My wife and I drove from San Jose and arrived at La Kukula with Peppo waiting for us when we walked up. Peppo and Sonia are the most gracious hosts and their staff go above and beyond to help in any way possible to make your stay perfect. We stayed for a week but it felt like two weeks because...

We stayed in the 3 bedroom villa with private pool and it was lovely. The vllla's balcony was great to sir and enjoy the evening. We watched monkeys after our swim in the afternoon and enjoyed the other animals. Sonia was very helpful in securing a rental car and bikes - we enjoyed our visit, the tasty breakfast and had...

My family and I recently spent a glorious week at La Kukula Lodge in Playa Chiquita. It was everything we hoped for in a Costa Rican vacation and way, way more. Our hosts, Pepo and Sonia, were wonderful and made every effort to make our first visit to the area a perfect one. And they succeeded. We had their two...

I travelled with my girlfriend from San José and arriving to Puerto Viejo,we took a cab to Playa chiquita and we arrived in 5 min. La Kukuka Lodge is a beautiful place sorrounded by nature and animals. Close to the beach and so quiet. Is the perfect place to disconnect from the stress of the city and restart. We saw...

Surrounded by the nature, this is a superb spot to stay. You feel like sleeping outside, but with a roof over your head. The staff and owners are superfriendly, they make you feel at home. Breakfast was tasty, didn't try the dinner because there are a lot of choices in Puerto Viejo. If you don't have a car, maybe it's...

Friendly welcome by Sonja. We had a nice spacious room with a hammock. Howler monkeys and sloths around us. Breakfast was good with different choices everyday. A place we would like to go back to and enjoy the surroundings. Thnx, Dylan & Sandra

It makes you very comfortable while feeling right in nature! It looks very simple and rustic, but look again: sophisticated design in practically every detail. You enjoy the sounds of night, the trees and plants, the animals you see, the wonderful air. I loved a small pool at night: while in the water, fireflies came and went. We got the...

Despite the growth of the Caribbean South of Costa Rica, la Kukula lodge has created a spot in which you feel the liveliness of nature all around. They have built a simple yet elegant accomodation that blends and respects the feeling of the Caribbean. Guatusas are very shy animals and they walk about undisturbed by people's presence. Very close to...

My boyfriend James and I loved our stay at the lodge! Being a huge animal lover I was in my element here, we saw plenty of sloths, frogs, monkeys and gorgeous butterflies all within the property. We stayed in the king suite and were really comfortable here, it was the perfect way to end a 5 week trip in paradise...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
La Kukula Lodge is situated in Playa Chiquita/ Puerto Viejo, next to Refugio de Vida Silvestre de Gandoca-Manzanillo and Cahuita N.P.Built in 2008, La Kukula Lodge follows the principles of sustainable architecture and only plantation wood (teak) has been used in its construction. With its tropical-contemporary style, the bungalows blend naturally with the wooded surroundings: an ideal location to enjoy the flora and fauna the region has to offer. A simple path system running through the garden links each bungalow, the “rancho-bar” and the swimming pool. There are only 8 rooms available, all are very spacious and airy, with their own deck, fans, bathrooms and hot water from a hybrid solar/electric system. All rooms have fantastic views from private terraces onto the sylvan garden. ... more   less
