Our stay at banana azul was perfect. Service was the best we've had in Central America, they made sure we had everyone we needed. Great value and no hidden little extras, even laundry was very affordable. Only slight thing, need new pillows, but easy fix.

We always check Tripadvisor before booking our vacations. Banana Azul received great reviews, which are definitely deserved. This place is stunning as well as convenient to so many activities. Our family of four (daughters are 18 and 23) stayed in the Treehouse Apartment for 5 nights and loved it. Because it has a full kitchen, we were able to buy...

A very pleasant place to stay just outside Puerto Viejo. Located right on the beach, with a lot of rooms offering a beautiful Caribbean view. Big balconies equipped with hammocks offer a very tranquil setting. The only slight negative is that it is just over 1km to central Puerto Viejo but this really isn't much of a problem at all...

Hotel Banana Azul is definitely a beautiful hotel. Right on the beach, quaint decor, surrounded by nature. My only complaint with Banana Azul is GET SOME NEW PILLOWS! I am not one to complain, as I have stayed in a fair share of hotels and understand things aren't going to be perfect. But please! it was like sleeping on a...

I just love this hotel. We have been there several times in the last two years, and the place just keeps getting better. It really does have everything you could need. The bar mixes great drinks, the kitchen cooks up yummy food, and the included breakfast is delicious. Restaurant prices are exactly what you will find all over Costa Rica,...

Banana Azul is a great place to stay. I just left puerto veijo and could not have been happier with the accommodations and staff at puerto veijo. Make sure to rent a bike from them so you can explore the town and get their suggestions for places to eat and things to do. The beach is literally steps away and...

Just finishing up our 10 night stay here at Banana Azul. It's a shame to have to leave this beautiful place. The entire staff had been beyond exceptional, always smiling and and very caring, polite and courteous. The owner Colin, went out of his way daily to make sure we were happy and comfortable. Anna, Franco and Elmer were always...

The owner of Banana Azul, Colin, went out of his way to come up with a winning formula for running a highly-successful hotel and restaurant. The decor is well-done, the food extraordinary, the staff super friendly and attentive and the location right on the beach at Playa Negra is truly amazing. Their tour desk is operated by Gecko Trail Adventures...

My wife and I just spent 7 days at his hotel. hThe staff was friendly and gracious. The food was interesting and tasty. The service was just right, there but not obtrusive. The beach was close, with lounge chairs and hammocks and beach service. The room had an ocean view and was very airy. The owners were present and charming....

I recently took my first trip to Costa Rica and let Desafio Adventure Company handle booking all the hotel and activities for me so I wasn't sure what to expect... Banana Azul was awesome! Literally my favorite place out of the 3 places I stayed during my trip. It's such a cool place. Great food, cool little bar to get...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Banana Azul hotel is a small and simple hotel north of town on Playa Negra. The small boutique hotel has been created with care using local products and a philosophy that emphasizes relaxation. We cater to adults, 16 years and over. Blooming gardens adorn the property, as does several freely-hanging hammocks, providing the perfect spot for afternoon napping or leisurely reading. A meandering pond inhabited by fish and turtles flows through portions of the property adding a lighter element to the ongoing natural soundtrack of waves crashing against the shoreline. The hotel consists of fourteen beautiful guest rooms with private baths, fans, and free wireless internet. Most rooms are on the second floor of the main building, and open onto a large veranda with sweeping ocean views and of the garden. Banana Azul offers its guests a quaint restaurant that serves a complimentary filling breakfast, variety of lunch options and refreshing drinks throughout the day and a relaxing three entre dinner option in a romantic atmosphere at night. Gecko Trail Adventures tour company is on site to assist with tours and transportation needs and can assist with a variety of package options including visits to the Arenal Volcano, canopy tours, snorkeling trips, and even rafting excursions. ... more   less
