room across the street from the beach that better resembled a motel than a luxury stay. Bed was hard as a rock, toilet didn’t flush, room gave a vibe of dirty and outdated.

Customer service at the hotel gets a 2/10. We brought our concerns to the front desk who *not exaggerating* laughed in our faces. We ended up upgrading to a room on the beach side of the resort.

The new room was much much nicer. However, multiple days the cleaning staff did not refill our bath mats, hand towels, towels, etc.

The only redeeming quality of this resort is its beachfront location and location in the middle of town. HOWEVER, this hotel does not offer beachfront access. If you walk out to the beach from the hotel, there are rocks surrounding the shore in +/- 200 yards in each direction. So if you can’t swim in the ocean in front of the hotel, promoting direct beach access is disingenuous.

Also, the pool/beach towels they give out (and charge $20 for if you don’t return in a timeline to their liking) are heavy, are a magnet for sand, cheap and ineffective.

Breakfast is fine. Takes forever to get a drink once you order it, food kind of sucks.

Get an Airbnb in tamarindo, don’t waste your money.

Thank you for the review. We don't usually get such bad reviews, but when we do, we take them very seriously. We are very sorry to hear that your experience wasn't to your liking. However, the insults and poor language that you use in your review are out of any serious consideration from us or from any traveler. We accept that, as a human organization, we can make mistakes, but we also deserve respect and feedback in a constructive way instead of insulting our staff and hotel, which is one of the insigne hotels in Costa Rica. Your words discredit yourself. We wish you a happy new year.

This is a really nice hotel but totally out of place amongst all the surf bars and shops of Diria Beach. Its main reception and bar area are on the beach side of the road with the main pool and adult pool across the road. We stayed on the beach side in one of the sunset rooms and it was a really nice room , very modern and spacious with a large balcony. We were fortunate enough to not have a room overlooking the bar area as they didn't have the greatest view (the sunsets here are amazing but better viewed from the beach). The pool area on this side is quite a large area with lots of sunbeds stretching out onto the lawns but can get a little rowdy with families. The beach is OK but it is a public beach and the area directly outside the hotel is a little rocky so you will have to walk towards the estuary end of the beach if you want to go in he sea without the risk of hitting the rocks. We preferred to go over the road and use the adult pool as it was much more relaxing and had its own swim up bar. The hotel grounds are well kept and do have a very tropical feel to them especially when you hear the howler monkeys arrive !! The breakfast was good with lots on offer including cooked options if you didn't mind waiting the extra half hour for that section of the restaurant to open. There are several restaurants within the hotel but we never ate there as they all were quite pricey and all overlooked the main road through the resort which can get very busy (be careful crossing the road as not everyone stops for pedestrians on a zebra crossing). We always went out to eat and there is lots of variety all within easy walking distance of the hotel, the best value were the open air food markets - El Mercadito was our favourite.

If you want to stay somewhere with modern day comforts but with easy access to surf dude nightlife then this is the place for you.

Tamarindo Diria Hotel Review:

Pros:

Breakfast: The breakfast offered at Tamarindo Diria Hotel is a highlight, featuring a variety of delicious options in a beautiful setting.
Stunning Location of Dining Room: The dining room's location provides a scenic view, enhancing the dining experience.
Three Beautiful Pools: The hotel boasts three picturesque pools, offering guests different atmospheres for relaxation and enjoyment.

Cons:

Small Rooms: Unfortunately, the rooms at Tamarindo Diria Hotel are notably small, potentially limiting comfort for guests.
Cleanliness Issues: There have been concerns about cleanliness, with reports of mold found in the fridge, which is a significant drawback for guests seeking a hygienic environment.
Poor Customer Service: The most significant detractor from the experience is the lack of friendly and efficient staff. The check-in process involves long waits in line, and rooms aren't ready on time, with no apology or attempt to rectify the inconvenience.

