My husband and I just got back from our 3 night stay at Hotel Banana Azul, and we absolutely loved it! The room, the food, the drinks, the staff...everything was great! We stayed in Breeze 1, and the upstairs patio with the hammocks was our favorite spot at night. Listening to all the bugs, birds, bats, and crashing waves was...

We just spent 3 nights at Hotel Banana Azul, and our only problem was that we had to leave! We stayed in the Red Frog room and it was wonderful. The private deck and plunge pool were such nice luxuries. As I have read in other reviews, the walls are pretty thin and we could hear every step and word...

I have been a client of Banana Azul since 2010 and have recommended both friends and coworkers to stay there. I recently made a reservation and it turns out some random travel code was applied to my reservation giving me a lower rate. A month later, when I tried to add a guest, I was made aware of the glitch...

You almost know for sure, that having to tell a customer that the price they were quoted was wrong and the actual price is higher, is never going to go over well. However, if I am shopping in a store and I go up the counter with an item and the price tag is wrong, they never have given it...

I actually don't know where to start, we loved our stay at Banana Azul so so much. We actually can't wait to return upon our next trip to Costa Rica. The location was brilliant, yet quiet. Only 5-10 mins taxi ride from the local town/restaurants and only15 mins away from Jaguar rescue centre. The room was on the ground floor...

Hi there. Thank you for the kind review. We aware that we have some areas that can be improved and we strive to get better each day. It is good that you mentioned the sound transference in the Tropical Bath Suite, as it can be a disturbance for some. For that reason, we even put a note on our website...

Didn't want to leave. It felt like home from the day of our arrival. Our two floor villa provided space, comfort and privacy. The overall property was picture perfect for the tropical setting. The friendly English speaking staff couldn't do enough for you. Well located - an easy, and safe drive into town for several excellent restaurants or to other...

Thank you for choosing us. The villas are a really special project for us, so it's great to hear positive feedback. We actually have some future plans to improve them even more. It's a secret for now, but maybe you will get to see it for yourself in the future! Cheers, Colin.

We loved our 3 nights in the Howler Suite at Banana Azul. The porch was a dream! Wish we could have stayed much longer so that we could have experienced more of the cute but vibrant town and the gorgeous surroundings. We're already planning our return trip!

Hi Lynn, I'm glad you enjoyed the Howler suite. It is definitely our most popular room, especially for couples. It was great having you and we hope to see you again soon. Cheers, Colin.

With a friend we stayed in this hotel, which was not our first choice! What a nice surprise to see the context, which is just splendid with a direct access to a beach that is still a bit rough. We were in a very spacious room with a view of the sea. The only downside is that the walls are...

Hola Julie. Thanks for your kind words despite our deficiencies. We are well aware of these and please know there is a plan to address them. Banana Azul started out basically as one step above a hostel 12 years ago. Thanks again and it will be our pleasure to host you all again. Cheers, Colin.

This hotel was absolutely gorgeous. The grounds, pool area, and beach were so beautiful. The service was outstanding and all the staff were extremely helpful and so kind. Food was also great. The rooms were also very beautiful and perfect for a simple yet clean and authentic hotel, not too big either. The Caribe Fun Tour desk onsite was also...

We booked this Hotel directly via email and were extremely satisfied with the quick response to the numerous questions that we asked during the months before we actually got onto a plane to start our vacation. We arrived in San Jose at 10:00 p.m. at night on Feb 28. We had prebooked a Hotel in San Jose and overnighted. We were...

First impressions were of the beauty of the grounds, restaurant and pool area. We certainly enjoyed watching the koi and several turtles who live in the water feature which runs the length of the restaurant area. Staff were all extremely friendly, hospitable and helpful. Our room was a short distance from the main building in the Casa los Brisas on...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Banana Azul hotel is a small and simple hotel north of town on Playa Negra. The small boutique hotel has been created with care using local products and a philosophy that emphasizes relaxation. We cater to adults, 16 years and over. Blooming gardens adorn the property, as does several freely-hanging hammocks, providing the perfect spot for afternoon napping or leisurely reading. A meandering pond inhabited by fish and turtles flows through portions of the property adding a lighter element to the ongoing natural soundtrack of waves crashing against the shoreline. The hotel consists of fourteen beautiful guest rooms with private baths, fans, and free wireless internet. Most rooms are on the second floor of the main building, and open onto a large veranda with sweeping ocean views and of the garden. Banana Azul offers its guests a quaint restaurant that serves a complimentary filling breakfast, variety of lunch options and refreshing drinks throughout the day and a relaxing three entre dinner option in a romantic atmosphere at night. Gecko Trail Adventures tour company is on site to assist with tours and transportation needs and can assist with a variety of package options including visits to the Arenal Volcano, canopy tours, snorkeling trips, and even rafting excursions. ... more   less
