Less than five minutes walk to the beach and about 10 minutes into the centre of town (although part of the way doesn't have pavements so might feel a bit riskier to walk after dark for the more timid!) - or a very cheap Uber.
Nice pool and poolside area with a bar, wet bar and amazing view.
We only had breakfast - there were around five choices from a menu rather than buffet; they were no more than fine.
Room was clean and comfortable with a nice bathroom and balcony. Despite the central location the rooms are all set far back from the road so it was quiet and felt safe.
There is a laundry service but they advised we use someone in town as it was cheaper and they helped us organize it all.

The breakfast buffet is excellent!! Henry makes sure there is always fresh fruit eggs French toast cheese coffee juice , etc. The waitresses are all very friendly ! Maricruz is awesome! She always makes sure everything is fantastic and treats us like family! This is our second year here. We heard the price is going double next year. Hopefully not or we will have to find another place.

This location is outside of the busy downtown, which if you’re looking for something a bit quieter, it works well. The pool, poolside bar, and ample seating around the pool are a great way to relax after a day of surfing. They also have one of the best bartenders, Andreas, slinging drinks and ensuring lots of laughs.

All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast in the morning is also quite good.

Be aware, the hotel bar turns into a club on Fridays. It’s a lot of fun if you’re looking for that, but it is noisy in all rooms until 2:30am. Sundays also have a pool party which can be very noisy as well.

Very happy with our accommodations for our vacation!

Hotel below expectations, would require a total renovation, both of the external parts and of the rooms. Restaurant service was not available during our stay (except for breakfast). Positive elements: the gym and the swimming pool and the kindness and helpfulness of the staff who allowed us a free upgrade of the room, having initially been given a room in a sort of damp and dark semi-basement. Another plus: the hotel supports the Salty Sols surf school, an excellent experience.

First thing I want to mention is the employees there were amazing! They were all so nice and professional. I give their customer service 5 stars. Their breakfast was delicious and the room I stayed in was cute. Now the reason why I give it a 3 star is because the first few hour I got there I decided I wanted to shower since its really humid and I was sweating all day I needed to rinse off. We’ll the warm water was completely off. I don’t know if there is a certain time of the day the hot water is shut off or lot I decided not to ask and didn’t shower. Also something I notice after a few hours I smelt something that was faint but wasn’t strong. While I was getting ready to go to the beach the smell got worse and I notice it started to smell like poop. I understand that the sewer system is not the greatest and I understand and respect that. I go to Mexico every year and their see system is the same. I’m used to this and I’ve been to Costa Rica 3 times already. Well this smell was not coming from the bathroom. I tried to ignore it since I didn’t know where it was coming from. While I was getting ready to do my hair I grabbed my hair brush from my wife’s backpack that was sitting on the chair and when I bent over the smell was so strong. It was coming from the couch and I immediately felt uncomfortable. The smell got worse through out the night and was so unbearable I was up at 6:30 am and needed to leave the room. I know I could of mentioned all of this to the staff but I was already exhausted I had been in Costa Rica a week already and it was just one night. I still had a full week ahead of me in Tamarindo. It wasn’t too bad just would go their again.

The staff at the Best Western. We're very kind and helpful and would go out of the way to make sure you had everything you needed. The hotel this set high up on the hill and gives you a wonderful view of the ocean and the town. If you do not want to swim in the ocean, they have a pool with seat at the bar and music every Friday night.

The hotel has a nice pool with a swim up bar. Not many lounge chairs per se but there is other seating including shaded areas. The breakfast was very good - there is a choice of 5 options. Parking was easy and secure. Surfboards and boogie boards are free for guest use. Our room had a balcony with a nice view of the ocean. Shower worked well, lots of hot water. Wifi was good. Air con was good. Cable TV had lots of channels but no english ones (tip: make sure tv input set to Cable TV). Frig and safe in room. Staff was very friendly.

The room was on the small side and the bed was right against the wall making it awkward to get in and out. Pillows were terrible. Because the room faced the road, there was some noise so maybe not the best if you're a light sleeper (there are rooms at the back). The hotel is up on a hill (equivalent to maybe 2-3 flights of stairs) so you have to walk up - take this into consideration if you have mobility issues. Short walk to restaurants and the beach.

There is a big party every Friday night from 9 pm to 2:30 am. Hotel guests do not pay the cover charge and there are free drinks from 9 pm to 11 pm. The event is noisy as there is a DJ and a live salsa band. You will here the music from your room so be aware if you are staying there on a Friday night.

it's sad that reading reviews from three years ago show the owners have little interest in improving, as things remain the same.
[ ] a hotel without a reception desk! for pities sake it's 2024 nearly. a hut by the entrance that looks like a security desk is poor.
the hotel advertises amenities they don't have...
a restaurant, nope a breakfast room
a laundry service, nope, I was advised to take laundry to a different hotel!!
and no 'golf cart' to assist with luggage up a steep hill to rooms...plus no lift to upper floors.
For breakfast, we were served what appeared to be a microwaved pre-cooked omelette, ok, but not the accompanying rice, which we wouldn't risk.
this could be a nice place if it was given some modernisation, and placed the reception in the upper car park, made it bigger, a proper reception (and tell them not to eat on duty).
I stay in hotels most weeks for work...I will never stay here again nor recommend it.
the only reason I gave it more than one star is the beds were comfortable and clean.

We stayed for Halloween in Tamarindo and this hotel was the perfect place to do so. It's around 10 minutes away from the main centre, which is perfect for a busy, loud period like Halloween. The staff were great, especially Andres, Egenia, Melissa, Josue and Hector who we could have a great laugh with. From breakfast to bar staff, they were great to chat to and made us feel welcome into the Costa Rican community.
We had an ocean view, I highly recommend this as looking out from the balcony at sunset is gorgeous.
Breakfast was great too - standard Costa Rican options consisting of eggs, rice and beans, plantain and a native cheese.
The Bar's prices were great too and the other guests in the hotel were always up for a chat which made it a great place to stay!
No complaints !

We spend a little over a month at the Best Western beginning in mid January for about the last 8 years. We have many reasons to keep returning to the hotel. The staff is so accommodating that they make our return each year seem like a family reunion. The management (owners) really appreciate and take special care of their employees and it really shows as everyone works hard and seem enjoy working. The hotel is located at the start of Tamarindo and just across the street from the ocean/bay/beach. The hotel supplies beach towels, surfboards, boggy boards, snorkeling and a few other beach items. We walk or Uber around and expect to walk a lot! The hotel does have a lot of steps as it is on a hill side overlooking the bay but in return you get great views. The hotel offers a free breakfast and you can sit and enjoy a great view. Breakfast is the only time the kitchen is open. There are a lot of places to eat very close to the hotel and the staff will be happy to help. The pool is very nice and the pool waterfall is kinda cool with a little purge pool at the top of the falls. There is a nice outdoor bar and swim up bar also and a large patio to relax on overlooking the bay. There is a Friday night party that draws a large number of people to dance to salsa music and techno music with laser lights. The party ends at 2:30 so take a nap and go check out what all the noise it’ll about. You get in free and drinks are included. This hotel I think gives you the overall best value inTamarindo.

They don’t provide a free shuttle. Go to Tamarindo shuttle on line and order one from them. Reliable service. $20 one way I think.
