We visited La Selva for an afternoon guided hike while staying nearby. Our guide, Octavio, was outstanding. He found all sorts of wildlife and birds including a boa, howler monkeys, agouti, great curassow, sun bittern and the great green macaw among many others. As avid hikers, we really enjoyed our visit here. It is not a strenuous hike but is...

The 3 hour jungle tour was wonderful. The guide was knowledgeable and could see and hear many creatures. Close up observations. Saw old growth trees, many birds, plants, and bugs. Loved the leaf cutters and frogs.

Me and my wife stayed for 3 nights. It started with lots of rain, but we stayed around long enough for the weather to get better. In both rain amd sunshine, we watched lots of animals (more birds than you can imagine, lizards, frogs, two species of sloths, howler monkeys). The accomodation is basic, but that is what we expected....

Great guided walk pointing out birds and mammals and of course leaf-cutter ants. We saw peccaries, frogs, monkeys, and lots of birds. The path was a flat walk through the forest making it easy for mom to get around.

Great three hour guided walk amongst their 4,000 acre secondary forest site. Lots of wildlife with plenty of bird life, frog life, interesting plants, bats, insects, butterflies etc. We even saw a yellow viper. Book in advance and highly recommended.

From my lodge I arrange a 6 AM birding hike where it was suggested that there are more birds than anywhere. Not that day! We saw few birds and no new ones for me. The guide was nice but not enthusiastic about showing be around. I understand that this can happen anywhere birding, but I was still disappointed in the...

We spent a fabulous full day of birdwatching (plus sloth, monkeys, peccaries, iguana) at La Selva. The biodiversity at this scientific center is fantastic. And our guide for the day, Octavio, showed us far more than we could have hoped to spot for ourselves. We saw motmot, tinamou, sun bittern and several other species that we saw nowhere else in...

My friend and I paid $30 each for entrance and a 3 hour tour of the station which we were really looking forward to-I had heard from many people (including colleagues at the wildlife travel company that I work for, which sends lots of clients here) that this research station would be one of the main highlights of our visit...

We were led around the grounds by Lenin Duarte but did not lodge at the station (It was $35USD each to get in to the reserve). We thoroughly enjoyed Lenin's expertise developed over 9 years at the station. We have some nice photos, especially of the Trogons, that we saw and are posted at my Flickr album. Visiting & touring...

Paved path through the woods - this was after our tour guide for Costa Rica scared us all into having super muddy shoes. We saw a lot of wildlife but strange because before we went out on the paved path a crew used blowers to clear the path of leaves, etc. I would not go back.
