This hotel is very well managed, you really get the feeling that the people that works there is really happy about their work. Tariq in the restaurant is a real star - very attentive and service minded. The food is the only reason the rating isn't five - the breakfast could be better. We stayed in one of the villas...

Hola Leni. Our new Villas have been a real hit with most guests. I am glad that overall you had a great stay. Sorry to hear we came up a bit short on food. I was wondering if you could take a moment to send me a message and tell us how you think we could have made breakfast better....

I just stayed at this lovely little 'resort' for 5 nights. It took a long time working with my travel agency (Pacific Trade Winds if I can get a plug in!) as they appeared intent on sending folks to the Pacific Coast as first choice. I wanted something less crowded, on the beach, and more 'bohemian'! Banana Azul has it...

Thanks for your comprehensive review. It's very helpful for other guests trying to determine whether we are a good fit for their vacation. Yes, for years we have struggled with travel agencies not suggesting the South Caribbean of Costa Rica for their vacation. On some levels, I understand their concern. Our area is unique and more undeveloped and while that...

My fiancé and I stayed in the Dolphin room in January. We were very comfortable, and we loved hearing the sounds of bird and animals at night. We were surprised at how quiet the other guests were since we were above the reception desk (and we slept with open doors). Mosquito nest was provided. I would recommend bringing bug spray....

Thanks for choosing Banana Azul for your vacation. I am glad that overall you had a great stay, but very sorry to hear you got tied up in traffic getting here. Yes, it happens from time to time and it can be very challenging. Yes, there are now 3 flights a day into Limon airport with a shuttle to the...

The hotel itself is simply lovely. There are a variety of rooms/bungles to cater for all needs and different budgets, breakfast (which is great) is included in the room rates. I booked the Tropical Suite which I knew maybe noisy during peak times due to it's location (being between the reception and restaurant). The room itself was amazing, there was...

We had the pleasure of staying at one of the villas and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The room was fantastic, with a thoughtful 2 story layout and private courtyard that included a splash pool and outdoor shower. As it rained for the first portion of our trip, we were very pleased with our choice and the space...

I can't say enough about how great the service was everywhere in or around the hotel. The breakfast was more than I expected fresh fruit and or hot options. The beef tenderloin was the best beef we've ever had in Central America. We stayed in two different rooms and had to use earplugs for some quality sleep because every day...

This area of Costa Rica is a little more difficult to get to, so your money goes much farther. We spent the same amount at each destination and our room here was magnificent in comparison. We stayed at the Banana Verde, a small condo complex opposite the hotel. It was roomy and modern, had excellent lighting, and offered a lot...

It's great to get such positive feedback from our guests about the new Banana Verde Villas. After listening to our customers at Banana Azul we realized that there was a real need for something a little more "upscale" on this coast, without sacrificing all the nature and wildness that makes it so unique. The outdoor(ish) shower, actually is one of...

Just arrived home following a weeks' stay at Banana Azul. Our first 4 nts were spent in the Red Frog Suite and the next three in the Howler Suite. We loved both rooms but Howler was our favorite. Red Frog has a great patio off the bedroom in addition to a great entryway patio/porch. We did not get much use...

I stayed with my boyfriend in October for 2 nights. It was the owners birthday so we were treated to a free beach BBQ, yummy drinks and great music! The location could not have been MORE perfect. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Banana Azul hotel is a small and simple hotel north of town on Playa Negra. The small boutique hotel has been created with care using local products and a philosophy that emphasizes relaxation. We cater to adults, 16 years and over. Blooming gardens adorn the property, as does several freely-hanging hammocks, providing the perfect spot for afternoon napping or leisurely reading. A meandering pond inhabited by fish and turtles flows through portions of the property adding a lighter element to the ongoing natural soundtrack of waves crashing against the shoreline. The hotel consists of fourteen beautiful guest rooms with private baths, fans, and free wireless internet. Most rooms are on the second floor of the main building, and open onto a large veranda with sweeping ocean views and of the garden. Banana Azul offers its guests a quaint restaurant that serves a complimentary filling breakfast, variety of lunch options and refreshing drinks throughout the day and a relaxing three entre dinner option in a romantic atmosphere at night. Gecko Trail Adventures tour company is on site to assist with tours and transportation needs and can assist with a variety of package options including visits to the Arenal Volcano, canopy tours, snorkeling trips, and even rafting excursions. ... more   less
