Real luxury, perhaps different from a big five star hotel, but equally exclusive and unique. No glass windows at the bedrooms, just a mosquito screen, so you hear all the jungle noises and feel you are right in the middle of it. Lovely restaurant by the laguna. Menu is full of good intentions but lacks execution quality still. Still sitting...

Dear oaktable2015, I loved your observation: "Amazing service, exceptional combination of American like dedication and the overwhelming Costa Rican kindness. " The staff was really happy to read this review, they work hard to insure that guests get everything they need while at the lodge. Each bedroom is very spacious with views over the river at the front and the forest at the back. Being on the river there is a certain amount of noise due to the flat boats traffic, but one needs those boats to go and observe wildlife ! The small airport on the other side of the river can be very...

Dear Frogandco, I'm delighted to hear that you enjoyed your tours into Tortuguero National Park with Angelo, he is a fantastic guide. His experience is evident when you're in the park and he is finding creatures that you wouldn't even imagine are there. Thank you for mentioning him by name, I know he will be thrilled to hear how much...

We stayed for two nights at the Tortuga Lodge and Gardens. I was worried about the small plane ride, but the half hour was nothing to fear. We were met at the tiny airstrip and took a boat ride across the river to the lodge. After a quick check-in, we were escorted to their restaurant for lunch. With a beautiful...

Dear Mayla M, What a wonderful review, thank you for taking the time to share your experience here on Trip Advisor. You mentioned that the water had a "metallic" tastes, let me explain. Tap water at Tortuga Lodge is 100 percent potable. The water comes from a well. A state of the art purification system using filters and ultraviolet light...

My daughter & I stayed here for 3 days & 4 nights recently. The rooms were clean and spacious. There is no air conditioning but our room had a ceiling fan, oscillating fan, and plenty of screened windows to keep us cool. The pool is very relaxing & has a gazebo with numerous hammocks. The restaurant looks over the Tortuguero...

Dear MLH Texas, It sounds like you really enjoyed the free guides tours at 6am and 3pm and that you took the time to really explore the trails on our private reserve. WOW a Laughing Falcon devouring a coral snake, that is a real treat! I see that you stayed 4 nights, which I highly recommend, it gives you time...

This is a lovely hotel where service is the very best you could want. It is a place where everyone knows your name! My friend was having stomach problems and the head chef came to my table and asked if he could make her some chicken broth to take to the room. Tortuga Lodge does it right!

We had a 2 night/3 day package and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, while we consider it a 5 star experience, realize that: it can be hot and humid and there is no air conditioning (fans help, but not completely); there is no TV; it is isolated and one needs boat transport to get there; it can be noisy, both from...