Overall Experience:
While Tamarindo Diria Hotel offers some positive aspects such as a delightful breakfast and beautiful pool areas, the lack of customer service and unfriendly staff significantly dampen the overall experience. The small room sizes, cleanliness issues, and particularly the disappointing service create a less than satisfactory stay for guests. Enhancements in staff training and service efficiency are crucial for improving guest satisfaction and the hotel's reputation.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate your positive remarks about our breakfast and beautiful pool areas. However, we are genuinely surprised by the concerns raised in your review: our records indicate no recent stays matching the details you provided; but we have found you are a visitor to Tamarindo Beach since 2017, however, we do not have records as a register guest at our hotel. We take cleanliness seriously, regularly inspecting and maintaining our rooms to ensure a hygienic environment. Our dedicated staff is committed to providing exceptional service, and any deviation from this standard is thoroughly addressed. We would like to investigate your experience further, but unfortunately, without specific details about your stay, it's challenging for us to pinpoint and rectify the issues you've raised. We encourage you to reach out to our management directly with more information so that we can address your concerns comprehensively. Our goal is to provide a memorable and positive experience for all our guests, and we are committed to resolving any issues that may have occurred during the stay. Thank you for your understanding.

We have stayed at this resort numerous times over the years, and I am sad to say this was our most disappointing and final stay. Before we even arrived, I reached out via email and phone call to request a transfer from Liberia airport, but I never received a response. This should have been an omen…

We paid for a sunset ocean view room with king bed. We were the last room on the third floor with no elevator. When I tried to move rooms as my husband has difficulty with stairs, the only options were ground floor, which offered no privacy from other guests on the lawn, or a double room in the other building. There was no ice machine in our building, and when I called the front desk to ask where to get ice, I was told to go to the bar with no offer of bringing some to the room, thus requiring multiple trips to the bar for ice during our stay.

As noted in other reviews, the water was cool to lukewarm at best and the bathroom amenities were embarrassingly lacking for a 4-star resort, really no hair conditioner or lotion?! The inside shower door was broken. Our bathroom towels were never properly replaced, missing washcloths, bath mat, etc., so each day we had to track down housekeeping for these items. Beach towels are limited to one per person, and you have to beg and plead for a second towel. The bed was quite hard and sleeping was difficult after the third night.

I spoke to the front desk upon arrival about the room location and I responded to a guest services email at the beginning of our stay as well, yet I never received any response. I realize many of these issues are small, but I consider them unacceptable when paying over $300 per night.

The hotel has a prime location and the grounds are beautiful. The staff do a great job of keeping the public areas clean. The food is very good and we enjoyed the restaurant for multiple meals. With that said, the rooms are just not worth the price, therefore we will not be returning to Tamarindo Diria.

Dear Chris: While we appreciate your loyalty over the years, we would also like to express our disbelief regarding the damaging comments made about your recent visit to our property. When visiting a resort and having certain needs that need to be met, it is fundamental to communicate those requirements prior to your arrival to ensure that all factors have been taken into consideration when assigning the room for your stay - such as mobility issues or any other aspect that could enhance each individual's experience. The timely communication of any malfunction or lack of service gives us the opportunity to act purposefully towards the best solution in the best interest of our guests; not sharing these issues leaves us very little to no room for change. We are very grateful for your visit and hope you will allow us to personalize your next vacation with us chrislH7793TH. Sincerely.

The rooms and building is old and cracked in bathrooms. Towels have threads hanging out and none of them are same size . Cleaning service is poor with no washing coffee mugs , refill any of the coffee or tea bags , No conditioner or body lotion provided in rooms , cleaning service do not refill or replace any shampoo or towels.
The breakfast quality is bad and not flavorful at all, the flies are all around the fruits in breakfast area and nobody cares to cover for guests to eat . Overall it’s bad experience considering it’s 4 star and in prime area of tamarindo. I shall not recommend this resort at all.

There are no gluten free breads that I know of but there are plenty of other options like Gallo Pinto, the traditional rice & beans for breakfast or the Arroz con Pollo for lunch or dinner, one of our favorites. We are also gluten free and didn’t even notice. Costa Rican food typically doesn’t include too much gluten anyway.
