Had a fabulous full day white water rafting with SOC The Sarapiqui river was spectacular, phenomenal and breathtaking. The ride although wild always felt safe The guide in the raft knew the river and the rapids - plus we were accompanied by two guides in kayaks for safety and advanced scouting. The food at lunch was deliciosa - especially the...

Brought 15 students and faculty for study abroad tour. Stayed two nights at this rustic and family run lodge. Great location and could hear local wildlife, especially birds. Even heard howler monkeys at night. The place is family run with excellent and very friendly service. The food was good and there was lots of room for all the students with...

Stayed one night at this rustic and family run lodge. Great location with trails surrounding it and abundant local wildlife, especially birds. The place is family run with excellent and very friendly service. The food was good and traditional. No A/C but the room was comfortable with the fan running. One glitch, water ran out by mid-evening! I rate this...

We stayed here for two nights. The hotel is clean and ground are looking fantastic. Diner is overpriced, nearby are some nice soda's. Breakfast is large and ok. Staff speaks very little English, so taking a Spanish course is a good idea. Very annoying however was the gardener who started his very noisy mowing every morning before 7AM!! And would...

Our stay at Gavilan was comfortable, and as birders, we appreciated the bird feeders and the trails to the river. We also took an early morning river trip - the boat comes to the hotel dock. It was a pleasant trip although we did not see as many birds as we would have liked. The breakfast and dinner were good...

Hidden away in the rainforest, this a a beautiful, well kept little lodge with around 16 rooms. Very simple (don't expect air con), and rooms very basic but with en suites. Lovely trails in the grounds , and spectacular birds come regularly to the feeder I the centre of the lawn. Good food provided from a limited menu. Felt we...

As keen birdwatchers this lodge suited our needs very well indeed. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and you are surrounded by the forest. There are several trails to explore and the bird life is prolific. We saw more species of birds here than we did at the much more upmarket Selve Verde Lodge which is about 5km away. Also...

Spent one night here as part of a tour. The bedroom was enormous, simple but clean and comfortable. Magnificent location, you feel as though you are actually in the forest, howler monkeys could be heard in the night (but I slept very well despite!) The gardens have the most glorious flowering shrubs. My husband spent all morning photographing them while...

Gavilan is a pretty older lodge set in the jungle. We were there in January and were comfortable even without air conditioning. The grounds are really pretty and the jungle is right outside your door. We saw and heard howler monkeys every day. The food was good and plentiful. The cooks were so nice and friendly...they came to our table...

The last night of our trip was at the Gavilan Lodge and we had a comfortable drive to the San Jose airport in the morning. It's simple, nothing fancy, but that let us enjoy the surrounding nature. During the afternoon walks we saw three sloths--the only ones on our entire trip--two red dart frogs and tons of birds. And the...
