Tortuga Lodge is a paradise!. We flew in from San Jose in a small plane. Beautiful rooms, really recommend the rooms upstairs which have beautiful views and a large balcony, a lots of wildlife, and excellent food. Great staff, very helpful. The Gardens are beautiful and the back trails amazing. You feel like you are in paradise, this was an...

Dear jessicagilboa1, Guests use your exact words often, Paradise! I think the thing that really gets to the heart of it is the peace that is felt at the lodge. Since we don't have any background music, all you hear are the sounds of the birds and wildlife in the forest, the river flowing by and the boats leaving from...

This was my first introduction to Costa Rica and it could not have been better. We hired a car at the airport and drove the 3 and a half hours to La Pavona to get the boat to Tortuguero. The lodge offers their private boat for transfers for $20 per person each way but it leaves La Pavona at 11am...

Dear simon s, I loved your description of your adventure. Flying into San Jose, renting a car and driving directly to La Pavona is an adventure! It sounds like you were a perfect fit for the lodge and that you took full advantage of everything there is to do in Tortuguero. If you're into nature and wildlife, the lowland tropical...

This Hotel is unique. For us it was one of the best we have stayed! It is really included in nature, but with all the facilities we need for a unforgetable stay! The restaurant is really nice, with a fantastic view t the river and the food is so yammy! We just loved everything.

Beautiful rooms, really recommend the rooms upstairs which have beautiful views and a large balcony, helpful staff, great trips, a wide variety of wildlife, and good food. I would strongly suggest suitable clothing for the rainforest as there are some many mosquitos. Cover up and much as possible, and walking boots.

This guest is right to recommend suitable clothing for the rain forest. You don't have to worry about mosquitoes while you are on the boat tours in Tortuguero National Park, we don't get many there. Where you do need to plan ahead for mosquitoes is on the trails. For hiking, it's best to wear longs pants and long sleeved shirts...

We arrived by boat – and received a brilliant introduction to the wildlife in the area from Angelo. Our accommodation was beautiful and very comfortable – no need for A/C – and the food delicious. We looked out every morning to see a green heron, a bare-necked tiger heron and a snowy egret perched just outside our window and next...

Dear glossopdales2016, You mentioned how much you enjoyed your introduction to the wildlife in the area with our Naturalist Guide Angelo Benley. Angelo was raised in the Town of Tortuguero by his grandparents, Don Alberto and Doña Ana Cristina. His grandfather grew plantains, cassava and coconuts. His grandmother worked at one of the lodges in Tortuguero as a cook. Angelo...

We finally went to the Tortuguero area, it was, sadly, a very short trip, but staying at the Tortuga Lodge & Gardens, made us feel so welcome. The experiences we had, watching the turtles hatch (thanks to very able guides), a walk in Town, lunch at Maria's Restaurant (downtown Tortuguero) the service and food at the hotel the ecofriendly rooms...

Dear BenjaminCostaRica, Thank you for the review – I’m glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Given Tortuga Lodge’s remote location, the number of ways to see the national park, and the simple fact that Tortuguero is a place unlike any other, we recommend spending 3 to 5 nights with us. But if 1 night is all you could give...

Romantic escape or a family vacation, this is the place to fall in love with Costa Rica's brand of hospitality, wilderness (DON'T MISS THE TURTLES, or toucans!), vista or food. The hotel is located on a lovely canal, (across from a tiny airport (maybe 3 flights a day)). The accommodations are wonderful... each room has a spacious balcony facing both...

Dear Yvonne V, Thanks for taking the time to write us such a lovely review. I am thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay. I also recommend the garden walks, they’re a great way to begin to get to know the Tortuguero environment, and maybe start your day with some good wildlife sightings. We had a terrific trip to the Tortuguero area and loved our stay at Tortuga Lodge. They hire terrific staff (Andres the server is one example). Tortuga Lodge was the highlight of our two week trip! Getting there: We drove from Central Valley to La Parvona, it took longer that Google suggested, we aimed for the 1:30pm boat which we found left at 1pm - apparently this can vary due to water levels so definitely leave plenty of time! Parking is $10 per day at La...
